Quote from the specific article:

"...But they also want to make it obvious that a game might contain sexual or violent content by getting developers to add cautionary descriptions."

An example Valve provided:

"Left 4 Dead 2 features intense violence, blood and gore (including decapitation or dismemberment of zombie-like creatures) and some strong language."

Obviously this is a nice solution for the mature/adult videogames, however it raised a serious question:

How much it would spoil the story/moments of a game?

Sure, games like L4D which focus mostly in their gameplay isn't a problem.
But how about story heavy games like some Visual Novels or Adventure games?
Yes, the developers can write down specific things which aren't heavily spoil the game, but again, spoilers, the developers must spoil something to be safe with Valves new policy.

You can warn your audience and still be vague about details. Saying that the game contains "sexual violence" isn't really spoiling anything and still gives the potential customer info that might help him/her decide whether to buy the game or not.

That's an acceptable level of spoilers. If a game contains violent or disturbing content then say so. They don't even have to go into any specifics.

Doki Doki Literature Club did this when it launched, and they didn't even have to at the the time it seems.

This feels like a forest for the trees sort of moment, no offense.

And if you're the type of person interested in a game, it isn't like it would be hard to avoid reading that part.

You can still warn the audience about content while not spoiling what it is. Or even if they do, it's still fairly easy to ignore when going onto a Steam page.

Ehh, if you're worried about spoilers, then just don't read that stuff?

Seems like that wouldn't be too difficult.

This one of them troll threads? Spoilers over content warnings can't be serious.

If anything allowing Devs to write these blurbs themselves means that they won't be written by someone unfamiliar with the games story/experience and accidentally spoil something.

I am the kind of person which I don't love seeing at all spoilers in a game even if they are minor.
Sure, you can say Don't read the warnings, but sometimes by instinct you do anyway.

And no, it is not a troll thread.

Sure, but what about games which are trying at some level to hidehide they are more gruesome from what they seems.
Many examples, but obviously are spoilers for these games.

A person has a right to not be subjected to violent or disturbing content without consent. Plot twists are nice, but not at an expense of somebody, who might not be psychologically prepared for that. Sudden violent rape in ohterwise happy go lucky visual novel with no warning is not going to be appreaciated by somebody who experienced sexual abuse themselves, as an example.
