Thought this was a beautiful moment and worth sharing:

Link for those who can't view tweets: https://twitter.com/ewarren/status/1201523273202327552

"I was wondering if there was ever a time in your life where somebody you really looked up to maybe didn't accept you as much, and how you dealt with that."

WARREN: Yeah. My mother and I had very different views on how to build a future. She wanted me to marry well. And I really tried and it just didn't work out. And there came a day when I had to call her and say "This is over, I can't make it work." I heard the disappointment in her voice. I knew how she felt about it. And sometimes, you just gotta do what's right inside and hope that maybe the rest of the world will come around to it. And maybe they will, and maybe they won't. But the truth is, you've got to take care of yourself first and do this. Give me a hug.

"She was whispering in my ear, 'it's okay, we've got this, we're gonna get through it.' She gives me a sense of hope. And she actually cares about what she's talking about versus other candidates and other politicians, they seem like they do it for the vote. But for her, it's just this gut feeling you get where it's like, no, she actually cares about what she's saying.

This is clearly being marketed by her campaign to make her look relatable and honest.

Having said that, it's a good clip to use because it was clearly natural and unscripted.

I hope she wins but I know better than to have faith in Americans voting.

Important message for this time of year.

Is there a candidate out there that is not working with a campaign manager(s)?
Of course this is being marketed by her campaign. It's literally posted by them. That doesn't mean she didn't say it.

This is a good moment, but it totally looks like that girl is a mini-Warren and she is hugging her past self or something.
We can only hope so.
I love Elizabeth Warren. And her possible doppelganger past-self who's actually a high schooler named Raelyn.
TIL that Elizabeth Warren and her mom fought about teenaged Warren going to college.
Warren, who divorced from her first husband at 22, has been open about her rocky relationship with her mother when she was young. In her 2017 book, she wrote about an argument over Warren's chances at college that became so heated her mother slapped her across the face.
Says something about the power of parent-child relationships that memories of her mother from almost 50 years ago - as well as empathizing with Raelyn's personal struggle - can still bring Warren to tears. Also says something about listening and being true to yourself - even when it's your loved ones blocking you, maybe especially if it's them. If the first big monster you successfully slay in life is parental rejection/disapproval, there's probably no obstacle you can't overcome.

That is the important part because it came from her heart. She should market the hell out of it. It shows her humanity at its finest and the moment was authentic.

The greatest tragedy, really, is watching how this country was never designed to let in anyone different to the oval office. We either elect power hungry madmen or apathetic corporate stooges. Anything else and you simply can not get in.

She might not just cause how sexist gen x and above are.
Already see it here when people say "Bernie's the only good candidate" or when people say there's no good candidate. There's at least two good candidates.
People don't say Bernie's the only good candidate because they're sexist, its because they're actual leftists rather than centre-left, which means that the best candidate for them and only one who will truly move the overton window of the US further towards the left is Bernie. Let's not do the repeat of 2016 where people tried to say only sexists preferred Bernie to Hillary

Somewhere, out there in the world, a billionaire is listening to an employee describe this tweet, and it is filling them with an inexorable sense of economic dread.

Seriously, though, it's dripping with pathos and honesty. That's my president.

Too true. Say what you will about Clinton (and believe me, I do not think she was a great candidate), she was done so fucking dirty by the nature of the Electoral College, and I don't think this is talked about enough.

My grandmother passed away early last year. 2016 was the last presidential election she was able to vote in, and she cast her vote for Clinton. Sometimes I think about how close she came to seeing a woman president in her lifetime, and how that was ripped away from her by such a complete fucking jackass as Trump. It's almost as depressing to me as any of the other consequences we've suffered under his presidency.

Warren is my preference in the primary for a number of reasons that have nothing to do with the dreaded "identity politics," but yeah, I'll admit it. For me, the fact that Warren is a woman is a part of it. I want this country to see a woman president. Grams may not be around anymore to see it, but between 2021 and 2025 there will be four more years of women who come and go in this country, and they deserve that much.

Also anyone who said "a woman, but not that woman" about Clinton in 2016 can get bent.

If you think bernie is the only one who would move the Overton window left and the Warren is center left, then you haven't paid a single second of attention to warren.

This is the most progressive field ever for the Dems. Claiming Bernie is the only leftist is goddamn hilarious.

The constant down playing of the sexist and racist elements of the "progressive" left have become down right infuriating. White lefties are already lining up to place the blame solely on the shoulders of black Democratics voters for when Bernie losses again.

After watching the documentary on Anthony Weiner (which did a good job showing the day to day of campaigning) I felt like I understood why normal people almost never run for office.

Warren would be such a great pres

she's not Bernie, and I have no delusions about her shortcomings on specific progressive policy matters. But all of that combined, I still think she'd be a really great president and would deliver most of the things that are possible to implement. (M4A, Loan forgiveness, court packing)

I wonder what kind of garbage Trump would answer to the same question..
He doesn't look up to anybody.

What does and doesn't constitute a leftist is pretty subjective -- Republicans have been calling all stripes of Democrats pinko leftists for decades and much of the country believes that -- but it is ridiculous to think Bernie and Bernie alone can push the overton window left. Warren has been pushing Bernie further left in some areas this year.

The 2nd most left of the candidates is Warren and she isn't even demsoc. Bernie honestly isn't even fully socialist himself but he's the closest the US as a presidential candidate, at least in recent years. Like Warren is the only one of the bunch who is decent and if Bernie doesn't get it I sincerely hope its her over anyone else but She isn't a leftist, she's just slightly more left than the democrats as a whole, who are actually just centre for the most part, at least by the standards of those of us outside the US

I'm glad warren is in the race specifically for this reason, because he's got more work to get his platform to stand out, and as a result is doing a leftier campaign than in 2016.

I'm also glad yang is in the race because it means that bernie isn't getting the techno-libertarian cult of personality either

Liking Bernie more than Warren shouldn't be distilled down to sexism.

I would love a female president, but I would vote for Sanders if the choice was between them.

She really is a great candidate. Ah Warren why did your campaign have to botch the M4A messaging! She was really high up there at one point. I'm hoping she can make a return towards competing with Biden at stronger level.

OP do you work for buzzfeed by any chance?

Beyond that, this is a pretty heartfelt message from Warren, genuine as well.

I love Warren and she's by far my #1 pick but I don't think I see the same thing that others see here. What does she mean by her mother wanting to marry well? As in marry somebody well-off?

Is not the same as saying

So I don't see how your response is relevant to what they said.

I would say Warren is an okay candidate, definitely better than the other dems (excluding Sanders), but I'm also a very ardent socialist. If you're more left than me, I could see how "there are no other candidates" is an understandable position.

Not excusing sexism, but you can dislike Warren for reasons beyond it.

It's not about liking Bernie, it's about the people that act like he's the only rational choice. You can only come to that conclusion if you ignore Warren

My problem is that y'all Bernie or busters don't realize how few cards you hold.
America at the federal level isn't ANYWHERE near Bernie or Warren as far as elected representatives go.
There's probably like what less than 10 demsocialists out of the like 535 person congress

No, not really. There are reasons for leftist people to not want to vote for Warren.

It doesn't mean that they won't if it comes down to her v. Trump, but I also wouldn't like to be coerced to say "she's also a good candidate" if I absolutely don't agree with her neoliberal policies.
