Not sure how much folks here pay attention to 40k tournament scene, but a well known player had his army stolen today. I can't even imagine. Thief probably thought they were stealing nice camera equipment or something.
After browsing the Lexicanum site I decided to read up on the Excorcists and the Lamenters chapters that are mentioned in the Deathwatch books as I didn't know anything about them.
The Excercists being an off shoot of the Grey Knights was a surprise as I didn't think the Grey Knights had any splinter chapters. The Excorcist induction process having such a high casualty rate they need to have extra scout squads of neophyes in order to maintain enough recruits is interesting too.
Then theres the Lamenters. Poor, poor Lamenters. Those guys have been through some shit. Chyron in the Deathwatch novels always says he's the last of the Lamenters but it turns out these guys are still around and have even got Primaris Marines. Wonder if anyone will tell poor Chyron.

Finally getting actual new Sister models and real rules may get me back to 40K.
About 5 years ago I sold my fully painted SoB, Necron, and Chaos Marine armies vowing never to go back.

Not that I particularly have the collection for it, but Armageddon isn't really catching my interest in the way it presents gameplay. The datasheets that are up now just seem so devoid of flavour compared to regular 40k. I gather the command assets will help with that, but I'd rather units keep their more unique abilities.
The things that do interest me about it are the system changes. Like a new way to resolve turns, so you take turns activating units. That and a 12D system for wounds: helps expand the difference between a bolt rifle and gauss flayer. I sort of hope both things make it to the next edition of 40k bit I guess Apocalypse is a good testing ground.
Lastly looks like they're going to be using universal key words to tag rules, like flamer weapons having the "Inferno" keyword, or "Deep Strike". It means less RAW/RAI arguments if the rules are more cohesive.

I didn't notice this was spotlighted. Was going to recommend people watch the Astartes series but I see that was already posted. So I'll recommend some books to introduce people to the lore.
The Gaunts Ghosts series really eases you into things pretty well but if you want to know about different chapters of Space Marines I'd read the space marine battles books. If your interested about the events that essentially create the status quo in the 41st millennium as well as a titans worth of backstory I'd start reading the Horus Heresy books.
Or do what I'd did and read a few hundred wiki articles before buying an Imperial Guard omnibus. Slowly becoming obsessed with collecting black library books and expanding my collection until i have no space in my bookshelf.

Very much agree with this – to get a great flavour for the universe its best to start with the Heresy – keep an eye out on Humble Bundle as they sometimes have deals going on.
I'm half way though the Gaunts Ghosts series and it is excellent, if you fancy something a little less grimdark I would also say the Ciaphas Cain books are a lot of fun!
No, GW are pretty firmly at 28mm now. There is a fan remake of Inquisitior at the 28mm scale that is reasonably popular.

Just think how expensive Krieg models are. That usually stops me.
...granted I'm buying Tau so it's not like I have any self-control.
Half the fun for me is assembling the minis however I want. It's mostly why I loathe the snap together, monopose models, despite them usually having fancy bases.
I'm just not neat with glue at all, so I usually end up getting it smeared and gooped up along and near the joints. Either I put too little glue on for it to bond, or enough for a good bond but it's squeezing/leaking out the joint.

First let me say this is one of the best, if not the best , fan art I've ever seen. From what I understand one person put this together. But I could be wrong.
However, while it has a lot of the elements from the WH40k universe it doesn't feel like it. Everything's all lit up and clean. Where's the gothic, almost mid evil environments? WH40K is basically the dark ages. But far in the future, and in outer space. To me the artist doesn't capture it.
Having said that I look forward to seeing the next installment. 🙂
The sequences take part in the interior of ships. If you look at part 2, the exterior of the ship being boarded definitely fits 40k, and if you look in the background during the shootout you can see the trademark gothic arches on the interior of the ship. The detail is there. It's not super in your face or anything, but it's there.
I'm mainly referring to part 1. Look at the first episode as the Astartes walk down the hallway. All lit up, modern, and clean. But in the book, graphic novels, and other CGI movies I've seen and read the interior hallway of a ship is dark with light coming mainly from candle light. I mean, most of the ships in WH40K are flying cathedrals.
Also, who are they fighting exactly? Are those suppose to psykers in part 4? I hate to keep using the word "clean". But they literally look like Mr. Clean. 😂 I guess I'm used to seeing a psyker a little more corrupt looking.
The creator has chosen to focus on the more industrial aspects of 40k than the gothic. Gothic is more of a vague overarching stylistic theme than a requirement in 40k.
As an example, Inquisitors are always shown in artwork dressed like real historic witch Hunters, yet a lot of times in books have been dressed merely in basic fatigues and stuff.
Smaller escort ships like the Cobra class Destroyer in the Astartes series are usually newly built cause they are hammered out in such speed to refill the losses in battlefleets. They don't often have time to get that grimy look. If you really wanna go the full depressing gothic style then you'd probably have to look inside one of the larger battleships which are built often on ancient tech, salvaged, reused, over and over for millenia cause the Imperium don't have the knowledge (or limited knowledge only) how to make them anymore.
By the by, is this a particular chapter? Or did the artist use a generic group of SMs?
I wasn't able to discern any chapter marking so as it stands they seem to be an original chapter.

Edit: Question: I read on YT it's just one person putting this together. Is that true? I understand you can make a CGI still pic from scratch. But don't you need people in body suits, covered with something, to give points of reference for movement?

Yep, the guy is a freelance animator. He does everything in there ALONE. It's insane.
I picked up a couple of contrast paints. I put some wraithbone on some sections of one a few miniatures I have been working on. The brown contrast paints work extremely well. You can really see the effect. The blues seem more like glazes.
I've picked up some nightvault teams and am going to give them a proper go with the contrast paints.

I usually do them fully assembled but I'm probably going to start leaving the backpacks off my space marines. Its a nightmare to paint shoulder pads or apply transfers when they're getting in the way.
People who paint directly onto the sprue terrify me.
I do both. I do any parts that would be difficult to paint completed on the sprue, start building, and do finishing touches per step.

Space wolves have lots of different shoulder pads, paint em differently and they could be 10 different chapters.

Only non Primaris is one Venerable Dreadnought and the Watch Commander
Though I think if I take a Venerable Dreadnought I can also take a Leviathan Dread as well, so the Watch Commander might go
You know first born Marines shoulder pads are the same size as primaris
