Minecraft creator Marcus “Notch” Persson, who sold the title to Microsoft or $2.5 billion in 2014, won’t be part of 10-year anniversary plans for the game because of his “comments and opinions,” Microsoft tells Variety.

“His comments and opinions do not reflect those of Microsoft or Mojang and are not representative of ‘Minecraft,” a Microsoft spokesperson told Variety.
Persson, once an involved member of the video game development community, has increasingly ostracized himself with his Twitter comments, including transphobic statements and comments about a “heterosexual pride day,” and that “it’s ok to be white.” Persson has about 3.7 million followers on Twitter.

Being a bigot is an opinion now?

Well, it's not welcome at Microsoft, so fuck Notch and he can cry into his bath of cash he got when he sold Mojang to them.

Big love to MS for not dodging or sugarcoating this. Get that guy and his gross opinions as far away from Minecraft as possible and don’t look back.

Good.

Keep the game away from this trash opinions and hate. Game is a family game so it shouldn't be tied to something like this.

"Comments and opinions" is an awfully whitewashed way of putting "blatant bigotry and calls for violence."
I don't really think that they're interested in a big public fight about this. Publicly noting that the guy who created the game is not welcome at an event like this is already a pretty damning indictment in and of itself without shedding more light on the specifics as to why.

This is the right call. Good on Microsoft.

I'm sure Notch is miserable and at this point he basically seems to be a bigoted basement-dweller who happens to be a billionaire. Just means a much bigger basement to rattle around in.

Talk about an understatement

I think saying he was excluded for having different opinions is an overly tame way of saying he’s a racist transphobe but I’m glad he’s not being celebrated

They should honor his name in credits , he is creator of game regardless of what MS thinks. They may not invite to events or things whatever who cares

And what does this have to do with the topic?

This is a thread about the anniversary celebration of Minecraft, so if you don't care, why are you here?

Saying he’s excluded for comments opinions is a clear way of saying he’s opinions are bullshit without dredging it all up again, the less we talk about him the better

I mean they're very clearly trying to completely distance themselves from him. Does it really matter when not only have they updated the game to patch out any mentions of him, but he's not even in the series' anniversary? I feel like those actions are much more telling than phrasing
