Biden's support being so dependent on black voters is also extremely perilous when it comes to IA and Nh setting a narrative though.

Just asked @BenSasse how he squares his previous (intense) criticisms about Pres Trump in 2016 with accepting his endorsement for reelection, and he said, "I don't have anything for you right now."
Sounds about right.

We're going up against a cult who watches nothing but Fox News or reads whatever their dumbfuck brother-in-law who works at Jiffy Lube posts on Facebook. Ofc they're enthused, which makes it all the more harder.

just asking, could Trump pivot to supporting decriminalization of marijuana in the 2020 elections? if there are any chances, do they differ, for example, if he goes vs Biden or vs Bernie?

He doesn't drink alcohol so he's probably old school anti-drugs. He also likes to portray immigrants as drug dealers so it's unlikely no matter who he faces.

Trump allegedly hates drugs (IIRC his brother overdosed? or maybe it was alcoholism?) and has always been a "tough on crime" twit (well, not white collar crime like he and his buddies routinely engage in, you know, ones that get black people arrested). If he were to flip on marijuana it would be very surprising.

If you're asking about how well Biden and Sanders do against Trump, according to RCP's average, Biden polls 11.5% ahead of Trump while Sanders polls 7% ahead of Trump. It should be pointed out that polls this far out aren't necessarily reliable (Clinton was regularly polling at landslide numbers against Trump at this point in the 2016 campaign), but Biden has consistently polled the best against Trump of any candidate, probably since he still has good will from being Obama's Vice President and easily the most well-known.

nah i was asking in the sense that maybe if Biden was the Dem candidate, he could try to support this, but not if he ran against Bernie. idk, i just read about this

oh idk then. I doubt it would factor much into anything, Biden is going to get tarred and feathered as a socialist just as much as Sanders (it'd probably be a less effective attack, but they'll try anyway).

I don't think Trump has much room to credibly steal youth support from any Democrat, really.

Someone tangential (but for now unremovable) in my life believes that "elites drinking the blood of terrorized children as an immortality potion" madness. It seems to be indirectly inspired by the Dark Crystal and some throwaway line of Hunter S Thompson's, but has been given a recent boost by an episode of the Walking Dead (and Alex Jones). It's fucked up to have the craziest conspiracy theory people in your life.

I vaguely remembered that line in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, so of course I had to look it up...

[Raoul Duke's Samoan attorney is messing with a square Georgia cop, letting him know how bad things have gotten out west.]

"Hell, in Malibu alone, these goddamn Satan-worshippers kill six or eight people every day." He paused to sip his drink. "And all they want is the blood," he continued. "They'll take people right off the street if they have to." He nodded. "Hell, yes. Just the other day we had a case where they grabbed a girl right out of a McDonald's hamburger stand. She was a waitress. About sixteen years old . . . with a lot of people watching, too!" "What happened?" said our friend. "What did they do to her?" He seemed very agitated by what he was hearing. "Do?" said my attorney. "Jesus Christ man. They chopped her goddamn head off right there in the parking lot! Then they cut all kinds of holes in her and sucked out the blood."

Ya'll quoting that enthusiasm tweet should actually scroll up on the Twitter thread and read it.

Democratic enthusiasm being high and matching Republicans is a massive change from usual election dynamics.

Yep, and our base is larger, anyway. 47% of 100 is larger than 51% of 50!

If they're roughly equal, it's good.

Fucking hell

#BREAKING: #SCOTUS grants stay of both July 24 and September 9 injunctions against Trump administration rule barring asylum from those who didn't first apply in a "third country"; allows controversial policy to go into effect on a nationwide basis pending the government's appeal.

What a fucking atrocious policy fuck Trump, fuck Miller.

Why would we be enthusiastic. Dems are more scared than anything

I wouldn't have said yes to being enthusiastic if I was in that poll either. But I'm still going to run my shoes into the ground when the time comes
We also don't have a nominee to coalesce around. Trumpers know he'll be their guy.

There's less to be enthused about even if you know which candidate you're supporting, since it could very well be someone else.

Bernie's strength with Hispanic voters I can only assume is because they're a younger demo. Or they like nuclear waste.

Biden falling in 'beat Trump' I get. Why did Sanders fall too lol.

Also it's hilarious how the polls keep trolling Tulsi.

They talk about adrenochrome in the Fear and Loathing movie, too, hyping it as particularly intense if you get it from a fresh adrenal gland. It's a real chemical but not a real recreational drug. Apparently there's a scene in the Maze Runner movie that the freaks are also basing their belief in this fictional drug upon.

I do enjoy that people cried at Obama freeing up Iranian funds the US tied up for years, and Trump is literally about to give Iran a line of credit

Something something Pelosi shouldn't mention the whiplash foreign policy.

Trump wants to be able to brag about improving relations with Iran heading into 2020.

Which doesn't seem helpful. His base hates brown people especially from Iran, and most everyone not in the Fox bubble is aware this is just worse than what we had. This feels like a lot of his recent "reaches" for basically *any* success.
