We're less than 100 days away from a new decade - where's the excitement?

Seriously? I remember when the clock turning into a new decade was something to be hopeful and happy about. Something that might bring new opportunities, but this one seems so subdued. No-one really cares, I get it, shit is awful and the world feels like it's turning backwards sometimes, automation is looming, climate change is getting worse and the worlld is slowly dying, but it's still pretty exciting that we're entering the 2020s.

What new shit do y'all think we'll see?

It means it's time to start a thread about what the game of the decade is.

My vote goes to Dark Souls.

I'm preparing to die argue.

The world is on fire, Nazis are back in full force, including our government, People still want me dead for my skin color, And it is only going to get worse.

Fuck flying cars and automation until we fix this nonsense.

The only thing I care about right now is Trump not being president anymore. Any year that passes while that kidney stone of a human being is still in power is a wasted year.

I got all excited when 2001 started a new millennia, so now I'm not super stoked about 2021 being a new decade. But I'm even less excited about a fake new decade starting in 2020.

Ask me again after November 2020.

Edit: Even then, I'm not sure "excitement" will be the emtion. More like if things go the way they should, I'll feel a temporary relief.

Current decade feels like it's been going on for twenty years. I don't really differentiate the 2000's from the 2010's.

If nothing else, it's nice that it'll be a decade that has a single good name. The 20's or 2020's is way better than whatever people are calling the 00's or the 2010's. I don't remember a whole ton of fanfare for the decade changing over in 2010 (or 11 if we're really doing this). I don't remember 2000, but that seems like it was a huge deal even barring all the Y2K stuff.

Ever closer to total societal collapse by global warming/climate change. I suppose it will at least be eventful.

with the advent of modern technology we are a lot closer to the beginning of the decade than other generations before us.

it isn't the same anymore.

The Yankees are running out of time to keep their World Series appearance every decade streak going.

Technically a decade is years 1-10 so 2020 is the final year of this decade

I was young(10) but I do remember it being a huge deal even outside Y2K, which from my memory wasn’t as big a panic as we make it out to be today, but that could just be because of how young I was at the time. Also when Japan switched to 2000 and nothing happened everyone knew it was fine.

What is there to be excited about? It's just a digit.

Technically decades/centuries/etc start on the year ending with 1, not 0
"Technically"? Anno Domini year groupings are rarely followed in casual usage, and it's an idiotic standard that should be tossed regardless. It's mathematically cleaner to separate things by 0-9.

Next year will be the first year that people call part of "the 20s."

while technical dudes are right most people care about the 0, the hype for the year 2000 was gigantic while 2001 was normal

Austria
look, I already experienced going into 2000. So what's 2020? Small beans. Trash. A garbage year I won't even acknowledge.

EDIT: One step closer to

My literal reaction when I read the thread title:
