Many people have really toxic views on it, such as the widely accepted belief that any kind of pornographic content should be free, because it isn't a "real job". Loads of people also think that performers will just fuck anyone and anything at any given chance, just because they do it on camera for money. Also, while many people in the industry are actually really great people, it's also full of shitty people who both emotionally and physically abuse their fellow performers.

I do use porn occasionally to get off. And I have no qualms with it being produced. I personally enjoy amateur porn better though. Feel like the enjoyment/pleasure is more authentic. Also the women are usually more my type than the usual porn look.

It's more harmful than people want to admit, especially given the extremely young age most are exposed to porn in the last decade or so till now. The industry is also incredibly exploitative and under regulated.

In theory it is fine, in practice it can be a very negative thing. But I say this as a recovering porn addict and as someone who's exposure to and interest in porn and online porn communities at a young age led directly into me being sexually abused by online predators so I have a pretty biased view. Porn may not be bad in every instance, but it was very bad for me.

It has its place, as long as no one is getting hurt, it's probably fine. We of course know that isn't always the case sadly.

As long as the performers and crew aren't being exploited, not being put in harm's way, and it's not promoting bigoted stereotypes, it's amazing.

The demonization of sex, and of people being in touch with their sensual self, physically and mentally, is a huge factor in the many ways our society is fucked up, particularly in terms of treatment of women, the LGBT+ community, and racial minorities. It's also a huge component of toxic masculinity. Sadly a lot of porn only intensifies these failings as it was (and still is, to a lesser degree) largely run by people with power (straight, white men) who used it to exploit others for personal gain. Thankfully porn is becoming a lot more accessible and progressive, but there's still a long way to go.

As funny as it was, the All Gas No Brakes AVN Expo episode was some eye opening shit when it comes to the exploitation aspect of the industry.

Edit: If I remember correctly he asked a performer how she got there and she said "Rent! I needed rent!"

Porn itself is fine, the industry is problematic. It chews up and spits out young, impressionable women who don't fully understand how it will impact them.
What's interesting however is that women (and men I guess) now have more options for cutting out the agencies all together and releasing, managing and profiting off their own content.

Yeah, but nothing beats stories. You get powerful search and filtering controls that allow you to find exactly what you're looking for. And you don't need headphones. And there aren't any consent issues to trouble your conscience. (Are all the parties consenting? Or is this revenge porn? Maybe one of the people in the video doesn't know that this is online? What if the person in the video consented then, but now wants it gone from the internet?)

I know, people will say I'm overthinking porn. But I can only watch something when I know that there's complete consent. There was this time a few years ago when the nude pics of many high profile actresses leaked on the net. And everyone I knew had seen them. But I haven't, for the simple reason that that's disgusting and wrong. It's a violation of the person's bodily autonomy.

Stories don't have any of these issues. And I have an active imagination, so it works out.
I completely agree. I can only enjoy amateur porn when i think the people involved are really enjoying it. And i agree about Literotica.
I also hate browsing through pornhub thumbnails and having to deal with a lot of boner killing images of all kind.

I mean, porn is a wide ranging terms, it's all about the content itself, not porn as a whole

now mainstream porn these days is literally like 50% incest shit and that's just weird, and I kinda blame GoT for it.
Yeah, completely agree. Mainstream porn these days seems to specifically target the 12 to 16 yo weird male fantasy demographic. And I think it's having a collective affect on the next generation of young men. I fully believe it ties into the incel mindset.

Porn is great, but much of the porn that is produced is really terrible and off-putting for me. Much of the western porn focuses so much around the guy's dick and penetration that it's really rigid (lol) and not how real people fuck. They seem to focus more on having an angle where the camera sees the penetration perfectly rather than the sex itself. Meanwhile, Japanese porn is just, well... No need to say anything else.

So, finding good porn is a struggle sometimes. At least there's now well produced homemade porn made by people who actually like fucking each other.

With many of us still stuck at home for the foreseeable future and dating basically being no bueno, a lot of people's sexual needs must have been going unfulfilled for months. To the point that the Dutch government have advised people to find a sex buddy. Inevitably, a good chunk of those folks will turn to porn, which is by no means an unpopular media to consume even in non-social distancing times.

Some feminist schools of thought have denounced what they believe are the harmful side-effects of porn to women and behaviorists have also argued that, when consumed in excess, porn may also fuck up your brain chemistry in unexpected ways. Obviously none of this is hard evidence but should be perhaps taken into consideration when regarding the matter. So I'll ask the community here what are your views on porn and maybe about your porn viewing (acting?) habits.
Porn is normal and healthy in moderation, just as masturbation is. You do have a strand of sex worker exclusionary feminists but they aren't all of feminism.

As someone 'in the business' sort of speaking (always sounds like bragging, however you frame it), I'm particularly happy with the possibility for normal people to be able to make their own content. But, unfortunately with the unlimited access of porn we have today, it has not become more excepted to actually be a part of it.
Which has had the nefarious side effect that a crazy amount of girls try amateur porn, get cast aside after a few shoots and then end up as outcast of society. Particularly in Japan this is a big problem.

Not traditional porn but I read hentai doujin and look at hentai art on a daily basis, most of the time actually just looking at it without really doing anything. It's become a habit at this point, just like checking Twitter or reading this forum.

Have no problem with sex scenes in movies etc, but porn is so overdone.

back in my day we had to go to a family owned movie rental business and find the secret room in the back, usually via a beaded curtain. No words were spoken as i made my selections and handed my cash to the cashier. Just an understanding.

Nowadays you can get that shit anywhere, on your phone, tablet, switch, etc. it's ridiculous

and it's awesome. So enjoy it. Just don't hurt anyone.

I appreciate your integrity in actually handing over your porn selection personally to the cashier for purchase. I worked once at an entertainment/media store that also carried some adult vids. No one ever handed me a porn DVD for check out, but I would regularly find some emptied porn DVD cases hidden away somewhere in the store. Somebody had harvested the smut, left the husk and snuck off. Cowardly wankers.

Porn is good. Many aspects of the porn industry, as a capitalist industry, are bad.

Pretty much.

I wish there wasn't such a stigma with the industry of sex. It just drives it in to weird places, and exposes the most vulnerable. If we could all just be adults, and not treat people who have worked in the sex trade as animals, porn would be in a much better place.

I find a lot of porn boring and unstimulating, not least because loads of it is shot in the same beige or white rooms with bad lighting and direction. The movement towards amateur porn isn't much of a remedy in that sense, because while you may get more engaged performers you get even worse production values.

It's fine when viewed in moderation.
Porn addiction and the effects of it are very real and doesn't get talked about much.

Regular porn consumption from a young age can definitely be very harmful. There are plenty of adolescent men out there with erectile dysfunction, who can only get off to specific porn. It also warps people's views of what real sex should be like.

Masturbation does not equal porn.
Technically you are right. I just have never watched porn for entertainment value. With OP concerns hopefully people stay healthy and are regularly tested. I think it takes a special kind of person to work in that field. But now and days with cell phone camera etc so many people want to be porn stars without being porn stars if you know what I mean.

What? There's no "technically" involved. Porn wasn't a thing for 99% of human history, particularly porn in it's current form, where literally anything you could imagine is available to pretty much anyone with a phone in a matter of seconds, has only been around for ~15 years. And there has been a multitude of studies that suggest it's full of negative effects.

Its ok in moderation, but a lot of porn out there turns me completely off.
