I just finished Berseria as my first tales game and I'm debating on doing Zestiria as well or just trying to avoid burnout before Arise.

Plodding through Vesperia now. If not for Judith I would have thrown the towel. Have also made use of the DLC items to make the fights go a bit faster. Thankfully the story is picking up around the 18(!)hr mark.

Have also resumed playing FF15, getting chocobos made it 10% better but still a massive chore with some the quests(goddamn frogs). Fishing on the other hand is the best thing about the game.

I just finished DQXI a week or two ago. My first Dragon Quest, and an excellent RPG. Really enjoyed the cast and the wonderful translation, even if the game was maybe a little too long for me. Still got a good chunk of side quests wrapped!

I was impressed enough that I was going to go right into some other DQ, but with the FFVIII Remaster seemingly coming in hot, I'm gonna wait and see.

I think I'm at the final dungeon for Cold Steel 2. I've been enjoying it so far; better pacing than CS1. Hopefully CS3 gets a PC release date sooner rather than later (and Geofront releases their Zero no Kiseki translation).

After CS2, I'll probably continue my very casual playthrough of Octopath Traveler until DQ11 S.

Two misc things:

RPGFan is (currently) (and for the next couple weeks) streaming the Geo Front translation of Zero no Kiseki for those who wanna see it in action (I'm so blue they've passed on bringing this overseas still). Good prep for CS3 I hear.

EDIT: Also a good time to post the Reddit link that teaches you how to legally buy the game.

Also Super Groupies has been featuring a lot of cool JRPG (and anime) product lines for those who want gamer gear that ...at least tries to be kinda chic. :P

Finished my first Japanese playthrough of Soul Blazer a couple days back.
It's so bare-bones I don't know that there was much to gain from replaying it in Japanese, but the game itself was still enjoyable, if very simple.

I have a gauntlet of biz trips now (at gamescom as I type this!), so I'm going handheld. I brought my 3DS with me, so I might either put some more time into Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon or start Order of Ecclesia.

Working on Final Fantasy XII on PS4. I finally beat King Bomb after it taking the better part of last night. Made it to Phon Coast and called it a night. Judging by the walkthough I've used I think I'm getting close to the end.

Close to the end of Chrono Trigger.

I have two options:

1. Do the final two remaining sidequests (looking for someone important in trouble and help Fiona revive the forest).
2. Forget about the two sidequests and just go for the Black Omen and I'm guessing then into the final boss fight after that.

I've gotten this far playing blind so I'd rather do the two sidequests without looking them up but at the same time I'm at a bit of a loss on how to complete them. Feels like I've been all over the place in each time period.

Gonna wander around some more I guess after taking a break -_-

Nowhere near the end. Phon Coast is about the halfway mark. Also enjoy one of my favorite areas with one of the best themes in the game. I always have extremely fond memories of it due to the demo packaged with DQ8.

Anyway I finished the DQ11 S demo and can't wait for the full game. In the meantime, I think it's about high time I finish Dragon Quest Heroes 2, a huge shame that I haven't as I enjoyed it more than the first in many respects.

The line about someone important being in trouble is an infamous mistranslation and doesn't actually refer to an existing quest.
It was supposed to mean something more along the lines of "your friends can tell you more about who's in trouble."

What?! It's not a quest?!

Not sure if I should laugh or cry, you have no idea how much time I've spent running around all over the damn place trying to find this person in trouble.

Thanks for the heads up man.

If it's any consolation, you got to experience the exact same sense of confusion and frustration we all did back in the late nineties ;)

Fire Emblem Three Houses.

Yeah, I know, a strategy rpg, but whatever, it's still an rpg and it's Japanese. It counts in all the ways that matter IMO. Anyway, I thought the school theme would grate on me like it did in Valkyria Chronicles 2, but it's been fine. Having a good time. Totally shipping the player character with Dorothea.

Playing through Grandia 1 in the HD Collection right now. I'll probably try and balance that with Astral Chain, Grandia 2, and the DQXIS demo until that game actually releases.

On Grandia: I grew up playing PS1 JRPGs and still go back to them today regularly but for some reason this was a hole in my experience. I know there are some headaches about the filters and graphics, but it all looks alright to me. It's especially nice that its widescreen now. I think the only modern feature I miss are save states or something to save anywhere. That seems like a staple in most remasters that is strangely missing here.

I think the game really invokes the sense of adventure that the story is based on. You feel like you are heading into the unknown in the beginning. I can't put my finger on it though, but something seems off about the pacing. It's very linear so far in that your are constantly moving east to new location after new location and sometimes it's dungeon after dungeon. It wears on me a little when I play it for longer periods of time. I'll keep pushing and finish the game though. I think I'm close to half way now and excited to start 2 after.

There's also a chance you can't complete the Fiona sidequest if you didn't complete a small event correctly in 12,000BC:

In the middle of Oninaki, Tales of Vesperia, and Final Fantasy IX. I really need to stop splitting myself across multiple JRPGs....

I did, however, finish 100%ing Xenoblade 2 and the Torna DLC.

On my way to earning the platinum for Tales of Berseria with just the titles and level 200 grind remaining. I've enjoyed it but not as much as Vesperia, the combat is (somewhat) improved though. The screenshot / video capture block on PS4 has been quite annoying and difficult to justify when a PC version exists, I'd known about it but hoped they'd restore the function after x number of months post-release.

Despite Catherine and Code Vein releasing soon, I've been considering starting Tales of Zestiria for the lore connections with ToB. I guess I've done it backwards and should've started with ToZ, although I've already seen the anime. The disc is sitting here tempting me but I know it'll take me ages to complete it...

Zestiria is worse than Berseria in every way except for music and possibly the world/dungeons.

lmao I'd been warned by others before I bought it, and I've seen the game sitting close to the bottom on many Tales fans' lists. At least it was cheap.

I never finished the anime but what I had seen up until the first few episodes of S2 honestly made me think it was a better adaptation than the game.

Oh no. I thought the anime was middling and unremarkable; the overall story was fine but certain characters really lacked development.

In another Era thread, I saw Mikleo rated highly as a fan favourite but the show paints him as a sidekick or tag-along who serves as punchline fodder. Symonne, the Storyteller and a few others were interesting enough but I think / hope the game serves as a better medium to flesh out their roles and backgrounds where the anime fell short.

I did appreciate the term "Lord of Calamity" more after watching it, having cringed when I first heard it in Berseria. Plus I didn't spot any characters more annoying than Moana / Kamoana, so it's got that going for it.

DQ11. I thought I was close to the end or at the very least, close to act 3 seeing that I'm at 107 hours already but, from what I've read and looking through the trophy list, I'm not even close! Not that I mind. The game is fantastic!

In case you just want to know what to do straight up.

1. You have to talk to a woman in Zeal Palace who has the sapling and tell her to raise it in secret. You can talk to this same woman again in the Commons if you didn't previously before progressing the plot.

2. You go to Fiona's Villa (near Dorino) in 600 AD and get told about the monsters in the nearby desert that you have to kill.

3. Go to the Sunken Desert that is near the villa, clean out the area by defeating the boss.

4. Talk to Fiona with Robo in your party. He will stay behind to restore the forest.

5. Warp to 1000 AD, then go to where Fiona's villa was which is now a shrine. You will get Robo back and have some cutscenes/dialogue.

You should also save before you go pick up Robo because at the end of the sidequest there is a bit that you can mess up, it doesn't affect anything in terms of your reward at the end but you might want to try and get the best result.

Thanks very much but I've gotten this far without looking anything up so want to try to persevere, since this is the last quest left before the finale :)

EDIT: Out of curiosity, is it the kind of quest that people usually look up (with weirdo requirements etc.)? Or am I just missing something obvious?

Just have this quest and the final boss left now.

Finished Chapter 2 of Trails in the Sky SC and I swear these games make no sense in terms of difficulty lol. Prologue boss was tough as nails. Chapter 1 started kinda rough until I got a few levels, but all the bosses were easy. Chapter 2 had a bizarrely difficult mid-boss with those blue sheep things, but then the chapter boss was laughable. Just feels random.

Great game overall, though. Really does feel like the second half of the same game with how much is the same from the first game, but that's fine by me.

I'll catch up with this series someday.

After a little over 32 hours, I finished Jude's story in Tales of Xillia. I'm not planning on doing a Milla playthrough (I have too many other JRPGs to play right now, including several other Tales games, to replay a game with at least 90% the same content).

I'll get started on Tales of Xillia 2 as my next JRPG. Probably soonish.

Been making my way through Pokemon Ultra Sun one last time before Sword and Shield drop I'm probably a little over halfway done, also been playing Breath of Fire on Switch and been having fun with that too, just picked up my 6th party member.

Finished the main story of Heavensward. Onto the patch content (which honestly, I'm kinda not looking forward to). The middle part of the expansion story with Ysayle and Estinien butting heads was fantastic, but the Allagan continent stuff towards the end was a bit meh >.<

Also imported Ecsaform mostly because the art looks sick and it's a PS1 SRPG.

Will get around to that soonish. Have heard mostly middling things about it, but yeah.

Curious, because I skipped them, what is the deal with Sun/Moon and the Ultra games? It seems like the Ultra versions came out just about a year later. Are they major improvements with lots of extra content over the first games?

Also, I just personally started Yokai Watch 3...finally!

I remember trying the first game (I think when I still used Gamefly), and though I absolutely loved the presentation and overworld, the combat just didn't do it for me. But I think with this game I'm finally getting into it. And oh my goodness, it is adorable and funny! The girl character that you also play as in this one is just cute and hilarious as can be. The writing is really great so far!

Last week I bought the revised Switch model and now I finally started to play my physical copy of the Collection of Mana! Starting with Final Fantasy Adventure / Mystic Quest / Seiken Densetsu 1 it's pretty impressive what engaging games with action based combat were possible on the old Game Boy!

I needed a bit time to adjust to the quirks of an old Game Boy game, but it's pretty fun and aged pretty well in my opinion!

Persona 5. I've now played it for over 100 hours.
Casino Palace.
While it has been fun, the characters are not at the level of Persona 3 and 4, imo.
