Balthier - Final Fantasy XII

He isn't my favorite character ever by any means, but I genuinely believe his design is flawless.

Hard to choose. I'll abide by the rules and only post one:
Lucca_CTDS.png

Lucca's personality is perfectly expressed by her design. You can instantly gather that she's mechanically-inclined and intelligent, while also looking curious and adventurous. It has just enough of a Steampunk feel to it without actually lumping it in with Steampunk.

Frog and Alucard were already posted, so I'm gonna get esoteric and go for Pang Tong from Dynasty Warriors 5

Pang.Tong.full.258170.jpg

There are a lot of DW designs I like a lot, but I went with my favorite diminutive, cheeky sage. I like how flush and flowing everything is here. In the other games, I sometimes think they go a bit too far with his headpiece.

Anyway 4, 5, and 9 generally have my favorite designs for the cast. I dunno how they keep up the quality with so many characters. The character design often sticks out from the more lackluster aspects of the games' art.

for sure. Cloud is simply the defacto hero design. Everything about his pose, colors, etc. It's so good and was clearly the mold for future JRPGs or videogames in general.

Exactly. The overall silhouette of the buster sword with Cloud's slim body and overall simple clothes...

Perfection.

It would even work in 16-32 bit era pixel art. Nomura was really on to something back in 96-97

I probably wouldn't bill it as my "all time favorite," but the first character that sprung to mind is Morgana.

That round head, use of black/white, having a "mask" that blends in with the fur, the smattering of yellow... just sublime.

I've also always loved Kazooie's design. Simple, but great use of red/yellow:

I didn't truly appreciate FFXII until Baltheir's background was revealed. There were so many hints but they were of the sort you'd normally take for granted in a video game. Like, why does Baltheir speak the way that he does? Why does he look so distinct? Oh, it's because he's supposed to be the swarthy and cool guy of the party. And then it's like, no, it's because of who he was. Where he was from. The life he lived. The culture that he was born into. The position that he once held. He's not the only person who looks or speaks the way that he does, and the people who do are people like him who are living the life he once lived. And that's when I realized that that same level of care went into every single character in the game, and I was floored. Masterful localization, one of the best there ever was, and Baltheir was the key that made me realize it

I've always been in love with this guy.

( I'd still love for the next 2D Mario adventure to adopt this style, it's completely possible with today's rendering technology to achieve this look with 3D).

See?

I'll have some thinking to do over the day to come up with a singular answer.

Ultra Sun Ultra Moon Protagonist

Ultra_Sun_Ultra_Moon_Protagonist_female.png

Honestly it's pretty striking how much better female Pokémon player-characters seem to be designed compared to their male counterparts, I think the only generations that were equal for me were Red/Blue/Green (counting the Fire and Leaf remakes) and Black and White and Black and White 2.

Mario
Simple, perfect mickey mouse like design.

In a more modern case i really loved what the caharacter artists did with the majority of characters there. Really nice and clean designs with lots of charisma that are actually the ones that sustains the game. They made me buy a multiplayer game just vecause they looked so good.

Full body robe Black Mage:

They're all great, from FFT to Vivi, but I'm not a huge fan of their striped pants compared to the full robe. It's just so cute, cool, and timeless.

I'm really find of Earthworm Jim. The level of absurdism mixed with standard comic book fare is a perfect balance.

Weltall from Xenogears has always had a special place in my heart. The connection with Fei and how it transformed along with his alter ego was so memorable.

Tough call. If I was forced to choose, the Nanosuit 2 would probably get my vote:

The predominantly carbon nanotube framework of the suit, rather than some explicitly metal component, gives it a fairly unique look among other sci-fi power suits. The red visor looks good on it, too.

Can't decide between Mario in Tanooki Suit (SMB3) and Ryu (in general).

So today it's Mario in his Tanooki Suit.
Ask me again tomorrow and it will be Ryu

Ciri and 2B, not going to post pics because they both look so much more mesmerising in motion. Also guilty of whatever insinuations you want to throw at me. I don't care :D.
