Since yesterday, the government of my country (Venezuela) has block the access to Wikipedia due a group of people updating the Wiki profile of Juan Guaidó, elected president of the Venezuelan parliament. People update at leas 30 times within a few hours the profile of Guaidó after his statements saying that he was the "President of Venezuela" based on articles of the National Constitution. Of course his speech was made out of context, since the man in question never said that, saying that "he needed the help of the people, the military, and the international community in order to get rid of the Nicolas Maduro dictatorship", instead. Yesterday only 5 countries recognize his goverment, including Cuba, Rusia, Bolivia, and a Country called "South Ossetia", that only 5 countries in the world recognize it, including Venezuela.

At this exact moment, i myself cannot access Wikipedia. If you want my opinion on this regard, this is only another point in the long list of violation of the rights to stay communicated, that everybody in the world should had.

You can read more about Venezuela and this matter, here: https://www.caracaschronicles.com/2019/01/11/the-day-of-dictatorship/

Maduro is proof that even the most pathetic little men can bend a country to his will given the right circumstances.

And there goes Gleisi Hoffmann, head of the Brazilian Worker's Party, to show support for Maduro taking office in another one of her attempts to murder the rest of the Brazilian left.

So let me try to get this straight, since we don't get a lot of solid news about this (at least I feel like we don't) in Canada.

Maduro was re-elected president in an election widely seen as a sham/illegitimate, Guaidó was elected president of the National Assembly, Venezuela's (original) legislature.

Maduro, back in 2017, tried to disavow the legislature and created his own (who supports him) in order to rewrite the constitution of Venezuela in his favor, the National Assembly asserts that it's the real legislature and he couldn't do that, and since Maduro's presidency is illegitimate in their eyes, they would now be forming a provisional government to take control, which would make Guaidó president technically, but only once they have thrown out Maduro.

For the most part, the western world is behind Guaidó, and the usual suspects are behind Maduro.

Based on the list of "governments" recognizing his presidency I don't even know how to feel about the whole situation. That said banning Wikipedia is just stupid.

I hope the people of Venezuela can find away to get his head on a pike. Preferably in the most brutal and painful way possible. Venezuelans deserve far better than they've been given.

Our Left's "adoration" of dictators like Maduro is so fucking disgusting. It's one of the few things that the Right is right in attacking. Too bad people like Gleisi can't get her head out of her ass.

Let's not kid ourselves, stuff like that has been going on PT for over a decade.

Yeah. something like that. Thats a complicated topic. For now in this thread all that matters is that we people can't access Wikipedia for something as trivial as some people editing Guaidó profile to put him as president, something he didn't proclaime. And thats bad for us

Venezuelan government is so petty. I mean, blocking Wikipedia only for that?
Is there a way out for Venezuela?

How do democrat candidates see Venezuela? Do they criticise it? It's not really socialism isn't it?.

If you just want to visit wikipedia, using Tor is probably the best option considered it is free, however it is slower than VPNs, then you have a bunch of VPNs but which one you want will depend on what is your priority (price, privacy (And from who), speed and so on).

The way out is to run the hell out of this place. As easy as that

even if maduro died, Venezuela would probably become a militar dictatorship the next day.
it's a shit show, I really can't see a way to save the nation in the foreseeable future.

I forgot the user's name, but there was someone on here that made a thread of not having food and they were trying to get out. Did they ever make it out? I'm pretty sure it was Venezuela.

Well, i can't. No money, mother died 2 years because of medicines and i spended my money bury her. If you guys find venezuelans in your countries, help them.

My girlfriend's mother's friend is Venezuelan. And the friend's parents were able to get out. My girlfriend and I try to help out whenever we can. Especially since Venezuelans showed kindness and compassion to Colombians back in the 70s/80s.

I hope things get better for you and your country.
