The book was great, and a huge bestseller, fact that marketing hasn't kicked up for this means the studio knows it's dog shit.

Baby Driver was pretty kickass.
He is in the Spielberg directed remake of West Side Story
Hmm, well musicals tend to do pretty well nowadays so he might go okay, unless Cats sinks that genre with how fucking creepy it looks...

I am still Day 1 on Cats.
Nightmarish though it may be, it at least is making artistic choices. That movie does not look like it was directed by the studio.
Warner Bros is still looking pretty good as far as their Oscars bench is concerned. Joker will probably get a best actor nom, Just Mercy seems right up the academys alley and Motherless Brooklyn will probably get something.
I don't really like Ansel Elgort at all, but isn't possible people went to see it with their expectations too high? The Goldfinch is the Donna Tartt book, both a bestseller and critically acclaimed. Not to mention this stellar cast. On the other hand, it is indeed Oscar bait, so that could be a factor.
I always end up looking at the book at stores but I've never bought it. I've honestly not heard that much about it.
I'm embarrassed I made a thread about how good this movie looked. No clue what I was thinking at the time hahaha

Oh cool. Maybe I'll get around to it after I finally read The Overstory. I can probably only read one winner at a time.
It's honestly a very approachable read. Don't be fooled by the fact that the plot features a famous painting - it's really IMO a book about recovering from losing someone.
For me, it's always lovely to see a movie that is so blatantly engineered to be an Oscar bait to fail spectacularly.

Uh, that's untrue. This seems to be a miss, however. Shame - the book was a good read.
I recommend you check out Lion or Big Little Lies. Even Destroyer has an amazing performance.
She's currently the fourth highest paid actress in Hollywood.
Just in the last few years she was in The Beguiled, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Paddington, Top of the Lake: China Girl, Destroyer and Big Little Lies.

I'm in the same camp. It might have worked as a slow tv series, but as a movie? This is expected, unfortunately.
Everything I saw about this in trailers or promos or ads just made it look like the movie had no direction and was disjointed.
