I had a vasectomy a couple years ago and was fine two days later. I followed all my doctors instructions and didn't lift anything, but I didn't have any pain or discomfort aside from some weird feeling if I moved too vigorously.

I had very little problems after mine, was back and up moving after 2 days besides some swelling. I have gotten two or so granulomas in the time since I've had it (5 years) and never had one before. They are very uncomfortable, suck and last a few days. Never had them before the vasectomy
I felt fine after a few days, I haven't really had much pain since. I've found that I've needed more support afterwards, like if it's a really hot day I'll get some dull pain if I'm wearing boxers so I'll switch it up to briefs and it feels better.
I got a local anesthetic for mine and the surgeon said "I'm going to numb it up really good. But if you feel anything you tell me right away and I'll give you more." I had like one twinge of pain the whole time and when I winced they shot me up with more of whatever it was.

Yeah, I was able to return to work in a week but I had a dull pain that very gradually went away for about 3 months.
Everyone has different healing times.
Actual procedure was grim, they had to stop to put another local anesthetic in because the first one wasn't working right and I could feel a lot, then I started feeling shit during it and almost fainted.
But recovery was fine. Drove myself home, then went to the rugby a few hours later (to watch, not play!)

Have your doctor check for epididimytis. I've now had that infection twice since my vasectomy.

Had it done a few years ago. On the way home we stopped at a couple stores - I think we were phone shopping. Boy did I regret it - my advise to anyone doing the procedure is listin to the doctors orders. For the OP, best I can recall I was fully healed in a week or two.
Was supposed to run a half marathon within 2 weeks of having it done and had to pull out. 3 weeks or so was the time it too to fully heal.
The proceedure itself though? Fuck that I'm not doing that again. Pulled a whitey and started sweating heavily when she started tugging on the tubes. It REALLY fucking hurt. The cut and soldering itself was fine but when she was clamping the pulling the tubes out, it was too much for me. The pain shot right up into my body.
Didn;t help that my pecker decided to shrink to the size of my thumb as soon as they put the big lamp on it.

Iced all day yesterday and slept 12 hours and feeling much better today. Visited the doctor who said everything looks good just need to take it easy and listen to my body.
I guess it is just going to take me a little longer than the average recovery which is fine. At least I know what is expected of me.
To anyone who has posted who is thinking about my procedure, note that no two stories are always the same as noted by this thread. With that said, I would suggest anyone considering having this done to be put under at a hospital facility to have it done rather than awake because Jesus Christ. I was happy to pay the extra $2000 ish for it.
Also please disregard the stigma around this procedure. You'll probably have friends and neighbors go 'ahh no biggie'. False, it's surgery. It is a big deal and i feel I've done myself a disservice for lining up my expectations per the anecdotes of others rather than consult with a professional about the realities of prolonged pain/recovery. On the same token, don't let my anecdote deter you from having this done if it's right for you.

My recovery definitely took longer than what was given to me on paper. Everything is good now. I would still do it again if I was sent back in time to that date.
Dude, as long as you don't choose to have it under general for some reason, it's really not a big deal

I had to wake up at 2AM and move a king size memory foam matress to the living room so we could get back to sleep. The strain from lifting caused swelling and bruising that took me down for a few days. And I was on a 24/7 dose of ibuprofen. Thankfully I didn't have to go back to the doc. Just rest and ice did the trick.

I recovered mostly within a week. Pretty much totally within 2 weeks in terms of the stitches dissolving and scabbing done with etc. Sounds like you may have an infection or something.
Which procedure did you get? There are multiple types, some more invasive than others. I was back to work after three days but I had the least invasive no scalpel kind.

It only took me about a week to recover but it took my friend a couple weeks. I'd be safe and go see your doctor, specifically the specialist if you can. Everyone heals different and are you 100% sure it's jock itch? Vasectomy makes a lot of people itch.
Glad you are feeling better OP. Cannot agree with the advise to be electively be put under though. Anesthesia has it's own inherit risks.

Had mine done about five and half years ago. My recovery went really well. I think I was back to normal within a week. The important thing to remember is that everyone is different. Your doctor has likely done hundreds or even thousands of these procedures and will give you the best advice.
I think mine was 5ish as well. I had the proc on a Friday morning and my wife kept the kids entirely out of my hair for 3 days. During that time, I laid in bed and beat Fallout 3 + all it's expansions. I never had acute pain, more like a dull ache like after you've had your nuts hit too hard.
OP: Something is not right. An ED or clinic visit might be in order if your doc pussyfoots around.
Has anyone had the version of the surgery without incisions? I had a consult and they doctor said I could go back to work the next day (he has really good reviews on yelp). He would make a single small hole to take care of business...

For sure. Litromine is ridding me of flake and red skin that was bleeding. I look a lot better since last Thursday and am just staying on top of that. Admittedly, I did that to myself by wearing the jock and tight boxer briefs over that.
That ache is going to be my next burden after my infection goes away. It sucks. Isn't painful but very annoying and makes me walk weird. Been icing and sleeping well.

Infection is gone and everything looks normal. Stitches are still intact and I do still have the full ache in groin area but it gets progressively better with each day and plenty of sleep.

Curious how did you arrange the appointment. Did you get a referral through your primary care doctor or go straight to them or what?
It depends on your country, I imagine. In Australia, specialist care or surgeries are gated behind General Practitioner (GP) referrals. In the US, on the other hand, people appear to contact specialists directly, or at least this is how it seems as a foreigner.
Dug up this thread to see if I was the only one. Everyone from the doctors to friends who have had it done made the procedure itself sound painless.
I have a fairly high tolerance for pain compared to most people I meet, and relative to other surgeries I've had, but holy hell did this hurt!!!
Pain was mind numbing and I was going white knuckle from clenching my hands. The pain felt like it was up inside my lower abdomen area more so than where they were cutting almost like horrible lower intestine gas pain if anyone has had it.
Surgery was 4 hours ago. Laying in bed now with an ice pack on my very swollen balls. There is a dull throbbing right now but it's mostly manageable and I have not taken my pain meds yet.
Will update as my recovery progresses.
That sucks, was almost painless for me (10 years ago, double incision).

Procedure was fine, but they did knock me out I didn't want to feel it, and good news medical students they filmed my operation so one day some lucky few get to see how it is done. Closing on our new house Monday so hope by then I'll be able to move around a bit easier.

It seems that you have been unlucky, but it's very unlikely you will have any long term problems with this. It's quite rare.
I had it done 6 years ago, for what it's worth I was back up and running in a couple of days. Slight ache but nothing too aggressive. Mind you, I did them slip whilst out on site a few days later and basically do the splits which....hurt. And there was the whole 'wank constantly to clear the tubes' which was deeply enlivened by spunking blood on one of the early ones.
Took longer than I though to get the all clear in the semen samples though, a couple of months and I've had pain/aching a few times over the last couple of years but it's never turned out to be an issue.

I had mine done last July. My wife had got pregnant about a month before and we knew it would be the last one. Because she was pregnant, I had put off doing the semen analysis until just last week since I we didn't have to worry about her getting pregnant. So I jerked in the cup and took the sample in and the next day my doctor called saying they're concerned. There were still some live sperm there, 10 months after the procedure. The fuck?

That sucks. After snipping mine, the doctor tied the tubes up singed the ends.
My recovery took a few week and occasionally get pain here and there (2.5 years out). Had a friend who was good to go after his, then got alot of pain out of no where. Another friend bruised all over his inner thighs. We're all good now but recovery seems varied for everyone... hang in there it'll get better.
Man that sucks. The best part of my vasectomy was when the doctor called me to tell me everything looked good. She said (these exact words) "All clear sir, you may fire when ready."
Sometimes the tubes can heal back together. It's rare, but it can happen. That's why they recommend getting the analysis done within 3 months of having the procedure done.
I just want to say that its absolutely wild the range of recovery stories for this type of surgery. Some people are back up after a weekend, others are totally immobilized for weeks! It seems crazy that there is such a huge disparity from person to person.
