Bevin got the state legislature to agree in the waning hours of their 2017 annual session to make a $15 million equity investment in the Braidy project.

"That's skin in the game, and that means the state is behind you," Bouchard said.

Flood said lawmakers were informed of the governor's proposal at 9 one night as they raced to meet a midnight deadline. She said lawmakers were told only that the appropriation was needed to create jobs in hard-hit Appalachia, but not how the money would be invested. The bill passed unanimously.

Bevin, who in his bid for reelection is blasting Democrats as socialists, has fielded criticism that he steered the government to buy stock in a private company.
The governor says he needs $15m and won't tell us details. Let's blindly approve it!

Has any candidate taking issue with Drug Prices?

Joe Biden's fix is kinda shit when you have a "independent" board reviewing the value of the drug. We have stack everything in the US like the DOJ and SCOTUS.

Biden and Harris both have reasonable, relatively aggressive and progressive plans towards drug prices. You should put away your crackers when you don't really know the domain.

As far as I'm aware Sanders has not properly outlined a plan but had a bill last year to allow HHS to negotiate drug prices and import drugs (which are part of both Harris and Biden's plans).

Warren hasn't got a plan either as far as I'm aware. But had a random bill last year to have a Federal generic manufacturer.

To expand on this in the more theoretical, the general arguments for federal manufacturing of drugs is a way to merge public and private policy.

Contrary to some opinions and in defiance of some really shitty isolated cases, generally pharma doesn't make a lot of money on vaccines, antibiotics, etc. The resulting consequences are twofold - 1) some very necessary drugs end up with insane markups by shadier groups (thus your Martin Shkrelis), and 2) it incentivizes pharma companies to invest in lifestyle drugs ala erectile dysfunction and balding meds, which aren't a bad thing on their own are so lucrative they drown more necessary funding out.

Thus, a theoretical federal manufacturer could supply drugs that aren't profitable and thus fulfill a market gap while also allowing the private sector to do what it does.

Of course, a huge element that could help this immensely is also direct federal research into better antibiotics, antivirals, vaccines, etc that could be government-owned and manufactured at a loss, propped up by taxes.

In theory, this could mean exceedingly cheap insulin, flu shots, etc.

But is Biden going to do something if lobbyist decide to put money on these board members? All I hear from Kamala is they have to play by their rule which isn't threatening for billionaires.

Lol if you're not going to actually read anything posted I'm not going to respond further to you.

It's the same thing I read on Biden's site. Again, what is Biden going to do with lobbyist in the health care and big pharma industry? Because Biden's campaign aid is a lobbyist in the health insurance industry and that should be a red flag.

I don't know what relevance any of that has to Biden's plan, which is not exceedingly dissimilar to Sanders' bill, which allows HHS to directly negotiate prices, import drugs if cheaper, and will price set including using the average price in other countries for existing drugs. You cannot peg the price of drugs to external markets if they do not have access to those markets.

Independent advisory review is how multiple countries with functional government pharmaceutical reimbursement payor and reimbursement schemes determine cost effectiveness for new medicines and whether they should be covered and by how much. Central price negotiation is also how countries permit domestic registration.

Harris plan includes wanting the Federal government to be able to cense intellectual property to license out to produce low cost competition, tax profits above a set price at 100%. Both of which goes beyond what both Biden's plan and Sanders' bill do.

So again, either read or not. But I won't bother responding again if the latter.

Article on CNBC says recession following yield curve inversion an average of 22 months later. Could go either way. Sigh.

Recession is two quarters of negative GDP growth. We'll likely notice months before a technical recession is declared that things aren't right - PMI drops, stick indices stagnate, job openings drop

Basically all of Europe right now

Bring on the recession. People are still poor anyway and this admin is doing nothing to help or prepare. Our new normal "good economy" is such a joke anyway. I guess it's nice when your team takes credit for it, but we're talking about shitty jobs with high turnover and bad wages and benefits, little to no advancement, many people working 2-3 jobs just to not live with their parents/other relatives or on the street.

I don't know about bringing on a recession when the people who will be most hurt by it are living on those transient jobs with a President unwilling to support social safety nets to limit human suffering. I also don't have confidence in him enacting policy to fight the recession in a smart way if it drags on.

The Dem president will get blamed for the recession that happened 4+ months before they took office and 2022 will be a Democrat bloodbath

I wouldn't be shocked if the recession doesn't hit until after the next election. Corporations will do everything to prop up the economy until a democrat gets in. Easy scapegoat.

Transient jobs are not a long term solution especially if you don't have much of a safety net to begin with. There's going to be another recession it's just a question of when.

You can't count on Trump to do anything to help anybody as he actively rips the country apart, same goes for his party. We are all a part of this national nightmare.

And in think Trump will force it, so Tyson will be happy. Selling dangerous food.

Yes. That is clearly the critique levelled at Sanders and his campaign staff when they unskew polls and make claims that good stories aren't written about him because the owner of a reputable newspaper also is the founder and major shareholder of a company he has been critical of. A common hatred of Jeff Bezos is the analogous factor.

Something something correlation does not equal causation.

But I read somewhere that Obama had MORE mass shootings under his watch than Trump!!!

On a more serious note, Trump is just a sympton of a much larger problem in the US, and the world, and his election was a catalyst that brought a lot more of it to the surface.
