Sure, I have a lot more favorite movies but by "perfect", I was thinking of the ones that feel perfectly cohesive and complete, where adding or subtracting anything would disrupt the film, where every element felt exactly how and where it needed to beObviously there is a difference between perfect and favorite, but for the purpose of this thread, I have five perfect movies:
Rocky
Back to the Future
Empire Strikes Back
Godfather 1
Godfather 2
There's only 3 movies I'd call perfect. Titanic, Blade Runner 2049, and Das Boot.
It's really hard to narrow it down to one, but if there's one that I feel absolutely doesn't miss a single note, it would be Road to Perdition.
- direction
- cinematography
- acting
- score
- editing
That's a criminally underappreciated film.
I remember seeing it in the theater and noting that many people in the audience clearly weren't happy seeing Tom Hanks as a cold-blooded killer.
Yeah that seems to have been a common complaint, that Hanks was "mis-cast." But if you actually judge his performance on its own merits - which seems to be kind of tough for some given how prevalent he is - he does an outstanding job.
But the entire cast - particularly the main son - is absolutely wonderful.
Films like Con Air come to mind when I think of cinematic perfection.
None. There is no movie I don't have at least some minor criticism of, no matter how much I love it. Loving something doesn't mean ignoring its flaws.
Obviously there is a difference between perfect and favorite, but for the purpose of this thread, I have five perfect movies:
Rocky
Back to the Future
Empire Strikes Back
Godfather 1
Godfather 2
Lawrence of Arabia
Not a single thing I would change.
Perfectly written, casted, filmed, edited, scored; the list goes on.
