What is the worst part of The Phantom Menace?

I haven’t seen Phantom Menace since probably 2000 or 2001. I remember it being dissapointing and cheesy.

This week I’ve been watching all of the movies in release order with my daughter and I’m blown away by how much worse this movies is than I remember. Some of these decisions and scenes are just inexplicable as to why they are even included.

My choice? A creature farts in Jar Jar’s vicinity and he says “Pee-Yousa”. Why is that not edited out? Was Lucas getting ideas from his kids on what was funny?

I’ve never actually seen The Phantom Edit but I’m now very interested in watching it to see how different a tone it presents.

Anakin being a child is the worst thing about the movie for multiple reasons, including the necessity of casting a child actor, the creepy Padme/Anakin romance stuff, and the fact that we're robbed of an entire film's worth of character development for the most important character in the series.

The funny thing is that Anakin was supposed to a teenager, than Lucas decided to make him a kid.

The part where Darth Maul shows up without his lightsaber ignited and the shit ton of people nope the fuck out instead of blasting him away.

The pod-racing sequence is way too long.

Other than that, the Jar Jar poop and fart jokes.

If you're going to inject politics into my space wizard fantasy opera, don't. Failing that, make it interesting. Failing that, at least skip the racist stereotypes.

Would probably be shorter to list what’s not wrong with Phantom Menace.
The music and the sound effects deserve the praise.
Oh and the costume designers did a great job.

The Maclunky line, since it subsequently made episode 4 worse.

Edit: Best part of The Phantom Menace is the making of documentary, which is actually an honest look of the making of the movie, and it's like a world class satirical mockumentary except it's real.

it's jar jar. there's more jar jar than I remember and he's both annoying and unintelligible for the entire movie.

Trying to force C-3P0 and R2-D2 into it. Try to imagine the scene where they present R2-D2 to Queen Amidala (and have the real Padme clean it) with some random droid instead of one we knew from the original trilogy.

The times that Anikin is on screen
The times that Jar Jar is on screen
The overt racist caricatures
The Gillette ladies razor communicators
The term "chance cube"

You take that back. R2 is the true hero of the Star Wars that it started back on Naboo by saving both Padme and Anakin in 2 entirely different scenarios.

Thanks to that documentary, I'm of the opinion that George Lucas himself is the most interesting character to come out of the Prequel Trilogy. "I may have gone too far in a few places," "Jar Jar is the key to all of this," etc. No dialogue in all three prequel films compares to that shit, and the documentary humanizes George in a way he was unable to do with any character in his movies.

Anakin should have been more Damian from The Omen and less whatever we got. Anakin, in a tense moment, uses the dark side to win causing Sebulba to send 10 podcracers crashing into the stands, killing and maiming hundreds.
Followed by the exact same Yippee as the post above yours upon victory. 😁

Okay, sure, they did make the most of putting R2-D2 in the prequels. I will say that.
My one gripe is when R2 kills the super battle droids with oil and fire.

I've been warming up to the thought that PM is the most redeemable of the prequels. It looks the best and is just overall more pointless and irrelevant than offensively terrible as the other two.

The trade embargo and intergalactic government relations parts are easily the worst. So jarring, confusing, and contrived.

Leaving Shmi to live her life as a slave.

And Greedo's racist as fuck depiction is a very close second.

it’s just a really boring movie in general. The first two prequels are NyQuil in movie form.

the racist and antisemitic shit doesn’t help either
