What a huge mistake by Disney

They are doubling down on stupidity.

James Gunn will be credited somehow for part 3...which makes the whole argument of not allowing him to direct just pointless.

Congrats alt-right.

Hope you come to terms with your childhood sexual abuse, James. Sorry you were used as a political pawn to try and ruin your career as an adult.

If only there was some magical way for Feige to attend the meeting remotely.

It's for the best, now this whole thing can die and everyone can move on.
Hope the sources are wrong about still using his script. Just get a new writer/director and a fresh take on the 3rd film.
It's what is needed.

Like, I can’t stress this enough. The ONLY way the “this wasn’t about the alt-right, this was about the principle” defense works is if Depp, Brolin, and Gunn’s script are all gone tomorrow. As is, there is literally no way to interpret it as anything other than a straight up gift to Cernovich with no genuine belief behind it.

The thing that bothers me is even if he is as awful as people are making him out to be, he sure isn't really getting any serious punishment. I mean I'm sure he's disappointed about not being able to direct the movie but dude's getting a bunch of money and a bunch of people want to hire him. It feels like the ones getting punished the most are the fans who may end up with a shittier Guardians 3 because of it. Not that I give enough of a shit, I'll see it anyway.

Placating the Alt-Right is never "for the best."

There's already been a bunch but none stick because everyone, besides Disney, knows their game and aren't taking the bait.
True, but this shows Disney will take the bait. How long before they try it with someone else under Disney's employ who speaks up about their dear leader?

Edit addition: Honestly if this whole thing wasn't started or involved the Alt-right at all I wouldn't even care. Like, yeah, it'd suck a guy changed and got punished because a company didn't do their research. But it wouldn't be an indicator of something worse to come. This is, however... unless Disney learns from this instance and for some bizarre reason think that sticking to their guns on the firing was necessary. But that'd be a weird ass thought process.

Edit 2: Like seriously, have you seen some of the shit Sarah Silverman has said in the name of comedy? Not just tweets, actual COMEDY ACTS. If she suddenly sticks her head out to mock Trump between now and November, what is Disney gonna do when the alt-right goes for her, pull Wreck-It Ralph 2 and recast Vanellope? And that's just one example...

He made shitty jokes a decade ago, that the alt-right, makes and laughs at on the the regular. Boo hoo look at the left being offended and all that.

Cernovich legit had to cheap edit shit out in fucking Paint to make Gunn looks like a pedo. This is pathetic on Disney's part.

Jokes from 10 years ago. Bad jokes yes. Tasteless. I can't stand by Gunn's tweets. But jokes from a fucking Troma director. You know damn well the right wouldn't eat their own over this. "Libtards gittin offinded!". Really disappointed.

Why would you want his script anywhere near the film if you believe he’s a pedophile?

The dude made jokes about diddling little kids. In this outrage era of twitters. Hard to hate on Disney with this one. Disney isn't our friend, especially after that shit TLJ.

If that's their line, considering their brand, It makes sense for them. They print money. Everyone will see Guardians, just like the next avengers movie. Sucks because the trumpets win, however libs still have a healthier record. I guess don't make comments about little boys and you will be ok moving forward. As clearly Disney is OK with people that have said some raunchy shit.

His comments did him in, I would have had a contract with them, that i get a nice payoff if they fire me for what I already told them.

Gunn isn't really a slippery slope. He kinda was a perfect storm.

This is absurd. Understanding Disney's decision and not being outraged does not equate to supporting Cernovich.
Mike Cernovich, uh, appreciates that fact that you support his faux outrage smear campaign to take down a director because he's anti-Trump? That better? No, I don't think it is.

Zero interest in GotG 3 now, so that's cool.

I'm not interested in an "ant man" level of passable, so they're gonna have to pull out the stops to make me care about following it up.

I wish the average audiences cared, but somehow I doubt it'll matter.

I guess I’m lost here. He tweeted out some real crazy shit, gets the axe as expected for said tweets and now the internet rallying behind him? Any reason why y’all doing this? I’m guessing they not bringing him back since it’s not like people ARENT gonna watch it.

What if it's about neither the alt-right or the principle? What if it's about an executive making a bad business decision because some people absolutely do not see a difference in political camps, have no moral investment in the actual issues, and seek only to react to outrage regardless of the source? Because that's what I think it is. People who defend Horn's decision on the internet saying it's about the principle are definitely wrong. But I don't think Horn himself really cares all that much. It's easy to get very emotional about all this stuff when you read about it online 24/7 and spend a lot of time on social media or following depressing political news. It's also very easy to be detached if you're a old retiring executive who spends time doing lots of other stuff other than paying attention to that stuff. What Horn sees are offensive things written by a guy attached to a big upcoming film they will be making. He decides to remove the guy. It's likely he doesn't know or care who started the entire ruckus, and when explained to him, he probably didn't see how it changes anything because he doesn't have a dog in the fight. He doesn't give a crap about Twitter harassment or bullying because that has nothing to do with his life.
