Warren didn't need Bernie's fans to "see" anything.

She had more votes to gain from Biden and Pete but chose to get into a weird tif with Bernie and left them mostly alone. Outside of I guess a wine celler thing with Pete she had.

It makes no sense.

Biden and Pete are literal actual disasters and say a bunch of actual stupid racist shit on a daily basis. Biden has been such a dipshit on this campaign it's almost impossible to remember all of the ridiculous and offensive things he's said out loud in public

If you want to establish you are the progressive wing candidate best suited to get move the country forward in a progressive direction, then ignoring basically everything Biden has said and going after Bernie and actually no he's the sexist one and Hillary was totally right about him, isn't the best way to do that. Probably.

Republicans want to appear that they are representative of the country so they can keep winning elections. Unless they can install a mind-control ray, it's easier to just maintain your position democratically with propaganda than to become kings.

Labeling her progressive.
In case then yes I'd agree. But by that measure stick we could also slap Tulsi (*urk*) with the progressive label. Hell I'd tag Ed Marckey since its all relative based on what the centrist democrat is. (And right now its looking pretty yikes over on Impeachment).

Turns out there's a rainbow of people you consider progressives and I'd implore you do more than a quick look to understand what they want out of a candidate. For someone who's posted very often in the socialism OT I'm kind of surprised you'd think the DSA types would be so quick to hop on board with Warren.

I don't...which is why I said they have Bernie.

And Tulsi is not progressive. At all.

People are dumb and need to be spoon fed information. Warren polled the best after she was repeatedly dunking on Delaney at that debate saying "why would anyone want to run for president just to say what we can't do!"

and she needed to keep that energy up but didn't. Biden was right there for the taking and I don't get why she didn't even try to go after him. Bernie's also gone up after he's started the social security thing.

She's definitely a member of the progressive caucus. Now if you want to argue that she has lately, especially in the last two years, been a bit two faced about how she's gone about things I would agree. I wouldn't remotely trust her and if I were in her district would probably be campaigning to get her primaried.

Progressive is a definition of stances and principles as opposed to the reality show cock and bull of yore. Warren is definitely progressive.

She literally went on Fox News and yelled about Obama not using the words "radical islamic extremism" while he was president. Super progressive that one.

The polling being increasingly in favor of witnesses has to be making the calculus of the GOP in the Senate really hard.

I don't think they want a king. They just want to win. Nothing else matters but winning. They are not even trying to win so that they can achieve some policy goal! They just want to win so they can keep winning.

The whole thing is so incredibly nihilistic. There's no greater vision or purpose to their effort. No plan to lead. Just win.
These are not mutually exclusive ideas. I honestly believe that the Republicans today are authoritarian monarchist/totalitarianists. In the history of democratic governments, there is a history of legislative bodies voting to dissolve themselves because they want to turn power over to a despot that they have built a cult of personality around.

Today was that scary to me.

The weirdest things is that shit doesn't show up in her votes. In the 113th and 116th she's voted more often with the party line than not. (And in the 116th a third of them are her impeachment present votes which is yiiiiiiiiiikes).

I imagine she's got a future in OANN or Fox News after this though. She's definitely pivoted towards that side and has pissed off most progressive shows I care to listen to.

It feels weird that Obama doesn't just pick whoever he wants to be the nominee.

If he endorsed someone, they would definitely win but he... isn't.

I mean, it's fine that he's not endorsing anyone, but it feels weird that he's a politician with a massive amount of power choosing to use none of it?

If you believe strongly in the process, you should bite your tongue if you have that much power. Obama seemingly believes in the process and the country.

The French 3rd Republic's legislature happily dissolved the republic and inserted an 84 year old Philippe Petain to explicitly be a dictator with absolute authority. Age is just a number when the cult of personality exists.

Quiz: When was the last time a former President endorsed a candidate during a primary?

Feel like Bill Clinton and George HW Bush and George W Bush and Ronald Reagan had some pretty obvious people to endorse in the primaries.

Not sure if Bill Clinton's endorsement of Hillary Clinton in 2008 or 2016 needed to be official, lol.

George W Bush endorsed Jeb in the primary in 2016 and it... it was not very relevant. Probably would have not helped in 2008 or 2012.

Addendum.

When did a relevant former President, without obvious connections to a spouse or child, publicly endorse a candidate during a primary?

Alright time for Poliera's #1 Favorite Dirty Hobo Leftist's pre-post mordem on Liz Warren's Campaign.

She positioned herself as the compromise candidate between a dude running as "A return to the Obama Era and the Spacer's Choice of beating Trump" and a dude that reset political discourse in 2016 by going full(1/10th) commie. The only way being a compromise candidate works is if you have the charisma and presentation to convince people that she was going to both "go left" and "beat Trump (grab those pesky Obama>Trump voters)"

Her policies were pretty damn good. Her left leaning technocrat approach looks great on paper. If Bernie wasn't in the race, she'd make for an easy choice for the left. Her lack of appeal to the outsider loving non-voter crowd would have hurt, but she likely could make it up with "progressive curious" centrists. The problem is that she's being compared to Sanders who has an unwavering vision on health care among other things.

Her appeal to the Biden crowd however is very... eh? Her schtick seems to really work with middle class+ and educated voters, but peters off after that. That M4A wobble didn't help either. It scared off the "how are you gonna pay for it?!?!?" crowd and she was never able to pick them back up. That's the danger of being a compromise candidate, the two sides you're bringing together have polar opposite ideas. The tightrope walk you have to walk it extremely difficult and full of vagaries and using charisma to reassure both sides. Look at Obama if you want to see a good example of how to win both sides.

And finally, the actually important voter block of "undecideds". She still kinda has a chance here, but she needs SOMETHING to happen. Bernie's been picking up a large percentage of these people through unexplained means. Maybe it's the grassroots canvasing, maybe it's his persona, maybe its the general excitement he can produce. Whatever it is, Warren doesn't seem to have it and she needs to capture it RIGHT FUCKING NOW if she wants to win. Anyway that's my thoughts on it.

Now watch me look like an asshole when she wins Iowa.

I think it's crazy that mister 30 years in Congress somehow has a more "outsider" cred than someone who's only been in government for 8 years

It's a perception game. I'm not gonna argue who is and isn't outsider because I don't think I'd convince you. But people sure believe it (probably because there's a lot of truth to it).

What is so attractive about an outsider that is actually just an ineffective insider?
People don't see him as an ineffective insider, and a lot of people really really hate congress, the federal government, and DC as a whole due to corruption and their inability to get things done. An outsider appeals to those people
