It's just perfect that this record is owned by Trump. The worst president in modern US history keeps piling up terrible records.
The longer the shutdown gets, the less resources for security the country will have. The shutdown, spurred by a manufactured security crisis, may end up causing an ACTUAL security crisis.
Trump most likely thinks of this as another notch on his bedpost. He's the president that had the longest shutdown.

I think I know how this is going to end:
Trump declares a state of emergency, The House declares that there is none. By law the Senate has to vote on that within 18 days, and there will be a court challenge. Trump loses at least one of those , probably both (or McConnell refuses to hold a vote and is sued on that and loses at the SC, then loses the vote).
Government opens in the interim, Trump complains about traitors stopping him from building the wall, his base buys his argument whereas Trump hopes low-information voters forget about this in 18 months time.

This is what you get for letting outside forcess meddle in the US decision making. Trump as a president will be looked at in history as a prime example of how a nation could be easily manipulated.
Honestly its all on Mitch now. Trump can veto whatever he wants, and Congress can override his veto. However, Mitch won't let any bills go on the floor to vote and no Republican has the backbone to do anything about it.
Imagine 5 years ago someone told you that Donald Trump would be presiding over the longest shutdown in US history whilst simultaneously the UK was preparing to exit the EU without an agreement.
Somehow I think Trump is actually kind of proud of having made a historical mark. However bad it might be.
