I drove by a local church over the weekend and poor folk were huddled up for warmth just trying to survive under an awning out front and this man can blow cash on a extravagance unlike anything ever seen. How are people ok with this?

That's what their philanthropy is for. It obviously doesn't do all that much in the end.
It did do wonders for Alfred Nobel though.
There are let's say 552,830 homeless in America. Bezos could give each and every one of those homeless people $234,791.89 and still have 1 billion. A fraction of that cash distributed would still circle right back to Bezos.
Hes ridiculously and unjustifiably rich, but yeah the headline is wrong.
The impending climate men like this have engineered have all but guaranteed that this will happen. It won't surprise me if the billionaires who've bought large tracts in New Zealand and other "safe" places eventually get dragged out and executed by the locals once things go to shit.

Jeff Bezos does not make $131b (his net worth) in a year. It's kind of tough to calculate what he actually makes in a year because his net worth is all based on his ownership stake in his company, Amazon which is valuable partly because of his ownership stake in it. I'd imagine he doesn't take much regular pay from Amazon, and lives off of dividends, right? As a future billionaire I have to figure out how the payment model works.

He definitely works harder than me. I spent a non trivial amount of time today arguing about the character motivations of John Marston in a 10 year old videogame.
Bezos is paid about $80k in base salary. The rest is in stock vestments.
It sorta depends. Sometimes these mega properties just sit on the market for years.

Most of the time the business is wealthier than the person. It's not a pass...it's a realization that actually taxing businesses will do more than killing bezos.
With all that money he could've bought up a bunch of areas to set up as homeless shelters with doctors, job placement specialists, hired people to help run the places, along with free room & board and it still would've barely been 1% of his income. This is just greed for the sake of greed.

I'm not sure why both options are equally weighted but I do feel we can do both (tax individuals and corporations). Hell Eisenhower taxed rich individuals high after WW2.
While also disgusting, an entire corporation sitting on piles of cash is a bit (and I emphasize a bit) less disturbing than a singular person controlling so much wealth.
Honest question: why is Amazon not paying certain taxes always pointed out? The ones at fault is the politicians making the laws that allows Amazon to do this in the first place? Obviously there's lobbying so they are both to blame and now I feel dumb even asking.
Amazon stock itself doesn't pay a dividend, but he undoubtedly generates millions of dollars every calendar quarter from other dividend and interest-generating holdings. He's also virtually always liquidating his Amazon shares. You can find how much and when in publicly filled documents with the SEC. For example, this was what he did just this past week:

i understand luxury apartments and ranches, but this type of estate always seems kinda pointless. There's a limit to practicability.
I'm sorry but eat the fucking rich. This is insane. No human should be this wealthy when there are so many homeless people in America. He's just doing this to get richer, he's not going to ever live at all the properties he owns for a reasonable amount of time. Tax him at 99.9 goddam % and call it a day. Fix most of America's socioeconomic problems over night by taxing people like him.
Because while the politicians are useless, Amazon is the one taking advantage of it. Amazon is consistently doing things to get out of paying taxes while also taking advantage of providing service in these countries. You're using Trumpian language to defend this. Is that your intention?
Well obviously the size of the house needs to be proportional to the man. If Bezos were 90 feet tall, it wouldn't make sense for him to live on anything smaller than 9 acres.
Because of the vitriol towards bezos in this thread when the article also states how much his company saved in taxes on their profits.
Bezos wealth fluctuates with his company. 200 billion in cash is 200 BILLION dollars cash just sitting overseas not getting taxed at all.
I believe that amount of cash would do better than bezos owning stock.
Would you then pay the taxes and upkeep expenses on those 300k houses for all those people who didn't have the means to support themselves before but would somehow magically have their life fixed now?
Charity is a great thing, but statements like this aren't based in reality.
And to think, I saw a house the other day my wife and I determined it's so far out of our price range that I should consider getting a new job to hopefully one day afford it after lots of saving and good luck. She then chided me for my $11 Amazon purchase of a Dragon Ball Z figure.

Bezos is Amazon essentially. His wealth is related to Amazon. The company taking advantage of loopholes and Bezos doing so with his personal wealth is a distinction that I don't feel is meritous. Sure people are vitriolic towards him in this thread but check out a thread about Amazon's taxes and you'll see similar language around the company. It's just how the OP and article are stated.
