This snow is really starting to stress me out. So much shit to do and it looks like no end in sight. Heading out to Paris on Friday so hopefully it doesn't linger all week. Shit sucks.

Obviously those numbers are still high for totals but can we please not lose our collective minds again please people. This reminds me of the supposedly "once in a lifetime" event weather folks were propping up that wind storm from a few years back in the Seattle area that fizzled into absolutely nothing. It was almost the same scenario too in terms of a day prior in the week having more intensity in wind than the actual day they predicted to be "THE BIG ONE". Cue this week and at least where I'm at the snowfall we got earlier in the week had about twice as much snowfall and wasn't projected at all afaik. What I'm saying is big milk and big bread want your money BAD, it's collusion with NOAA people trust no one! But in all seriousness weather folks really do like to hype up some events as the biggest thing ever, I mean just a few days ago they were saying what we got yesterday and today could eclipse the 2008 totals. What were the totals for Seattle again today? Like two inches? Most major thoroughfares are clear ffs. Don't get me wrong I'm glad the forecast was wrong cause I don't want to deal with being landlocked again, nonetheless I'm weary of the cycle of weather disaster porn people like to get fixated on and create faux hysteria in the process. No need to Mad Max this shit every time the forecast for snow pops up. That said let's hope we all don't die come Tuesday :p

Man, did I ever underestimate this entire ordeal. I mean, y'can't blame me, mostly this kinda stuff is reserved for the mountains and sea levels above 800ft but damn. Lynnwood has been ... not great, anything that's not a major arterial road is pretty much ignored but even worse there aren't really any sidewalks cleared (even since mon.) and it's a pain to walk anywhere. SO MANY HILLS ffs

Not everything is centered around Seattle, pierce/Thurston county and SE King county got 10+ Inches of snow, that storm broke some records for accumulation
Seattle got 2-3 inches, it's always going to be hit or miss due to how close Seattle is to the water. Mass did say Seattle area would get around 4 inches and more further east. If we're being honest this storm over performed projections. The 8-12 inches is for new snow. So for Seattle it's total accumulation. Will be 8-10 inches, places like Puyallup with a foot? Likely looking at 20+ inches.
People talk about this great conspiracy to sell bread and milk, Why is it such a bad thing to double up on bread and milk on one trip instead of taking multiple trips?
I'm glad Mass puts in these 'scare' words in there, he wants people to prepare, he wants cities and schools to prepare.

It was coming down really hard this morning here in southern Oregon, but it didn't last long. Got about four inches before it quit, and now the sun is out melting it away lol.
We'll see how it looks over the next couple days, but the snow we got a few days ago was way worse.

This is true those areas got it hard but I do think theres still too much fear mongering behind Seattle metro area forecasts specifically, part of why I included that quote from Mass encouraging people NOT to run around like headless chickens like they did for this go around. That doesn't need to happen every time is one of my points, and he agrees.
Also I was being just a tad tongue in cheek about the milk and bread thing :)
Got enough of my driveway shoveled (despite my plastic snow shovel breaking into tiny pieces earlier) that I can get my car out. I don't need to go out today, but I figured that since no more snow was expected today I'd get ready for tomorrow. Winds have kicked enough snow off trees that there is already a thin covering of snow over the area I cleared out. I'll definitely have to see about picking up a real, metal snow shovel tomorrow.
Our driveway shares an easement with our neighbors. They're good people. Normally.
My wife and I spent hour today scooping out the driveway and a path from our car to the house and everything melted so it was clear and dry. Now that the sun has gone down, the neighbors girlfriend just came out and dumped all of the snow from their car parked in the driveway all over it so it's covered again. Like didn't even try to keep it contained. And it was immediately ice and it already encased the driveway so my attempts at shoveling again were futile.

Oh, orting and puyallup won't exist after Rainer erupts. The port of Tacoma's doomed too. I think you're right, in that most of Tacoma is on a hill, and is probably safe, but losing the port would be devastating to the local economy.

Just say no to easement. I have one for my neighbor but no shared driveway so seldom any issues but it irks me knowing it's MY PROPERTY and he's squatting it.
Snow is weird right now. We went out to cap hill for dinner and roads were OK. Not a single flake fell but on the way back everything appeared to have a fresh dusting. Getting hella icy too, predictably. And I saw maybe twenty cars all the way home but ten of them piloted by mouth breathing ingrates.
2-3 more inches tomorrow.
There are three houses on the easement, us and two others. The majority of the easement is between the other houses. Our driveway and property line is clearly separated. They share a sewer line and the owners (both groups who live in the houses rent) are constantly fighting over needing to have their sewer lines replaced. It's like Hatfield's and McCoys at times.

Yep! We had our side sewer replaced a few years ago. Wasn't cheap but damn worth it. The guy who did ours scoped the other houses' line and was all "theirs is fucked." When it rains heavy one of the houses has their basement bathtub backup with sewage. It sucks but the landlord refuses to have it fixed.
Any chance one of these systems turns to warm rain and washes this shit away? I'be had my full with playing in snow, I'm so tired of it.

It's full of dirt and roots according to our sewer dude and has been cut off at their property line.
I've marked it out in Gaf porn diagram format. The green is normally moss, about eight inches thick with no sign of underlying roof tile - and the top is a large tarp.
The yellow is the approximate location of a house that is COMPLETELY uundetectable with the naked eye. Below that is my actual reaction the night I happened to be looking there when the light turned on. I believe I had lived there for almost five years when I spotted it. I almnost shat. Someone lives inside there and I have never seen them. Ever.

Our neighbor did his sewers out to the front street - which is where we got this info from. His sewer guy said that they definitely don't have a city permitted septic tank - because he pulled the records and the city would never renew that on this hill, and that the worst case scenario is that they have a defacto septic "hollow" under their house and continue to flush waste into the water table and gravity gets it downhill to the east of the building (thank god we're uphill and to the west) and he says that it might be worth asking the neighbors on the block east of the house if they have any problem phenomenon. There's also a natural southbound creek somewhere under this neighborhood that leads to Lake Union (I've seen the access manhole and it's literally too deep to see where the ladder stops) and it's quite possible they have either accidentally or deliberately found a way to drain into that.
As for the murder house, I joke about it a lot when friends come over and can occasionally glimpse movement flickering in there. But I'm deadly serious. It's directly opposite our place - on the same legal lot as the blue house - maybe fifty feet from where I'm typing - but I have never seen the resident. I literally didn't know a second house was there for years. The neighbor who knew about the sewers says he has seen the guy, but never seen his face. Just caught glimpses of him vanishing into the ivy leaves - apparently into an open door beneath them.
The lady who lives in the rotting blue house lives there rent free. The owner is a local "character" who may be getting too old for his various property issues to be funny (or permanent) anymore. She has never spoken to me in seven years and I attempt to say hi once or twice every other day. She just looks at me. Not mean. Not dumb. Not even rude or cold. Just empty? Sometimes she parks her car diagonally across her tiny lawn (normally it's parked right in front of the house, parallel to the curb as you'd expect) for a reason I can't fathom - but it's specific - maybe moving something heavy to or from her car?
She has also never once caused an issue - not even parked badly, or made any noise, or drawn any sort of attention at all. But a gang of about eight racoons lives inside her roof. It must be perfectly audible. They enter through the dark gap between the front door awning and the roof proper. Possibly because they're literally domesticated because they live in a house, they are very mellow for racoons and completely unfazed by people. Not even cautious or curious. We may as well be squirrels. And when there's no snow - the entire roof is moss. No visible roof tiles - although the moss itself echoes their shape as rounded bumps.
Down here in SW Portland, Oregon we were promised a bunch of snow and we got NOTHING >:(

I climbed up on my shed this morning and cleared the snow. It's a flat roof so that could've been bad.
Yeah, I planted some cedars and a hemlock a year ago or so. The hemlock hunched over badly. I tied it to the huge hemlock next to it, but will need to grab a stake once the ground thaws enough to put it in. My neighbors bamboo is super hunched over the fence, but it's bamboo so meh. It will grow back in like 35 minutes, lol.
Flurries starting in NE Seatle. I'll be at work tomorrow but may leave early if the mixed precip starts.
Snow I can deal with, but the ice is trying to kill me. Living on a hill where my only options are "slowly come out of my driveway and hope to god and I can get traction to go up or head down hope I can get enough speed (and no other cars are in the way) to get up the other hill, is just awful.
The other day a snowplough came by to put down salt, it only did about half the hill before it started to slide back down, ran into a bus. A couple of hours later, the two truck kept slipping as it tried to pull it away. I "look forward" to seeing what mess happens with tonight and tomorrow's snow, followed by rain, then snow and rain of the rest of the week.
