There is literally zero good reason that doesn't come at the expense of people's lives to not have tighter gun control and take automatic weapons out of civilian hands. If this were a hunting rifle, many people could still be alive. Better yet, there could have simply been the absence of a gun. Disarming people is a major step towards disabling their capacity to do ill, and treating their illnesses is the other step. Half measures are not adequate when fucking children are dying.

The person who committed the crime has been blamed. They will serve out a punishment doled out by a judge and jury. This individual being "blamed" does not fix systemic problems or even remotely prevent new occurrences.

The person and the semi-automatic rifle he had easy access to are both to blame. These mass shootings don't will themselves into existence by the perpetrator. They have ample access to guns that shoot bullets and kill efficiently.
I do. I also blame those unwilling to do anything at all to decrease the likelihood and severity of more events like this. We've had 18 of these so far this year. Who is to blame for all the other ones we're gonna have?
