Mod Edit: As a reminder: Defending the sexualization of minors is against our guidelines as laid out in the FAQ. It will get you banned. Please do not do this. Thanks.
So somebody shared this in one of my Discords, and it seemed odd. Apparently certain developers are being told to censor sexual content in their games within a month, or the games will be removed from the store.

So far, this seems to include a game by the Nekopara developers:

And the developers of Huniepop:

Likely other developers too. Weird for Valve to be cracking down on sexual content after so long.

What's the sexual content in their games like?

Like is that Conan game getting a similar warning?

So they're going to tell CD Projekt Red and Rockstar to remove sexual content too? Conan and Rust for nudity? Or they're only going after indie devs? I love Valve but I really don't like this move. And I'm not even interested in Huniepop. I just hate double standards.

Mutiny!! devs as well. Apparently their publisher personally visited Valve and cleared the game with them. Pretty shitty on Valve's part here.

"We've already got 95% of the money we'll ever get from your game so now it's time for us to look like we're taking a stand and curating our store by demanding you update it or we'll take it down"

Valve was inconsistent with their own policies on sexual content, I'm guessing this is finally placing firm rules in place???

Of course they wont go after GTA or Witcher. Valve would never take a stand against a real publisher.

I'm not a fan of large "voluptuous" breasts, but I find this video super relevant right now.

I'm pretty sure even my own avatar could be considered sexualization and "objective", whatever that word actually means.
I think it's pretty clear what my stance on the sex vs. violence debate is.

I don't see why anyone would be okay with this. It gives Valve the option to be selective about what sexual content they accept, and what they don't, which puts indies in a shit spot while letting the big AAA studios stroll right through the censor.

The level of ultra violence we accept in games and yet shit like this happens... Valve is taking an L.

Lemme guess: They won't say anything about ultraviolent and gore content.

They won't touch big publishers, either

No way something like the Witcher is going to get the axe.

This is really, dumb. If you're going to do something like this, at the bare minimum apply the rules consistently.

Aren't some of these literally just VR porn games? Bit different to GTA or the Witcher

I wonder if Plants vs Zombies will be pulled:

Edit: People really shouldn't call this censorship though. It's Valve's house, Valve's rules, they're not doing anything to prevent developers from releasing their games elsewhere unedited. It's pretty standard practice for stores to have polices/requirements for items they sell. I don't agree with this decision, but I am kind of surprised that Valve haven't had explicitly stated policies for this kind of thing up until now.

I cannot see how this can be consistently applied unless they action the bigger games as well. My guess is, this policy will fall apart sooner rather than later.

If it's just anime games where you have suggestive images of extremely young looking people then I don't mind.

I say this because I looked at the linked game in the first page, it's basically softcore pornography.

Hopefully cinematic games are unaffected, there's something more to how they use nudity.

Yes. There is a big difference between literal porn games and games with pornographic elements.
Steam has been extremely liberal with allowing almost anything in the store, looks like that's changing now. PSN/XBL/Origin, etc all have witcher and GTA, but doesn't allow porn games.

We can play games where we can murder people, blow their heads off etc. but sexual themes in a game is too much? There are 7 billion people on this planet because of sexual themes. Get a grip of yourselves, put an age rating on it and let people play whatever the fuck they want.

I don't understand why so many people feel the need to censor sexual content but have no problem with extreme violence. It's worse to have sex than it is to kill someone, apparantly.

I'm a Roman historian and the Romans were far less prude than us regarding sexual content, it's ridiculous. Visit Pompeii and you'll understand what I'm talking about.

I genuinely can't believe we're this backwards in the 21st century.

That's bullshit. Blood, gore, murder and violence is fine, but sexual content? Oh no!

Doesn't Steam have age ratings/settings?

Rest in peace, Mafia 3.

(Actually, I'd be shocked if non-indies were affected in any way by this news.)

Honestly this is stupid on valves part. A lot of the Devs are saying they had assurances as long as they do their stupid patch thing they were safe. Suddenly 180. Idiotic

I am very much against this stance Steam is taking. I can't stand censorship. I personally have never purchased any games advertised for there nudity, but I firmly believe in the right of choice for those individuals who do want to purchase such games. Isn't the age verification and other rules implemented, including ratings, enough?

This tweet (the first guy) kinda of highlights a lot of the wailing and gnashing of teeth is kind of disingenuous from some of these developers. People assume your game is porny because you're tweeting like goblin labia man.

You can argue about like, that they shouldn't be so harsh on porny games in the first place, but stop putting yourself on your anime tittied cross and act like you're not doing what you're doing.
