What were your thoughts on Princess and the Frog? (Spoilers, natch)

Did you think it was a good film? I thought it was pretty decent, I'm glad I watched it, well done in pretty much all aspects you'd want from a Disney movie.

I admit it though, the real draw was the fact that it was set in New Orleans. It's hard to assess how good of a portrayal it is since I'm not from New Orleans and I didn't grow up in the city in the 20s, but the level of respect they gave the city throughout filming makes me confident they did a decent job with the setting. I"m sure Disney probably didn't portray New Orleans perfectly, but it's a movie so you can't expect a completely accurate representation of a city as old and complex as New Orleans.

I think it was entertaining and very well animated and wish that it'd done better at the box office

Dr. Facilier is a top tier Disney villain

It's enjoyable. I think I also liked it a lot for its setting. Also Keith David playing the villain is very, VERY fun.

The animation was excellent and as others have said, Facilier is a damn good villain with a damn good song. It was otherwise kind of weak though, the protagonists had no chemistry and a lot of the gag side characters were kind of forgettable.

Really liked it, great setting, characters and songs.

Best of all though is the animation, didn't think I'd ever see it again like that, figured the little bit in Enchanted would be the last time. :'(

Sad the movie apparently didn't do too well/isn't very popular.

Felt a bit lower budget than previous 2D Disney movies (understandable), and the songs and story are not as good as the movies Disney made afterwards.

I fucking loved it. Top tier Disney movie, right next to Hercules and Mulan for me. Almost There was good stuff.

People are constantly telling her to let herself have some fun, but she is like "nah, I'm on a mission and am gonna achieve my dream." And then the crushing reality later when she is reminded that racism is a thing and lol hard work alone is not enough to achieve your dreams in this world.

Like others have said, wonderful animation and a top-tier Disney villain. I watched it 3 times in theaters and several of the songs are on my rotation of Disney songs.

Only thing I didn’t like was that the animation for the crazy friend was a lot better than that for Tiana but that’s a fairly minor thing.

IIRC it actually did decently ok but it was no Pixar/Frozen movie and since Disney would rather make 500-800+ million per movie than, like, 150-200 million, it was a death sentence to 2d animation.

Doesnt deserve the legacy it has as being responsible for killing 2D animation at Disney.

Facilier is amazing.

The actual plot I didn't really care for. I kind of wanted more, but I don't really know what exactly.

My daughter loved the movie and got to meet Tiana. Her taste is much better than mine anyway!

Dr. Facilier was such a fun character; probably the last patented ‘Disney villain’ they’ve had in a while.

The plot needed a few more revisions though, particularly in the middle of the movie with the swamp people. Just grinding the story to a halt.

Naveen is definitely in the top 5 of hottest Disney male leads. Although too bad he wasn’t human for most of the movie. 😒

It was fine. Dr. Facilier was the best character in the movie. That firefly was.... well he didn't need to be in the movie.
Wish it made more money.

The premise is so ridiculous. “My best friend is a rich ass princess but I have to work myself to death to raise money for a restaurant” just isn’t compelling to me.

I liked it best when they were not all animals, and I usually love animals.

Most of the movie is also the premise of becoming un-frog, but to your point, I think the premise is very Americana, following a entrepreneurial "American Dreamer" struggling to lay her foundation.

Great villain. BEST music in any modern Disney animated (only Jungle Book can contend with it).

This didn't kill 2D animation, the Winnie the Pooh movie did that (because the execs killed 2D animation by putting it up against Harry Potter with naff all advertising). Which is a damn shame because it has the best scene in animation ever:

I liked it quite a bit. It was a lot better than most of the animated Disney features shortly preceding it. The whole sandwiched section of the aughts period was just a drought of well-executed Disney (proper) films, and it hurts me endlessly that it killed off the traditionally animated Disney features.

I enjoyed the portion I watched and it gave me 90s vibes.

I'm annoyed the one movie in Africa refused to show Black people (Lion King) and we finally get a Black 2-D film character.... who turns into a different species for what I assume is going to be most of the film.

It has been a while though... was the message at the end that you can overcome institutionalized racism and wealth disparity through hypergamy? I've honestly forgotten, and the few details left in my head are adding up to that. Like, don't they unfrog at the end because the mystical and legally binding rites of frog marriage and magical curses recognize her as a princess?

It's not one of the best. Feels like a greatest hits type thing which pulls characters and moments from better Disney films.

I loved it. I think a lot of the criticism people have for this film is fair, but I really like the setting and it's probably one of my favourite Disney princess films.

A gorgeous movie with a fun villain that lets down its main characters with a scattershot story. Tiana starts the film wanting to start a restaurant, inspired by her father, but lacks the money to do so. The entire middle of the movie when Tiana and Naveen are frogs has basically nothing to do with this story but instead swerves to a love story with the central premise "Tiana is too serious all the time and needs to lighten up." This is weird on several levels. First off, she's a black woman in New Orleans in the 1920s who wants to start her own business. Being dedicated to that task is not a weakness. If anything, it's a virtue. So this whole second act is in a way disparaging the main character's noble goal. Second, there'd long been criticism of Disney princess movies for not giving the heroine a goal beyond finding a husband. The Princess and the Frog pretends it's going to be different, but then the middle is all about Tiana needing to chill out and fall in love with a goofball. It goes back to the idea of starting a restaurant at the very end, but she doesn't accomplish that due to anything she learned throughout the movie. She gets "Tiana's Place" because she married a guy who's family had money and because she had someone threaten the realtor with violence. The movie probably should have chosen either the restaurant story or the romance story, not tried to do both.

Tiana and Snow White and Jasmine and Kida are my four favorite princesses period. Loved this movie and I'm still mad that traditional 2D animation is still not back.
