Watched about 15 seconds of that video before I had to close it, sounded like some of the most orchestrated over the top acting I've ever had to witness. Couldn't stand it.

Too bad it was already GOTY, because otherwise this would definitely make it GOTY.

Really excited for the rap dog to play this.

If it helps people express themselves without people bullying them for their appearance or their private life then why not?

It is especially good for women because they are the biggest targets for bullying.
Ngl it's 100% better. I don't care for them but I don't see what the issue is lmao

Trying to sound cutesey while using moe anime girls with animal ears as your persona has to attract a combination of dubious fans from both streaming and anime crowds. Not in general, but im waiting for the news to happen where someones been stalking them.

Actually the anime avatar is because female streamers tend to get harassed. It obfuscates their voice and their appearance.

That's cool, the vtuber presented on OP post was annoying though. I recommend, to those aren't fan, not to click them, I got tons of recommendation from youtube just by clicking 1 of these.

That's cool. She hasn't gotten around to playing Doom Eternal yet, yeah?
Speaking of which, I should probably give it a shot soon.

What am I watching... What?

A youtuber using facerig to hide their identity to stream.
Thus a Virtual youtuber, aka Vtuber.

There's a topic dedicated to the topic on this forum

Virtual Youtuber |OT| Let's fall in this rabbit hole... OT

Virtual Youtuber | OT | Vtuber Era Discord ▶ What are Virtual Youtubers? Virtual Youtubers, or Vtubers for short, are YouTubers or streamers that do their content under an avatar using mocap to translate their movements and expressions to their avatar. It started mainly in Japan, but quickly...

It definitely will attract weirdos but I don't see why these women shouldn't do this. That problem can only be fixed when Japanese society accepts mental illness as a natural thing and creates institutions to treat people.

I guess there's an argument about corporations exploit mental illness and loneliness in young men helping to create these incel neckbeard NEET types. But that's not the fault of the streamers, that's the fault of the suits who care more about cashing in then effecting positive societal change.

Oh no. I know what Vtubers are. I just don't get why everyone knows who she is and how she's relevant enough to get such a (relatively) big Easter egg. The videos are fine, but clearly I've missed the meme.

This so unbelievable rad. Cant wait until she gets to play it.

It is crazy how much Virtual Youtuber have grown in such a small time. Just a few months ago it was niche.
Last several days the Hololive subreddit did constantly hit r/all on reddit since a lot of the members did start posting on it. Funny to see the reactions from outsiders.

To add to this point, there was a video I saw about this where one of the people working for the streamer company described it as "something similiar to AKB (forgot the numbers) idol group". The corporate thingy is there for sure. Thankfully it seems like the streamers are working to destroy that notion.

Yeah it is really crazy.

They deserve it honestly. This whole streaming thing is a lot of work but in this case they create characters which is even more work.

For sure, this seems to be an extension of the idol culture in Japan but the streamers seem to have a lot more autonomy. You can see this if you compare their latest videos with their debut video. Often the debut video very much feels like they're playing a scripted character but after a while it seems quite a few just drop it and be themselves. Which I definitely prefer.

The easter egg is non-intrusive and somewhat obscure enough to the point that I'm pretty sure it was just some programmer's clever unchecked joke rather than some big team effort. Similar things have occurred in the past in games like Sonic Mania which had an obscurely concealed Dunkey reference/voice sample that got patched out once it went viral. Not the first time it's happened and not the last time it will happen.

Doom itself seems to have been something of a VTuber favorite over the year so it's not too surprising the devs might be fans ever since the video of Mick Gordon popping in on Hana Macchia's stream.

Is this by the same guy who draw the cartoon of a guy buying a black porn dvd ending racism? (What a sentence!)
Yes. Its all very much meant to be a parody and every comic features a crying statue of liberty.
No, it's not actually The Onion's cartoonist. It's someone else drawing in his style.

The same reason anyone watches other streamers, and the same reason lots of streamers get special thanks in credits of games these days.

So did people throw this much of a fit over stuff like Gorillaz or what?

Like explain to me like I'm stupid what's so bad here.
This stuff feels incredibly dehumanized/removed from reality.

Streaming (well, the internet in general) already gives off this feeling very strongly. Seeing stuff like this even more so.

It's talking heads to the nth degree.

I realize that I am probably coming across as an "out of touch old person" who's just not keen to trends/hyper-rapid evolving internet culture, but I don't care. Stuff like this is guaranteed to only become more ubiquitous as time goes forward and the internet/technology becomes increasingly more entrenched, and cultures increasingly self-isolating.

"Mickey Mouse is soulless, I can't take these cartoon characters seriously. You ever see a duck with a shirt on!? I think not. This is why we need to elect the conservatives back in because new things scare me!"
