Biden going down is not an inevitability whatsoever and you are going to be in for a world of shock if you don't open yourself up to acknowledging that Biden weathering storms and still remaining the frontrunner a year from now is a real possibility. The field being splintered is going to make it hard for a candidate to gain traction in ways that are really bad for their chances.

Don't be the Sanders people from 2016 who chose to ignore the implications of South Carolina and national polling that showed Sanders dead in the water, or 2016 Pundit Hat Nate re: Trump.
You misunderstand. I'm quite worried people will dismiss everything they dislike about him as not mattering because it doesn't matter to the conservative next door. Biden winning is inevitable in that case.

I would be surprised if Biden makes it through the primary completely avoiding being made to look stupid and out of touch with a statement even Boomer CNN watchers would be troubled by.

The biggest reason people are going for Biden is because they are going small-c conservative after Hillary lost.

That is going to be hard to overcome. It's possible, but it's hard when people's primary goal is getting rid of Trump at all costs.

I do find it funny how many posters mention poliera in that Politico Antisemetism thread despite some of us condemning Politco.

Nice to know we live rentfree in their heads.

I haven't seen a single post in here defending the Politico tweet in any way. It's an awful tweet, so I'm not sure why some posters are convinced the people in here wouldn't condemn it.

Almost a month from now we'll finally have our first Democratic debates. I want to see Biden dragged.

PoliEra meta potshots are so baked in that I barely notice them most of the time.
I type as I partake in meta-commentary

Some are only interested in using "Identity Politics" as a vector of attack because they fundamentally don't care about those issues and believe everyone else is really as insincere as they are. This attitude isn't restricted only to people nominally on the right.

The legislative branch abdicated its role when it passed the AUMF after 9/11.

The AUMF was a a massive victory for bin Laden. His plan worked.
AUMF is fucking horrible, but congress abdicated that role waaaaaay before that.
They made some noises that might maybe get serious about that shit toward the end of the Vietnam war but that didn't last long, at all.

Beto O'Rourke refuses to apologize for opposing war with Iran:

It's a good thing Bernie's outspoken; I'm just not sure who asked Sanders to apologize for something so obvious.

Why does the average American have such a poor understanding of constitutional freedom of speech? Given the importance of the constitution, does it actually get much coverage in the educational curriculum?

A good rule of thumb is anyone who thumps their chest about the Constitution (or the Bible, for that matter) is using them as a shield from criticism. Falling back on "What I'm saying or doing isn't technically illegal" is one of the weakest defenses there is. For those people who go on about the Sanctitiy of the Constitution and the Sacred and Pure Intent of the Founding Fathers, you'll find after the first and second amendment they kind of stop paying attention.

If this is a center-right (or European right) board, and we're moderate darlings, then that means we're to the left. Checkmate, or something.

Is this the moderate safe space or what?
No, it's full of pretty progressive people who want to ensure that everyone is equally protected under the law and has a decent standard of living, but who are sensible enough to acknowledge electoral and political obstacles and recognize when something won't work or will be difficult. To ignorant people who just started following politics maybe in 2010 at the earliest, haven't done their homework, and think that Democrats could make magical progressive things happen but just haven't because they're corrupt centrists, such an attitude reads as "They're just spineless establishment shills who hate the ~~~true progressives~~~/They don't want better things."

He's slipping with the nicknames. "Swampman" sounds kind of cool, like somewhere between Swamp Thing and the Toxic Avenger.

I really don't understand the people who say "A war with Iran will guarantee Trump 2020"

Like, the global economy at best would enter into a recession, at worst it would cause an oil crisis as prices spike to catastrophic levels if Iran decides to scorch Earth the region and make oil production grind to a halt and make it impossible to export.

That's not even going into the actual war part that would have zero credible back up to why we invaded Iran with US sailors floating in the ocean and body bags coming home by the hundreds within the first month or so.

I can't think of a more catastrophic blunder than a war with Iran, both for Trump and the US at large.

I know some people really enjoy wallowing in defeatism, but maybe use that critical thinking thing you constantly laugh at republicans/conservatives for not having?

North Korea is a rational actor.

It is until it isn't. That's the problem with nuclear proliferation or "law-abiding gun owners." Maybe Kim Jong-un has a really bad day, one day. Maybe Trump finds out he's boned from NY state charges that he can't lean on to get rid of and decides to take everything else with him.

Probably the closest thing to it on Era, though I imagine most of the regulars here are pretty firmly left, just pragmatic.

Funny thing is I'm a dues-paying member of Democratic Socialists of America (though they're heavily DC-based and it's less convenient to participate in their activities from NoVA). My only heterodox viewpoint from the far left is that I believe investors should get a share and that having everything be 100% worker or state owned would not work out (small businesses should have the current arrangement, medium businesses 50/50 investor/worker owned, public traded corporations 1/3rd each owned by the government, workers, and investors), but aside from that I'm about as lefty as it can be.

North Korea developed nukes for two reasons.

To deter anyone from invading them and to create the ultimate bargaining chip to become a legitimate international player down the road (which I thought they were going to cash in with Trump but it looks like they are just gonna keep going down the current path)

Kim isn't going to lob a nuke for no reason, the entire point of the nuclear program is to ensure North Koreas existence from outside forces.
