I haven't been a gamer for years. I've been a programmer for much longer.
Now I'm a retired and disabled engineer.
I stumbled in after reading some angry rant in a political discussion, wherein the ranter was very angry about something he blamed resetera.com for, and it came out making resetera sound like a good place. So I decided to stop in and check it out.
Thanks to the admin for approving me.

I doubt I'll be a regular. I tend to obsess over an interest for a while, and then let it lie dormant for a time before returning to it.

Welcome. And yeah moderation is pretty good and generally keeps the noise from nitwits down. And Forums are the best, they just facilitate actual conversations in a way that other social media and comment sections don't.

Sorry about the career change though, kind of sucks when you reach your dreams and they turn out to be nightmares.

On the gaming side, I own all modern consoles except for Nintendo Switch :( Online gamer on all of them.
Xbox One (S/X) is my main console, where I mostly play Halo 5 online. I play Tekken 7 online on the PS4. Send a PM if you wanna play (I'm EU based).
However, GamePass has reïgnited my interest for story driven games.

Hi everyone! My name is Alex and I'm from Australia. I've had an on-again off-again love affair with video games all my life that was reignited two years ago when I played Dark Souls for the first time. I enjoy Metroidvanias and puzzle games most of all, although I'm interested in any game that is thoughtfully constructed. I also enjoy board games and tabletop games; I recently started running a homebrew DND campaign for a group of friends. I play mostly on PS4, which is the only dedicated platform I have for gaming, although I also have a MacBook Pro on which I sometimes play older PC games and newer cross-platform releases.

I've always struggled to find a place for myself in online communities so I don't know how much I'll post, but in the past few weeks I've been visiting Era more and more, so I figured I should make an introduction. The tone of the discussion here is different than in many other places (not to the detriment of those other places; there's a time and a place for everything, after all!), and I am glad to be able to participate in whatever capacity.

Unfortunately since my parents never allowed us to buy a console or handheld I could only play games on PC, so apologies if I end up not being able to get into genres that were console-exclusive like JRPGs.

In real life I'm just a ho-hum Electrical Engineering undergrad on my 5th semester, that's struggling to get his novel started.

Your not the youngest but we get older still, I am 42 and I know for a fact there are regulars that are older than me, though around my age is probably what the oldest end averages out to, 40-45 or so.
