I'm going to guess previews for Epic and Battlefleet Gothic, with Gothic being the most likely. Just a straight out of left field guess.

With both they can just say it's Heresy era which me as you get just a couple of factions. So Heresy era Epic would be Marines and maybe Mechanicum which would then be painted as loyalists or traitors. I'd like an army in a box type deal with comes with a few sticks of infantry and a couple vehicles. For Gothic, just release three fleets (Navy, Marines, Mechanicum) and again leave it up to players to declare them as loyalists or traitors.

It's the Adeptus Titanicus approach, essentially. Gothic is already rumored to take place in the Horus Heresy. I'd much rather it take place in the current era because that means Tau and Necrons could get expanded fleets since Tau were nearly all Forgeworld and Necrons didn't have many ships. But if the rules are mostly the same then I'll take it anyway. Although I wonder how such a preview might step on the toes of the incoming Aeronautica release.

Just finished my first 40K book, The First Heretic.
Started off so slow I struggled with it it got better and the last half was great!

So my question is what do I read next? I'm building a Nurgle/Death Guard army so I'd like to read more about them, are there any books which go into their origins, or any Nurgle books in general?

Oh man go right for Know No Fear. No Death Guard but they get most of their time very late on the series. Know No Fear is the best book in the series and you are set up great.

Read Flight of the Eisenstein, it's largely Death Guard focused.

No Endless Spells for 40k (or at least for now XD). It's a new campaign with new rules and toys for everybody.

Also, Sisters in November, plastic Banshees and they have disgraced Shrike. The AoS Nagash guys are sexy as hell.

Although seeing that jumpjet and lignthing claws, I guess it won't be long until we have the proper Assault Primaris unit.

The Legends stuff is interesting, as I guess it will means the return of the non-updated Index units (aka I'll be able to use once again my vets and librarian on bike). It also opens the door for moving the regular marines to that label with time.

Everything from the preview is awesome! Looking forward to more about the Psychic Awakening. Wish they revealed a bit more than what we got but whatever.

The only thing I don't like is Shrike's emo hair cut. I hope that classic beaky helmet is usable because lordy that hair makes that model look way worse than it should.

Shame they didn't have the nerves to do the Penitent Engine with a female model (or did they?) But maybe is for the best.

Looks like Emo Spidey circa 2007.

Sisters look incredible, and I'm intrigued to see what kind of releases the new narrative event lead to for each faction, especial non chaos & non Imperial ones.

Hololithic imagery of Chapter Master Shrike of the Raven Guard; circa M42 (colorized)

THIS. THAT'S THE FIRST THING THAT CAME TO MIND WHEN I SAW HIM.

So the Sisters were indeed a special box, just not what we expected. Hmm. I might grab it, that depends on when the actual army boxes release, I get the impression only this particular box will release in November.

Making a big deal of the first beak and then having him not wearing it is pretty hilarious imho.

My thoughts:

Love the sisters, they look great!

Love that Eldar are getting some much needed love.

Shrike..ehh...I mean I collect Raven Guard so I guess I'm happy. My usual gripes with primaris stuff apply here. At least they at GW agree that Raven Guard should have emo hair. Maybe they will make an upgrade sprue so I don't have to sculpt hair from green stuff anymore.

Wonder if the usual suspects are out and about over the fact the new pentinent engine is operated by a dude and not a pin-up girl?

Oh god, I hadn't thought about whining about the penitent engine, lol. I'm sure some people will whine but I'm certain there will be both sexes for the penitent pilot.

I'm really interested to see what new vehicle/support units they add for the Sisters. I suspect they've only shown units that already exist so far for a reason.

The infantry and Seraphim look great, so does the Hospitaller. impressed with the whole range so far, if not so much the Canoness.

Psychic Awakening should be good, 40k wide lore updates are usually interesting. The promo video says that the Blood Angels and co are still besieged by Nids, but Siege of Baal must have happened several decades before the 40k 'present' at this point. I'll be interested to see how any lore update there works with the new Dante book Haley has said he's writing. Still, there's always more Nids where the last ones came from, another tentacle of Leviathan presumably!

I'll laugh if it turns out another hive fleet invaded Baal. Maybe the Tyranids just really hate the Blood Angels :P

Pretty excited about the black Templars tease in the pyschic awakening trailer as well.

Hyped about the new Howling Banshees. A couple other teases:

The Facebook post showing off the HB is titled "a Phoenix rises", seems like a strong tease we may be getting a Jain Zar mini.

The "Psychic Awakening" video ends with the Inquisitor saying "Rise or fall, this fate shall not be mankind's alone" while looking at a burning Eldar rune. Seems to hint at some sort of cooperation between Imperium and Eldar. They have been leaning this way for a while; the Eldar helped Roboute get revived, and then again helped turn back Abbadon at Vigilus. (And honestly with how overpowering the chaos threat is supposed to be, cooperation seems to be a good idea, although the Imperium is historically full of self-annihilating bad ideas)

It's about time the Aspects got plastified. I don't collect Eldar but I would be happy to see my fellow pointy ears get some good stuff at last.

I'm getting to the point were I've got small armies I don't even use and then they go and release the sisters box on the same month as me birthday...

I'm excited for that Psychic stuff. Aside from initial community mixed responses to the Primaris, the handling of the lore and the state of the universe has been pretty good recently. And it's nice that they're hinting they're moving on to other non-Marine factions with new models properly now.

And that Shrike, while the hair is funny, gotta say that model ahs a ton of personality. You can litteraly see what sort of character he is in your head.

I love Shrikes new model. That's not a hairstyle I would get caught dead in personally, but I love it for the variety it brings. Not every model needs to be of the same grizzled macho look.

The starter set for Aeronatica Imperialis only being like $90 is super surprising. Might have to pick it up for shits and giggles at some point.

is the psychic awakening referring to the theory that humans will become a psyker race
There are a lot of dormant creatures and horrors, and they said it would affect every faction. That's not a bad theory though, humanity's combined psychic potential has been touched on before, and is why the Emperor tried to hide the existence of chaos powers from them, so they didn't fuel it.

My money is on a number of key things 'waking up' at once as a series of events that affect everyone, much like the Fall of Cadia. A sort of psychic grief/resolve response to the Dark Imperium happening, like an increase in the effect of the sisters faith, or Lion 'el Johnson waking up (who is echoing the Arthurian myth of the hero sleeping under the hill, awaiting his people's darkest hour). Same goes for Russ and the Wolftime. Speaking of Dark Angel's, Luthor's legion-sized army of Fallen feels like it might have something to do with it relatively soon.

Perhaps a dormant Hive Fleet noticing something, or who knows what eldritch horror is out in the darkness. Maybe something out in the Ghoul Stars that the Scythes of the Emperor have been literally sitting on the ruins of.

Alot of people were guessing it to be related to that (humanity's pyshic awakening - along with a stronger alliance with the eldar) but there are so many theories going around.

Since Roboute hates worship of the Emperor as a God, why doesn't he just outlaw the Ecclesiarchy now?
The books Dark Imperium and Plague War cover this, with some good dialogue from Roboute's perspective.

Essentially he tolerates it as the Imperium is already split in two physically and psychically, it doesn't need a civil war based on doctrine at the same time. He doesn't want powerful factions like the ecclesiarchy, the Inquisition, (and perhaps even the largest marine chapter in the Black Templars) undermining him. Considering the masses of influence the ecclesiarchy hold over humanity itself on every planet and in the mind of every baseline human guardsman, naval and Titan crew due to faith being a bastion of sanity (shown as literally proof against possession and warpcraft in various imperial examples) for 10,000+ years, it would be the start of a second Heresy and perhaps the single act that dooms the Imperium.

Who knows what the Emperor spoke to him about when he approached the throne, but even if one of those instructions was 'end the worship of me that at least keeps their minds away from the empyrean', I'd like to think he offered the caveat of 'at a more convenient time than when half a million worlds are screaming in agony, we're beset with enemies to spare and our military is all over the place.' That faith is probably also the main thing underpinning the resilience of untold colony worlds in Imperium Nihilus that the crusade fleets haven't been able to assist.

It'll be interesting to see what the Adepta Soriatas codex has to say about the return of Roboute. From what I read in Plague War, he respects their abilities but not the faith, thinks 'miracles' could have a myriad of warp-based explanations, from mutation to interference by Tzeentch, and knows they are in the pocket of the Ordo Hereticus. On the other hand, they are millions of highly trained, power-armoured soldiers that are resistant to and highly effective against some the horrors out there, so tolerating them and deploying them against the Imperium's enemies is the smart move. He can afford to play the long game with the ecclesiarchy, not so much with chaos, the nids etc.

I do love the way they brought Roboute back as the 'only sane man' to show what someone from the pre-Imperial faith of the Heresy era might think of the 'modern' setting though.

one of the facebook comments said this

"The symbol is most similar to that of the Adeptus Astra Telepathica, with the addition of the four lines expanding from the central eye. That symbol itself draws inspiration from Malcador the Sigillite. "

the return of Malcador?

Pretty sure Malcador is dead.

Like super dead.

Dust dead.

All life energy gulped by the Emperor nom nom nom dead.

Basically a 50/50 chance he comes back.

Isn't that over complicating things? The Eye with lines coming off it has been an Eldar sigil since the very beginning of the game?

Clearly this means the union between the Imperium and the Eldar with the marriage of Gulliman and Yvraine! /s

The Ordo Xenos have a really helpful form that offers to 'streamline' the administration of marriage between Imperial citizens and Eldar ones. All you have to do is add your address, and a 'ceremonial operations specialist' will be there to resolve the matter in 28-456 days, depending on system traffic.
