The KH design for Cloud makes the Guts inspiration even more obvious.
You don't think the original is clearly based on her?Not that I think it looked much like Ellen Page even before, but they changed her look slightly.
A lot of the examples in this thread feel like reaching, whilst others (eg MGS cover) are more apt.
No, not outside of really vague similarities anyway. When I first saw the reveal, I didn't even think of Ellen Page.

FYI that's the trailer after they updated her face.

Oh snap. I never made that connection.
Holy crap, I never knew this. Hilarious. Do any more classic Doom enemies have similar inspiration? The classic Doom enemy Cacodemon is like cropped straight from the cover of the Dungeons & Dragons expansion book, Manual of the Planes.
Wow @ the policenauts one.
considering both Beyond Two Souls and Last of Us released around the same time and were both the same sort of "1.5/2ndparty playstation exclusive" for the playstation, I'm genuinely curious if any Sony execs thought the two protagonists were too similar?
Has any other videogame movie been so influential on its source material? Didn't they also make Kano Australian because of the movie's actor?
This thread is for very original video game character designs that definitely weren't nicked from anywhere else.
Here's a few I had in mind:
Jazz Jackrabbit and Bucky' O'Hare:
The Machine (Turrican series) and Galactus (Marvel comics):
Nemesis (Resident Evil series) and Chatterer (Hellraiser):
Helghast (Killzone) and Kerberos Panzer Cops (Jin Roh)
post more.

Christie has in poses copied from Britney Spears dances, Violet does Michael Jackson dances.
Both hilarious.Think the first version of Revenge of Shinobi has the most blatant in game rip offs.
Spider-man
Batman
Terminator
Godzilla
Well
I think this is actually the same designer/artist, isn't it? Though I guess the point still stands lol.
Sonic's a case of literal inspiration though, rather than virtually replicating a design. Even if that particular pose is modelled after characters like Felix.
...Of course Googling 'Felix the cat Sonic' produced results with images of Mickey Mouse giving birth to Sonic being delivered by Felix the Cat
Having recently gotten into the Anime and Manga, Yojiro Hanma (aka "Ogre") from the Grappler Baki series proves that Capcom plagarized the shit out of him with Akuma.
-Both have red hair
-Both are obsessed with fighting strong opponents
-Both "groom" the main character from their respective series to grow stronger so that one day they can have an epic battle against them
-Both have a "demon" motiff
-Both have a trademark pose where they show their back to the camera
-Both typically like to battle opponents to the death
-They even have similar moves, such as the dive kick
You could apply this to nearly every classic Street Fighter character. Capcom gave no shits and pretty much cribbed from all sorts of sources (JoJo, Battle Angel Alita, Fist of the North Star, Doomed Megopolis, etc).
Cammy.
I mean, does it count if they got the exact same character designer/artist for both?
I probably shouldn't dignify this with a response, but who are you suggesting is a rip-off of who?
Duke is probably one of the rare examples of characters who've had their personality ripped-off (in Duke's case from about a dozen 80's action movie characters) but not their design.
