This may be the last thing I expected to see in my news feed today but perhaps the most welcome.

Really hope the pressure stays on throughout Blizzcon

I thought that it was finally dying down but Blizzards is back on the spotlight. Hope it keeps going until BlizzCon.

This is one of the most telling pieces of news I've read in a very long time.

It basically isn't debatable that Blizzard is scum in this situation. When politicians are chiming in on a gaming news story and both sides of the aisle are in agreement, you done fucked up.

Good, we need to keep pressuring them and keep them in the news cycle. Activision-Blizzard allied with China, and now they need to face the consequences.

This is why I said in the NBA thread that Adam Silver offered to just tell China to fuck off rather than disciplining or fining Daryl Morey. Nothing good can come from getting the attention of congress. Also, it's really bizarre that coming down hard on China is the one thing that both sides of the aisle agree on.

Damn. I'd surprised if they don't delay or outright cancel BlizzCon at this point.
Some people keep saying it's impossible for them to cancel Blizzcon, but I really don't think it is. It's going to suck for Blizzard regardless of if they do or don't (which is their fault, of course), but trying to continue on as if this never happened is clearly not going to go the way they want it to. They need to cancel the convention so their devs don't face the brunt of the criticism in-person, delay the announcements they had planned, and actually take meaningful steps to course-correct this whole thing. It's the only good thing I can see for them.

It's not just that 2 GOP agreed, they agreed with folks they hate. They were just mad this week at AOC for getting a hair cut, that is how petty they are

Adam played the best hand he could, sure they lose china money in the short term. But everyone in the NBA is still making crazy money and China already looks like they are coming back.

Nothing is impossible, it's what they are willing to pay. They going to get bad press either way.

The timing of this sucks for ol' Bobby. Hounds at the door and his usual island getaway a no go zone.

Yup, exactly. I just think the route of canceling Blizzcon is the one with slightly less bad press in the long run. But, we'll see if corporate Blizzard agrees.

Love that people aren't letting up on Blizzard. We need to see this more often.

Looking forward to Blizzcon.

I don't think Blizzard fans will do anything at Blizzcon. I know there's this idea that they'll riot or whatever, but I don't think anything will happen.

I don't think they'll riot, and I hope they don't. The worst thing that could happen is someone getting hurt. But unrest? Protest? Disrupting presentations and using Q&A sessions to voice dissent?

Yes please. And I think we'll see something.

I think it's more likely there are protests outside the event, and probably some of the people who have tickets will wear some Pro Hong Kong attire and maybe try to hijack the Q&A if possible.

Lmao.

On another note, it would be tough playing any Blizzard game's campaign and not be ripped straight out of your immersion when you read/hear dialogue like the above that so clearly goes against Blizzard's number one priority. There is no iota of heroism to be found within (the upper echelon of) Blizzard.

im hoping this isn't the case.

I predict there will be twice as many attendees acting surprised and frustrated by protesters because "godDAYUUUMN, let's just talk about video gaaaames, who cares?"

Thankfully, they won't be half as loud nor nearly as interesting for ongoing press coverage. Got em.

Does anyone think we might actually see a full reversal of these bans and punishments at BlizzCon? (To thunderous applause)

I don't get this. Just last year we've seen how easily upset people get and for many fans it hurts just the more that the company they were and still are so invested in turned to shit.

The below summation does not reflect the opinions of all politicians, nor does it reflect all members of resetera's opinions. It's just my interpretation of hypocrisy:

Politicians - "Video Games are causing mass shootings, publishers need to be held accountable as they are profiting on Violent video games"

Resetera - "Thats ridiculous, the government has no right to tell publishers what to do. Freedom of speech, commerce, etc."

—————————————————————————-

Politicians - "Video Game Publishers have no right to run their business to ensure profitability and we are going to tell them how they should engage their business practices when we don't like what they do."

Resetera - "Damn right you tell them publishers how they should run their business and make money."

I can absolutely imagine a suit thinking that's a good idea, but if it were to happen, I would hope that every single person in attendance would boo them. They shouldn't be applauded for fixing something they shouldn't have done to begin with.
