Yes, I think it's basically this. When people talk about anime in video games, they talk about Japanese pop culture. Not only the artstyle, but also everything surrounding it like the cliches, character archetypes, and fetishes pandering. Which lead to the original discussion, 2B design is heavily influenced by Zettai Ryouiki fetish.
Influenced? Yoshida always loves his thighs and he's been drawing since the 90s. Like, Ashe's ass and thighs are as great as they can get, but I don't think the phrase "Zettai Ryouiki" picked up its current meaning when Ashe's design was revealed in 2003.

Maybe he's part of the reason the fetish started in the first place.

I generally can tolerate full anime given that almost all anime tropes make me burst into laughter. Fan service is off-putting but you'll get that in games that have no anime either. I draw the line at sexual violence and pedo garbage, though.

None. Anime is absolutely disgusting and a breeding ground for some fucked up individuals.

But you seem to love God of War and it was well established on the last page that God of War's fight scenes are extremely anime.

How do you reconcile your well-advertised distaste of anything anime and Japanese-made with The Stranger doing superspeed anime zigzags straight out of Devil May Cry on Kratos?

I'm only half-joking.

Negro don't even trying to front with that prim and proper shit. You know what we talking about. That ugu obnoxiously moe type shit. That kawaii desu, half baked, fakku echii, cookie cutter, pantsu type shit.
I didn't know what you were talking about. The bar for too anime varies from person to person. I have had people try to tell me street fighter or tekken isn't anime. Two games that litterally have folks going various levels of super saiyan and school girls in it, but soul calibur is inherently somehow more anime.

The matric for what is " anime " needs to be defined, what you talking about tropes? Art style, because a lot of that shit isn't japan specific.

But now that you actually defined by what you mean by " anime" I can understand your complaints, at least from your perspective. And I would agree i'm not fond of that for the most part either, but I label that as " harem/waifu/husbando shit " rather than just " anime "

I'd rather not have it at all, but if a game can do it well, like P5 does (well, most of the time), I don't mind it.

Just don't go to Xenoblade 2 levels of cringe.

In the weak and the wounded
Absolutely none.

The list of examples in the OP is almost a perfect scale starting with games I love, then games I'm lukewarm about through to games I dislike or actively despise.

Anime is poison. Almost invariably leads to shit storytelling, shit characters, shit character designs, extra shit dialogue and everything being smeared in a heavy layer of especially greasy "fanservice", frequently bordering on pedophile bait..

I didn't know Hayao Miyazake posted on resetera.

I used to be able to tolerate it better when I was younger but I'm pretty much done with it now. I'm tired of the tropes and tired of the melodrama.

Before I clicked on the thread I said "full anime" out loud and I'm glad it was an option.

Eliminate anime at all costs.

(Light dose is fine, but the higher the anime levels in terms of art style and especially writing, the more likely I'll never want to get near the game in question.)

Not a game, but Food Wars is good with this... the equal opportunity part. No one is safe when it comes to those orgasmic scenes they use to show the food tastes good.

True, but most fan service can't go that far anyway.

And I'm sure there's people out there that are fine with her being skinless...
Well none of the titans are girls beyond the Female, and are all drawn to be uncanny-valley scary, so even then I wouldnt consider that

Eliminate anime at all costs.

You should play better anime games then :)

I'm not feeling smart enough to explain my whole suit of thoughts on this, so I'm just gonna say around Yakuza - Persona - Suikoden. From upper to lower bounds. There's a few exceptions like Metal Gear, but that's mostly the range I enjoy.

0% if possible. Games without exaggerated high-pitched shrieks, questionably aged characters, impossibly strict adherence to tired tropes, blatant pandering to horny teenagers, generally terrible narrative, unsightly over-designed characters, etc.

All of the anime, give me every single percent of anime. Anime artwork is the best, it's better than real life.

Depends on the kind of anime. Trash like Xenoblade 2? 0%, harem garbage has zero appeal to me, it's mindless pandering with zero artistic merit and all corporate handwaving.

Stuff like psycho pass, valkyrie profile (or even valkyria chronicles) - 30%. This stuff's good.

Stuff like Utena, Yuri on Ice, Simoun, Rolling Girls or Sailor Moon: 2000%.

Anime's not monolithic, some of it is worthless, other stuff is nice. It's a shame Utena-like games don't exist :/

I have built up a high amount of Anime resistance over the years, so I can stomach full anime just fine.
It doesn't have to be there though, and some of the more problematic elements are tolerated more so than enjoyed.

I usually like 0% anime in my games. But sometimes I do like 100% anime, like Tokyo Xanadu. That game is anime as fuck, but I quite liked it. I was traveling and bought it for my Vita to play on the trip.

I like my games to be anime enough that I can't walk into a thread about them on Era without the exact same cast of characters whinging about them and how they'd love to play this game if only it was an entirely different game. Bonus points if goalposts get moved and other obviously anime-inspired games get a free pass because "when I say anime I don't mean anime I mean a specific kind of anime, that game is different because I like it."

it depends entirely on the game. How much anime do I want in God of War? 0. How much anime do I want in .Hack or Ni No Kuni? 110%.

This is like asking how much mustard you want on your food. Sandwich? Load it up. Pudding? No thanks.

I tend to gravitate more towards games with less anime style. That's not to say I completely avoid it, as some of my most favourite franchises are from Japan and tend to have anime aspects to them (especially stuff like Ace Attorney). I don't even mind some super anime JRPG cheese if the game is good, like Eternal Sonata. If it has overt fan service or pandering to the waifu base, though, you already lost me.
There's games that have sexualization that I don't mind as much, like Bayonetta, but I feel like there's a mile of difference between Bayonetta and the typical anime waifu.

Though I guess how much of that you consider fanservice depends on the individual.

Is this considered fan-service now? haha. I remember the manga used to have Mikasa inserts at the end of each volume, usually in a different costume from different time periods and styles. An MMA costume once! Mikasa always been known for her abs, which I adore (abs are sexy after all), but Annie still best girl.
============

Ahem.

Are we talkin' like 90's anime or right now anime? Can't honestly say I like too much modern styles, but it doesn't actively deter me either since the most important aspect is always story and good characters to me.

Any amount is fine with me I guess as long as the story pans out in the end. :)

These days, thanks to all the damn fanservice, None.

I simply can't trust games like that anymore, before you know it a 10 year old girl is flashing you her panties and bra, with breasts the size of water melons. And that HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HOOOORRIBLE, Porn like voice acting for "giggles" "oooooh" and the moans together with those sound effects. Never again shall I fall for that and have that blasted into my face on a big screen, if it has ANY chance of fanservice, I keep away from it.

Simply can't trust it.
