We've seen the nominees for this year's TGAs, and they're a great list. I felt it would be nice to see ERA's opinions and preferences, and what you feel has been the best soundtrack this year, listing your favourite tracks and why you love them so much.

This year, the two soundtracks that go head-to-head with each other are God of War's and Red Dead Redemption II's. Both phenomenal scores with memorable tracks, that could be among the best of this generation, alongside the likes of Bloodborne, The Witcher 3 and Nier Automata.

This year, I'd give the slight edge to Red Dead Redemption 2 for the sheer volume and variety of tracks that it offers, while God of War is incredibly close in delivering something so incredibly bodacious.

Personal Favourite Tracks:

Note: I've avoided certain tracks that are certainly more spoiler-y in their titles.

either Celeste

or Deltarune

Smash 4 is up there too but I don't think it'd be cool of me to post stuff outside of the spoiler thread

I agree with MrBadger. Either Celeste or Deltarune. I'm going to pick Deltarune though. Field of Hopes And Dreams & Don't Forget are phenomenal.

Don't we do a thread at the end of the year for that?
Octopath and Zeroranger are up there for me so far.

God of War's OST is good but Red Dead Redemption's is even better IMO and the number of compositions is astonishing, when God of War has less variety, even being shorter. Spider-Man's main theme is gold. Also, Detroit Connor's musics.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate, even if we only count the new tracks.

It's not fair to other games to be compared to because the amount of franchises involved is already profoundly rich in music. Mega Man and Castlevania, for example, are known just as much for their music as for what their games are like.

Sea of Thieves definitely nailed the pirate aesthetic with the soundtrack composed by Beanland.

Very close tie with SoT, Deltarune and Monster Hunter World

And while the remixes are great, it's kind of unfair since it's a best-of of franchises like Castlevania and DK Country

I mean it would be a bit hypocritical of me to go down that route anyway, since I've mentioned how good Civ 6's new tracks are and they're pretty much orchestrations and mixes of existing folk songs/melodies. I do at least prefer to talk about tracks that are original in games, otherwise I'd be raving about Hollow Knight again just because it got console releases this year.

I'm sure Smash's soundtrack is great (I wasn't even aware it was out yet), but since I know it's going to be one of the most popular options, I want to give props to some of the musical underdogs.

I think Read Dead Redemption 2 takes it for me. God of War was wonderful as well in terms of music. Far Cry 5 deserves an honorable mention, the music was really nice.

Last year Nier Automata was the undisputed Champion of Sound.

RDR2's soundtrack fits the game and the scenery so perfectly, it's almost scary sometimes.

From what I've played, it's Celeste.

Overall Smash probably wins by default due to its very nature. Which probably isn't what the OP was looking for.

For me it's Smash Ultimate :

And besides the remixes, the original compositions are no slouches :
