~3:00 - Vic addresses accusations of inappropriate touching, kissing.

"I've always been very demonstrative. Hug everyone. It's always been who I am...But here's what I've learned; just because a thousand people want a hug doesn't mean everybody does..."

"Over the years I got really lazy, and I got used to *hug gestures* being the same person all the time and I was insensitive to the fact that there could be people out there that don't want that. It has never been my intention to offend or hurt anyone...I like to think that the tens of thousands of people that I have met over the years that know that."

"But there are people who don't want that kind of interaction and I have not been sensitive to them. I see that."

"Here's the thing guys. Voice actors aren't any different than you are...how many of you would pray to god that somebody didn't follow you around every minute of the day with a camera and log everything dumb thing you ever did or say?"

"I am a work in progress just like you. And I have made some mistakes I regret...All my gestures of hugging somebody for photos or kissing somebody on the forehead or the cheek in my mind in that moment was a sign of kindness and appreciation and warmth. But it was wrong--it was really wrong of me to assume. So I am profoundly sorry to anyone out there that I offended. That was never my intention."

Vic goes on to address the crowd and acknowledges that everyone is different.

"I made the mistake of kind of painting with a broad brush...I am profoundly sorry for that. And I would like to ask anyone out there that I may have offended to accept my sincere apology and know that I have learned from my reflection during this time...that I need to alter the way I engage with you."

"It's difficult sometimes...when a hundred people come up and ask for a hug, you start to assume that the 101st one wants one too. You just get lazy, you get used to it."

"I'm just a dumb guy like you trying my best."

~9:40 - Vic addresses assault accusations. Denies any wrongdoing.

"Now I have to just say this...any kind of claims of assault *chuckles*...or molestation or abuse. No. My heart hurts for anyone who actually have been. And my heart hurts for anyone that feels that. I am mortified to think that I would have made somebody feel that way."

"In our current setting, you have to be more careful, right? And I'm just a dumb old man...When you get affirmation from so many people, you start to believe it...When 500 people walk up and tell you how much they love you...you start to believe that crap. And you start to assume that she liked me and they all liked me so she probably likes me too. No maybe not, right? Or she's diff--she deserves the respect of having her own...space and opinions. She may be different and that's where I really messed up."

The panel moderator calls for applause for Vic, tries to begin the Q&A to "lighten the mood". Vic continues.

~11:35 - Vic addresses fans about backlash they may have received when coming to his defense.

"I don't want you to be the subject of hatred and anger as well just because you're trying to stick up for someone. I don't want that for you. Thank you for those who have been kind and supportive...It really breaks my heart when I hear that somebody tried to speak words of positivity...and then those people get attacked because they're trying to be supportive. I don't want that for you. I don't want that for anybody."

"I can't even speak to why speak to why some people say the things they say. You guys probably have some ideas of your own about why some people say some things online and put stories out there. All I know is that I'm profoundly sorry. Profoundly sorry if any of my actions meant innocently offended anyone."

I could spend all day analyzing this from various standpoints but I'll try to be brief.

Here's what was covered:

Vic acknowledges that he was not sensitive to others' boundaries and that he neglected to ask permission to kiss/hug people. He apologizes and says it was out of the assumption that everyone would want such attention from him because that was his idea of the norm.

Vic denies any assault or molestation accusations. Rounds back to the assumption that it was the norm for everyone to love him.

Vic apologizes to his fans that may have been attacked for defending him.

Vic refers to the allegations against him as "stories" that "people tell on the internet."

Things Vic did not acknowledge in his speech:

Vic did not acknowledge giving his personal phone number to underage fans for private talks.

Vic did not acknowledge any alleged antisemitic or homophobic comments.

Vic did not make any commentary about Jessie Pridemore, Adam Sheehan, or Todd Haberkorn in the above video.

Vic did not discourage his fanbase from attacking others in his defense. He does say "I don't want that for anybody" but given the context, he's speaking to his fanbase and does not apply the same logic to those going against him.

Vic did not acknowledge the questionable conduct of his fanbase, who have been actively harassing/raiding those who have spoken out against him.

Vic did not acknowledge the use of fans (sometimes underage) as unpaid workers in his fan shop (of which he profits).

Tin Hat Time:

This is more of the same apology from before. Vic fails to acknowledge a lot of the more serious accusations he's facing and even laughs when he brings up the assault allegations.

The speech, given at a fan panel dedicated to him, is an apology to those who don't need one; his loyal fans. It's as big of a "I did nothing wrong" as anything. He's saying all this to a captive audience who were there expressly because they believe and support him. He might as well be saying all this to himself in a mirror (which he probably did before the panel). That, and if anyone were to stand up and question him about this, because it's a moderated panel they would have likely been escorted out via security. He had nothing to lose by giving this speech and his gain was reinforcing to his fans that he's "just a normal guy who makes mistakes" and not someone who uses his position of power to manipulate people.

He fails to acknowledge the more incredibly troubling allegations so I'm not taking it seriously.

nothing short of a full apology to everyone he's wronged and an acknowledgement of what a shitty ass person he's been would be acceptable...and i still wouldn't forgive him

Reading the comments it's like they think this completely absolves him when he doesn't address so many of the things still. But that's his fanclub I guess.

The watchmojo thing is probably a combo of #KickTodd being burdened by not only being less shared and having a bunch of different hashtags used to describe it, so it may have not reached them.

But. Uh. The subject matter considering everything is... HMMM... very unfortunate.

Neil Kaplan, another major voice actor, weighs in. Thread:

Yeah, mounting a guy you've never formally met after you come in late and cause a big interruption to the panel isn't a good look.

The difference between Neil's fan photo's and Vic's is almost like a joke. It's not bad if you're ok going along if the fan requests a hug for the photo or something but apparently his default setting is to be way too familiar.

Wow, that's great of Kaplan to speak up.

yeah vic needs to fucking go. Schemmel liking tweets calling Vic out is a quieter version of what Neil did, but it's understandable seeing as they're practically coworkers and if there's a fire coming, then Schemmel doesn't want to be caught in it.

God, vic is so disgusting.

I am hoping that this will be some of the very last appearances for Vic at conventions.

Update:
Recently cancelled Ancient City - so far only 3 dates this year.

Anime Matsuri is his next appearance - a lock there because of the CEO.

I'm wondering if Texas folks could force Anime Matsuri to shut down.

Seeing Neil Kaplan's tweet (I love him, such an underrated Optimus Prime), I wonder if any other prominent VAs that worked in Funi like Troy Baker or Laura Bailey would have anything to say about Vic if they even worked with him at all anyways.

NC/FL peeps, keep up the pressure on Supercon please.

Yea, think I'm gonna write an e-mail later, they really have nothing to lose by dropping him (especially Florida), why hold out in keeping him?

Both Laura and her husband have worked extensively with Vic on FMA alone. Also looks like Troy Baker worked with Vic on Tsubasa Chronicles. I think the people really big in the industry are keeping their traps shut. Both Troy and Laura have bigger things to deal with instead of catching fallout from this shit.

What stands out to me the most is how just divorced from reality people who defend Vic really are. Kaplan explains how he was not okay with how unprofessional Vic is, right down to telling a story about how Vic decided to mount him during a panel for shits and giggles, and you got Vic's Stans rushing to his defense accusing Kaplan of trying to make Vic look bad.

Fucking what?

Honestly I can't blame bigger names like Laura for not speaking out. It's a tightrope walk to deal with a known problem among even those in the industry but had to keep quiet due to shitty, conservative oversight. Like then, it was keep their livelihood or say something. Now they could speak, but it'd in turn make them look bad to some for not have saying something sooner who don't realize they didn't have a choice, which is really shitty.

It's heartening when people like that do speak out or support victims in smaller ways. Stephanie Sheh is a fairly prominent VA who's liked a few of the KickVic posts, and as a huge fan of hers who has had someone close to them affected by Vic it's nice to see that. And I know Monica Rial pretty much vocally (er, textually) supported Neil Kaplan after making a vaguer post about believing victims of harassment or sexual abuse in general.

Looks like Raleigh cancelled Vic, he's not listed on their website either.

Oh wow. I'd heard about the homophobic stuff like 10 years ago but haven't been into "the scene" in a long time. Oof this is awful
