Demanding Schiff to resign in order to get a pat on the head, expect the same grandstanding on every committee.

What's hilarious about Republicans going after Schiff is they had a literal clown in Nunes running House Intel the last 2 years and didn't care. Dems on the committee should have been doing this

I feel like Obama should have attempted to use the courts to force a hearing on Garland.

Dems get a lot of unfair criticism about being "weak" even though they're out of power.

Combating that narrative might be accomplished through fighting when they have any avenue to do so.

Idk, just lunch thoughts while I wait on my food.

These poll question annoy the shit out of me. Where the hell were the “do you believe this is politically motivated” poll questions during Bengahzi and Buttery emails?

Erica Werner @ericawerner

Pelosi giving a rousing defense of Adam Schiff , calling him effective and patriotic — which she contrasts with the “irresponsible almost criminal behavior” of previous chairman (Nunes)

Adam Schiff is one of only four Democrats who the White House cannot deny access to any classified information.

Nunes said, discussing the committee: “We should not be used as a platform to spread false information and bizarre conspiracies.”

Remember: @GOPLeader still thinks it's appropriate to have a guy suing a fake cow have access to the country's most sensitive secrets.

He wants Schiff to go, not Nunes.

I wonder if Clinton would have just renominated Garland had she won.

The principle of the thing was that it should have been Obama's pick, lame duck or not.

But I also understand suddenly being in that position and wanting that choice for yourself.

Oh well. Fuck this country.

Maybe one or two questions annoy me, but I think overall those polls were very encouraging collectively. The polls indicate the majority of the public saw through Barr's antics even if the media was fooled for the first 24 hours. The majority of the public doesn't see Barr's letter as an instant vindication and think it's too soon to make final adjustments until we see the actual Mueller Report. I'm actually surprised the majority of the public got it right.

The majority of the public think almost anything that happens in government is politically motivated, so I'm not surprised by the last question. That question probably needed a follow-up such as "Who do you think is responsible for the start of the Russian investigation".

The NRA funding and Guliani-SDNY connection are the two unresolved threads out there I have no idea if they are even a thing anymore.

All of this keeps seeping out and the Tr*mp Administration is still trying to sell us on the total exoneration nothing happened here stuff?

Something fucking happened. Maybe it isn’t what we think. Maybe there’s a twist. Maybe there’s a missing link that ended the inquiry. But it isn’t “nothing”.

I think the key thing to remember about the Special Counsel investigation is that the summary only dealt with the tight guidelines, and not the "and anything else coming out of the investigation" bit.

I wouldn't wait for a silver bullet or anything, but the summary was very specific on what it was denying.

So the guy who said he thinks the president can't obstruct justice immediately concludes the president didn't obstruct justice.

Media: huge win for trump.

It's balls too because if people had just turned out in 2010 and 2014 just enough it wouldn't have been a problem.

Better turnout in 2010 would have saved IL, WI and PA Senate seats (all within five points). Not only that but we would have won the gubernatorial races in Ohio and Florida, giving us a leg up in redistricting, as well as possibly saving the state legislatures in Michigan and Wisconsin.

Probably doesn't save the House but it might have let us win it back in 2012 (less gerrymandering) and we'd have a more robust Senate majority (now just imagine if Dems also managed to swing AZ and NV in 2012, they'd be back up to 60!). Immigration reform and ENDA happen at a bare minimum, and there's probably a stronger push for gun control. Sequestration is canceled, Cruz's lame-ass shutdown never happens, Voting Rights Act can be restored. Maybe we get the ball rolling on a public option, new stimulus, cap and trade and Obama's education proposals (like debt-free junior college and free pre-K).

Then 2014 we probably lose the House, but it's not as bad and we could have saved the Senate majority just by hanging onto AK, CO and NC which again were all within 5 points. Garland replaces Scalia and the court majority flips. Bye Citizens United, bye gerrymandering.

And you know what, if Trump still wins in this timeline? Well that still sucks but we're significantly better off. For one thing the Senate stays D in this timeline, and is still 52-48 D majority. So the one thing he's been able to do effectively, court-packing, can no longer happen.

And all Democrats had to do was give two fucks about the midterm elections and not just figure "Obama's in charge, we good fam" and stay home.

Shapiro being able to curry favor specifically with the alt right while keeping an arm's length is literally the problem with this shit.

The media is so desperate to give wins to Trump.

He's still gonna hate on them though, I really don't understand it. They are like someone in an abusive relationship.

Very weak from Economist. I am sick of the double-standard that continues to play out in the media. People like Hannity, Carlson, and Ingraham tell outright lies and throw out all sorts of ridiculous labels for liberals and never ever apologize for it, but if you call someone like Shapiro "alt-right" they get OUTRAGED and demand that you apologize and retract. It's another example of how people on the right play by a different set of rules and it is long past time that people recognize this and quit letting themselves be played.

Yeah, Shapiro is the shit-posting troll who's "just asking questions" disingenuously, and these "respected" media outlets fail to see it.

They need to learn that Alt-right voices critique the Alt-right while espousing alt-right rhetoric. You critique so the rhetoric goes down smooth.

Damn he’s so weak. Boehner was an asshole often but atleast he had balls to stand up to his own. McCarthy is worse than Ryan and Ryan was way worse than Boehner.

Lol at the AOC part of the Shapiro interview.

The Economist: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez?

Mr Shapiro: I don’t think Ocasio-Cortez has any national appeal. I think that she’s very appealing to the media. I think she’s very appealing to a small base of very radical left-wingers. But she does encompass exactly what the media are looking for, which is a person who is quite attractive in her presentation, who looks like she’s having fun—which is half the battle—with her Instagram stuff, and who is also deeply radical, and boils down complex arguments to bumper stickers, like ‘em or hate ‘em.

The Economist: Do you respect her?

Mr Shapiro: In what sense?

The Economist: Politically.

Mr Shapiro: No. I don’t respect her politics. I don’t respect her intellectual command of the issues. I respect that she’s been able to command enormous amounts of media attention. But no, I think that she’s a bad expositor of her own values.

Shapiro says she doesn't has national appeal so I'm going with she does.

As for the health care thing, "protecting pre-existing conditions" to GOP means having a much more expensive plan. That's exactly how they explained it in 2018. The general public is absolutely not going to fall for that.
