That's not a good look, at all.
Crack the whip on a black hero? Valve what ru doing?
However unintentional, that's . . . unfortunate
Wow that's uhm
after all the colors they could've used, they used it for Black Cards? Uhm
could be worse but how did nobody notice this and think to rename the card at least
Wow that's... unfortunate.
Kinda funny in its absurdity? Like no one saw that? At all?
That's so blatant I have no idea how that got past anyone on the team.
That's pretty funny and I'm sure they'll change it when they get people complaining.
I understand the tonedeafness from Valve but if you think about it, the black hero is given the whip and they are cracking it, either to scare/motivate their neighbours -- which can be any colour -- or hurt them.
It's a black card hero though, not a dark-skinned hero. Still kind of a bad association.
No one who participated in the creation of this card saw an issue? Unforced error. Diversify your organizations.
Are you working too many hours?
But not nearly as funny (plus probably hopefully lacking in intention).
How did that not ring any bells for anyone?
How do people not catch these things?!?
Like I’m oblivious at times but even I can see the problem here.
Yeah that sounds like no one caught that.
You could literally fix this by renaming the card.
Whew Chile !!!!
While dissapointed at valve, I am not that surprised.
You telling me the weird libertarian internet company with the questionable moral compass was gamma get kinda a little racist at some point? No way!
Oh dear oh dear.
What idiot designed it?
I saw tidings of this happening during the PAX stream. Black Hero is also being taken out of context in both directions.
Let's see if libertarian Valve actually bothers to fix this, or if they'll think nothing's wrong with it.
How the hell do you not catch that?
How many people did that card have to go through to get approved... and no one caught it?
I doubt this was unintentional
I'll honestly be surpised if they don't change the name especially since it's just a digital card game. Not that surprised they missed the connotations though given how many cards there probably are.
Wow, yeh not sure how that got through, come on valve.
There is no way this is a coincidence...smh.
This is what Valve means with "Black hero"
This has nothing to do with skin color, at all
i came in here thinking "oh i bet it's just the name of the card and the whole situation is whatever"
how fucking wrong i was
The art from the card reminded me of the song from the old Hobbit movie:
Does help that my first thought to the thread title was:
How in the world did nobody catch that...
Heh, like there'd actually be a "Black Hero" class based on ethnicity—with a bunch of variations—in anything.
And they even posted it on their official account.
I guess people are brain dead when doing QA check.
Could be any color/element heroes, maybe change the card name....anything.
But, the fact that it can be interpreted the other way is a problem and we shouldn't be against Valve changing the card name.
hopefully now that it's been pointed out (how did it even make it this far??) they'll change it, and not double down
"As a design philosophy, we’ve done a lot of work to make it once you learn the game rules you can predict any card interaction."
It's just a coincidence, people are reading too much into this.
How did this get past?
