Battlefield 1, 4, and V are still going strong.

Titanfall 2 is amazing, but dont know how active the playerbase is right now.

Could never get into Siege. I hate super tactical shooters as I tend to play alone.

Fortnite BR for me still. It has a higher skill ceiling than any of the other games being mentioned in here.

You'll have to be willing to adopt the building mechanics on top of shooting though.

I'm having a blast in Battlefield V but the content drip is a little slow and it there's bug rendering some people invisible except for like their arms and helmet which is annoying but other than that, having a pretty good time.

Black Ops 4 is a pretty fully package. Has your standard MP and Battle Royale but the monetization is a mess and they turned standard MP into a cluster. Hopefully COD 2019 dials some shit back. Specialist abilities + killstreaks is too much.

I used to play a ton of Siege but just kind of fell off of it. I wish they had more mode than they have now. Sometimes you just want a standard TDM.

There's also Gears of War MP. Still my personal fave even though I play mostly PS4 now. Nothing else like it. Gears also has the best variation of TDM where you have a team pool of lives and everyone gets one last life. It's just a little change that makes the mode so much better.

I'm interested in Siege but it looks like something that would be hard to get into.

They have a Newbie playlist just for you. Select few maps, everyone under a certain level only. Great for you.

Siege and OW are top competitive games.
All the BR games are really good (Blackout, Fortnite, Apex). I dont know how PUBG is doing on console.

Overall, I'd say Siege.
MCC just for the amount of content.
Battlefront II for some Star Wars fun and chaos.
Titanfall 2 has excellent gun and game play.
Overwatch for less emphasize on shooting and more on game play mechanics.

Haven't played it for a while, but Rainbow Six: Siege is hands-down the best multiplayer shooter this gen. Apex legends is good though

Unpopular opinion: Halo 5

Easily my most played multiplayer shooter this gen. People still play so you can find games no problem in my experience.

Siege is not only one of the best multiplayer shooters this gen but of all time.

There's a learning curve for sure as you familiarize yourself with the maps and operators but the sense of fulfillment and satisfaction is huge. If you pay attention and are cautious, you can still contribute a lot. My worst experience was coincidentally in the beginning when I was being matched with newcomers, it only gets better and better as you climb the ranks.

I'll give it a go as I've heard this sentiment a lot

Honestly if you're a Halo fan just play MCC. I still think the halo gameplay is unmatched as far as console FPS goes.

But Apex is a lot of fun. Sorta has Halo vibes from how accurate the guns are and time to kill.

Overwatch is awesome coming from a Halo fan because it doesn't have ADS.

Siege is a lot of fun but honestly a very tough game to get into. I played a bit here and there but honestly have no idea where camera placements are or the maps at all.

I've played thousands of hours of Halo. I've been playing Apex lately and will look into siege

Depends on how you play.

If you've got a group of people to play with R6: Siege is outstanding. It works well as both a sweaty, go-big or go home competitive experience, but it also works well as a game that you can fuck around in and make some weird, outlandish plays in. However, if you're solo-queueing then the toxic community might be a bit of a turnoff. That said, Siege is also a very slowly paced game, and if you try to play fast and loose you'll likely get frustrated quickly.

Overwatch is in a similar boat, great with friends, terrible toxic community that can sap your enjoyment if you're solo-queueing. Overwatch is also much faster than Siege, so if you're looking for something less methodical and more manic, it might be worth trying.

A major problem with both games however is that you've got a lot of learning you need to do in regards to character picks and counter picks. There are 48 operators in Siege and 30 heroes in Overwatch. Each of them is tailored to do something specific and what's more, each of them has unique interactions with other player's characters. So you not only need to memorize what your character does and how it can be most effectively utilized, you need to learn how your character interacts with other characters. Then you need to learn which characters counter other characters, ect. ect. It can be a bit of a logistical nightmare.

If you don't mind an older shooter, Battlefield 4 still has a very active playerbase and it works incredibly well as a game you can just pick up and play; you can get all the base game and all the map-packs for next to nothing and I'd consider BF4 one of the greatest multiplayers of all time.

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 for your larger scale stuff.
Rainbow Six: Siege for your competitive stuff.
Paladins: Champion of the Realm for your "huh, this is better than Overwatch!" stuff.
Titanfall 2 for your "huh, this is better than every other shooter this generation!" stuff.

The whole "Paladins is better than Overwatch" talks seems to be a bit much. Good game, and much easier to get into (I think?) and play, but if Overwatch is MLB, then Paladins is t-ball.

I feel like there isn't a single decent shooting game honestly, but I haven't played a majority of them. I might try Siege based off of the replies in this thread.

It's hard to recommend a console shooter right now. Performance is a big thing for me and I only just "tolerate" Apex Legends because it is free and I've got nothing else to play to fill that void. Truth is, Apex has horrible performance on base PS4 oh my god. Especially at the beginning of a match.

I actually really still enjoy and find myself playing Halo MCC, Gears 4 and Halo 5 the most currently. Other shooters(with the exception of OW) just feel like there's a bigger learning curve (specifically with map knowledge) that i don't feel like going through. I just enjoy the comfort and familiarity with Halo/Gears personally.

Rainbow Six Siege. Probably my game of this generation.

Yep. Nothing else like it. It's got those hero shooter ideas with character specific gadgets and some of the presentation, but implements then in a realistic high tactics FPS.

Amazing game, have been playing it several times a week since it launched four years ago.

Siege is way too boring for me. Too much just sitting in corners and "holding" angles.

I have no idea how anyone could boil Siege down to just that. It moves way too quick for it to be only that.

At the moment I vote Apex legends and , if there were enought players I say Titanfall 1 or 2. Awesome gameplay, plays great with a controller and are and all-around polished and fun experience in my opinion.

I really tried go get in to siege last year bit ut did absolutely nothing for me. All my friends play it though so I guess i am the odd one hehe.

Apex, Quake Champions, Splatoon 2, Pubg are more fun in my book.

Edit. Missed the console part so scratch qc and pubg

Online shooters and multiplayer games are pretty much all I play, and I have to say Apex is still #1 for me. It just has a great blend of gunplay, movement, ttk, teamplay, and other mechanics that make it superior to other shooters out there. I'll still play other shooters for variety, particularly as certain games fulfill different niches, but overall I have to go with Apex. The s2 additions to the game have been great, especially ranked mode as its added a sense of tension to the game that was missing from the normal playlist.

I got Seige and have played it some, but you spend so much time in menus or prepping for the round that it's difficult for me to play for too long because you spend so much time not actually playing.

I recently snagged the Division 2 with that Gamestop sale and I've been extremely surprised how much I am enjoying it, but I'm only level 12 and have played 10-15 hours. The shooting feels great, the guns all feel different, the loot drops regularly and gives you good reasons to change stuff out. It's possible in ten hours I'll be totally burnt out on it, but right now I am having a blast playing with randoms and can't wait to play with friends. The AI and encounters are way better than I expected.

Siege, but beware; you also won't find a more toxic community in any online console game. I play quite a few different MP games, but Siege is the only one where my inbox fills up with little babies crying and saying all kinds of racist, homophobic, slurs every time we lose a match.

OW and BFV are my favorite ones right now.

I tried Siege a couple years ago and thought it controlled terribly on a gamepad. Did they fix it or something?

I asked this in the most improved game thread...

What is so good about Battlefront 2 now? I played a bit at launch but got bored.

For everyone mentioning Siege, is there a way to get into the game that doesn't require presumably just jumping online and being destroyed over and over and over? My girlfriend and I like to play FPS games, but neither of us will have fun if that's the only way to play.

There's co-op modes I believe?

Maybe run some terrorist hunt to get used to some of the mechanics.
