With many of us still stuck at home for the foreseeable future and dating basically being no bueno, a lot of people's sexual needs must have been going unfulfilled for months. To the point that the Dutch government have advised people to find a sex buddy. Inevitably, a good chunk of those folks will turn to porn, which is by no means an unpopular media to consume even in non-social distancing times.

Some feminist schools of thought have denounced what they believe are the harmful side-effects of porn to women and behaviorists have also argued that, when consumed in excess, porn may also fuck up your brain chemistry in unexpected ways. Obviously none of this is hard evidence but should be perhaps taken into consideration when regarding the matter. So I'll ask the community here what are your views on porn and maybe about your porn viewing (acting?) habits.

I mean, porn is a wide ranging terms, it's all about the content itself, not porn as a whole

now mainstream porn these days is literally like 50% incest shit and that's just weird, and I kinda blame GoT for it.

Watching footage of people engaged in consensual sexual acts isn't an issue.

It's when you involve capitalism, patriarchy and other externalities that you run into problems with porn as it is mostly presented to us, and how we consume it.

I like big-tit MILFs, massage scenes and well shot DP scenes where the goal isn't to give the actor a prolapsed anus.

back in my day we had to go to a family owned movie rental business and find the secret room in the back, usually via a beaded curtain. No words were spoken as i made my selections and handed my cash to the cashier. Just an understanding.

Nowadays you can get that shit anywhere, on your phone, tablet, switch, etc. it's ridiculous

and it's awesome. So enjoy it. Just don't hurt anyone.

Porn is a very important piece of culture, especially on the internet, and in the context of fan communities and art in general. It is so ubiquitous that I struggle to think of what the modern internet, including innocuous things like fandom and public internet spaces, would be like without it.

Hardcore pornography tends to warp a lot of the views of people I know just, like, in general, which is fine if that's your choice of, say, subculture and you're making something productive out of it (which many people do). But I feel like it's better (and this is just my opinion, not a mark on any one's own stance) to just not touch any of that unless, well, for instance, you're a guy who really can't afford the imagination atm and ya need to beat off to whatever-schmatever before you head out on your date, lol. But porn consumption is also oft used as a coping mechanism and/or a way to kill off time for a lot of people, particularly men, which, without moderation, can lead to some dissonance in the average well-meaning lad. In general, as with anything, just know what you're doin'.

The industry itself varies from being a celebration of human sexuality, self-actualization, and freedom, to a complete clusterf*ck of manipulation, drugged up assets, and legal ambiguities abound, to the embodiment of the cultural id while also steering it in ways that have no regard for how an industry can portray certain archetypes of people and mollify it into the public consciousness. It's a feedback loop, ya know.

On that note, erotic works of art are basically the groundwork for near everything in classic aestheticism, snicker-snicker.

I like and enjoy porn. Many enjoy filming it. Me and my wife watch occasionally together though I tend to watch more alone when I want to help get myself to sleep, though to be honest erotic fiction often scratches the itch in similar if not better ways.

As said above, it's about moderation. The voyeuristic community will always exist in this fashion. I liken it to my relationship with alcohol - I dip in and out of it to unwind, but if I started to depend on it, I'd take a step back.

Amateur porn, basically. Sites like Pornhub are filled to the brim with "amateur porn", which you can honestly classify as "indie porn" at this point. People are making bank on that, so capitalism is already in.

The good old times.

But there's a lot of extremely upsetting porn out there and even with some vanilla stuff I'm often left wondering how would any actor enjoy filming that. It's a pretty infamous industry for exploiting people.

More harmful than most people are willing to admit, at least in its modern extremely accessible for everyone at all times form.

Also hastened the deterioration of any good threads on /vg/

That article about the harmful side-effects was originally published by Fox News, so I wouldn't put too much stock in it.

Modern pornography direct from the performers is an actually pretty interesting development. OnlyFans and personal websites and the like give content creators full control, and the quality is only limited by their imagination and personal resources.

As to the industry as a whole, there will be good and bad aspects to it like any other organization.

Porn is fine, but on top of some issues already raised, the industry has a tendency to present porn in a very specific way due to a lack of diversity in the people at the top of the food chain. That I can definitely see as a problem.

It should be in full control and financial benefit to the participants.

This post makes me think of "porn co-ops" and just became a fundamentally interesting curiosity. Like what the industry would look like if it actually started this way.

I've found it to be less exploitative on the whole, which makes me appreciate it a lot better. And you'll see things there that you wouldn't in studio productions. I know it's really opened up possibilities for PoC performers in gay porn, many of whom were shut out of the studio model for some... *ahem* pretty obvious reasons. And them being able to pick their partners to perform with just seems to make it better overall.

Not a fan of porn, as I can't get over the fakeness and the bad acting. I prefer story sites like Literotica.

I can't watch "real" porn anymore, especially after i found out how it's made, just feel bad whenever i see those Videos.

Nowadays all my porn consumption is ethically sourced hentai, patreon and onlyfans content

This is how I feel about it. I hate that many people cast it aside or ignore it's influence (and the people involved in making it) because of whatever taboos we're raised with.

Yeah, but nothing beats stories. You get powerful search and filtering controls that allow you to find exactly what you're looking for. And you don't need headphones. And there aren't any consent issues to trouble your conscience. (Are all the parties consenting? Or is this revenge porn? Maybe one of the people in the video doesn't know that this is online? What if the person in the video consented then, but now wants it gone from the internet?)

I know, people will say I'm overthinking porn. But I can only watch something when I know that there's complete consent. There was this time a few years ago when the nude pics of many high profile actresses leaked on the net. And everyone I knew had seen them. But I haven't, for the simple reason that that's disgusting and wrong. It's a violation of the person's bodily autonomy.

Stories don't have any of these issues. And I have an active imagination, so it works out.

I kinda get what you mean. I've seen some good stories in porn though. And there's some really good erotica out there

Gosh, the memories.

I worked part-time at a video store (DVDs) when i was in college and we had the porn movies on a small corner in a binder with all the covers, it was like that because that made it easier to see if there are kids messing around and stuff, but if you have an adult person you can't really say much.

We had two different guys that went there (they usually pick some other movie) but always took a look on the porn binder. One of them always eating a cake, every morning, just browsing the porn binder eating is cake ahahahah. The other dude i had to put an end to it because, basically, started drooling and mean drooling while watching the binder and there were some kids from highschool (female) browsing the rest of the store and he clearly had an erection....

Porn is fine in moderation, if you watch to much of it you might develop fantasies that you'll never fullfill which will make your sex life and your partner's sex life a living hell.
