I forget what it was, but I know it was in Mt Silver in my old Gold Version. I think it was a Rhydon? I remember I had no idea what it was and why it was like that. I don't think I caught it.

Lord what I would give for a shiny Nidoking tho. I'd transfer it to every game from now on.

A shiny Weedle from headbutting a tree in Ilex Forest in Silver. I also saw a Tangela on Mt. Silver but it ran away.

Played every Pokemon, but the latest one and I've never had a shiny (that weren't a freebie anyway). Feels bad man.

Not counting Gyarados? A shiny graveler on Victory Road in Heart Gold. I was sharing the game with my cousin while he was visiting (as in we took turns doing parts of the game) and he actually encountered it. HE was a little irritated I threw basically all of our poke balls and let it kill most of the team, but I couldn't pass up that chance. If i had known XY and SM would make shiny catching easier I probably wouldn't have gone all out for a graveler :p.

I was wandering around the grass near the Miltank farm in Silver looking for Raikou and a shiny Meowth popped out. Caught it too.

I've played every generation, and I've never seen an unscripted shiny. I did get Pokerus randomly in Sun though.

It's always interesting to me that some people still haven't experienced shiny's even after XY / ORAS / SM considering the higher chances and I randomly ran into like 3 each game.

My first shiny was a Gastly in Pokemon Diamond or Platinum, I don't remember. I was young, and I spent a lot of time in the Old Chateau: I thought there was a secret because of the NPC ghosts.

Found a shiny Clefairy on FireRed. I'd restarted the game for a long plane journey and there it was in Mt Moon. Only had one pokeball too, so I got pretty lucky.

It took until this year for me to find another in the wild (Roselia this time). And I've played a lot of pokemon.

I've been playing Pokemon for a long, long, long time...

My first shinies were a Durant and a Cubchoo in X/Y, found within like a day of one another.

I, uh, caught the Durant but then sorta turned off my 3DS without saving while walking to work a few hours later...

Not counting red Gyarados, I would say that the brown Machop is my first real encounter of a shiny Pokemon that I encountered in the wild, which happened back in one of the Generation 3 games. At this point I realised that any Pokemon can be a shiny, not just a few like that red Gyarados and potentially a gold Magikarp from that Gyarados.

In Pokemon Moon, the first shiny I encountered was a Smeargle when I was chaining for a Moody one, and caught it. Because it's male, I used it for breeding Egg moves since Smeargle is able to learn any move as long as you know who else learns the moves for it to copy.

Thank you for reading.

Geodude in Fire Red but I didn't use it because it was female and I couldn't reconcile to geodude actually being a girl.

Never got one outside red gyarados until X when I got a shiny sentret. Even though they lowered the extreme odds of finding them in gen 6, that was pretty exciting.

Shiny Krabby on the way to Lugia in Hgss. Shortly after that I got a shiny Magikarp.

A shiny Golbat in Gen 2 back when I was a kid and didn't know what a shiny was. I just noticed it was a different color and caught it. Years later, I learned that shiny Pokémon were a thing and it reminded me that I once caught a Pokémon like that.

A shiny Pichu in Pokemon Crystal from the egg that you're given near the start of the game (after the first gym). In fairness, that egg does have a higher chance for shinies.

Shiny Spearow in Pokemon Silver.

Think it was Route 22 in Kanto??

Named him Shiny and evolved it to a Fearow.

My first shiny Pokémon was Nidoran(m) from Pokémon Gold. Didn't know what I had and kept it in my PC until the endgame. When I needed to complete my Pokedex, I evolved it to Nidoking and thought it was strange and badass that it had Nidoqueen's colors.

I don't remember which of the games I was playing, but the first shiny I ran into in the wild was a HootHoot (I named him Andy Bell).

And then I soft reset HeartGold for 4 months until I got a Shiney Ho-Oh. I then promptly gave up on pokemon for a loooong time.

Shiny hunting is like...my favorite thing now. I remember ripping open this weird, sealed section in the back of one of the Gold/Silver strategy guides at release, and they talked about shiny Pokemon there. I was interested, but it never really fully computed. Got the shiny Gyarados, but that was it. When gen IV released and I found out about the PokeRadar in post-game, I was hooked and have been ever since. Currently playing through HeartGold using the Cute Charm exploit and it's a ton of fun.

Edit: I've only run into 2 "random" shinies in all of my time playing the Pokemon games. One was a Duskull in Ruby on GBA, and the other was a Beldum on Moon. Might have already had the Shiny Charm when I ran into the Beldum. Everything else has been something that I was hunting.

I remember the first one I encountered was a Sandshrew, which I killed.
Can't remember which one I actually caught first.

The Cute Charm exploit is great. I remember reading a RNG guide a few years ago that mentioned Cute Charm overriding the PID and thinking "hmm, this sounds hilariously abusable with the right trainer ID." The only game I had that I didn't mind restarting was Pearl, which wasn't great, but it was still amusing to occasionally run into two shinies at once in the escort sections!

Zigzagoon on the first route of Sapphire. Red Gyarados wasn't my technical first, either. I didn't get the memo to save before rare/legendary encounters until 3rd gen, so I KO'd all rare Pokemon except the last legendary you encounter post-game (typically level 70) which I caught with the Master Ball.

Literally been playing Pokémon since Red version and never encountered a single shiny Pokémon in the wild. My first legit shiny was a Dratini that I hatched back in X/Y.
