They should do a post apocalypse waste land. 30 years in the future.

Can't get much more isolated than that

Whilst I agree that an abandoned theme park might be good, I think it's already been done to death in like a billion other games, unfortunately.
For a moment I thought an airport setting would be good, but it'd become very repetitive very fast. A "lunatic asylum" would probably be too much on the nose, but meeting actual survivors, only them to be crazy, could be interesting, in a silent hill 2 kind of way?

Here's an idea - how about a tech startup campus/center in a hip and happening area? Think parks and lounges and communal eating areas and table tennis tables and douchebag zombies and so on and so on. I'd love it.

I'm assuming we're only talking about mainline games since you only listed those and RE outbreak already did a lot of suggestions that people are listing. I'd love to see another attempt at a hotel or University/campus.

Or space. Let Chris Redfield punch an asteroid.

It's touching on Dead Rising territory, but: abandoned casino in the desert atop an Area-51-esque research facility.

I think a private University with dark secrets would be great.

Eh, I know a university has already been done but give a college the feel RE2make had and it would be a great RE game.

An abandoned private school in the English countryside from the 40's where eugenic studies were done in secret.

RE6 Prequel Manga and Stage Show did that.

I want it to go dead island.

Exclusive island resort that is about to be hit by a hurricane. Doesn't have to be enormous, but emphasizes replayability as certain locations get destroyed or built up by player choice.

You could go the route of the novel "The Troop". Main character is a Boy Scouts leader, and he's taking his troop out to an island for nature discovery and things go bad.

But I do love the idea of an amusement park. Also a cruise ship could be cool.
A very small tropical island, with a Mr X style antagonist keeping you in constant peril.

Also, a mall, because there should be a real continuation of the incredible Dead Rising ffs.

REV 2 Sequel Manga did that

im kinda shocked that there hasnt been a zombie game set in an empty theme park thats a rip off of disneyworld. Take the monorails between different themed parks, underground tunnels, first aid stations, restaurants, gift shops. Would be so amazing, my dream zombie game.
Also the really exclusive stuff like Disney World's Club 33, the behind the scenes areas, discontinued attractions that are under revamp, etc.

If they did it way in the past, I want the final boss to be just a zombie. One zombie that they created and you have almost nothing to fight it with.

I really enjoyed RE4's village, it's one of my favorite RE settings and would like to see them make an entire game based on a similar rural or suburban USA setting. It exudes a kind of subtle dark western feel which I really want to see for a future RE. Perhaps something inspired by No Country for Old Men.

Evil Within 2 does this with aplomb. What a great game.

A derelict Victorian-era mental asylum. Something like this, at night.

Or maybe an old orphanage on an incestuous British island (yes I'm thinking of Jersey).

Urban exploration videos provide many ideas btw :)

I haven't played it. Your post has me intrigued and I watched some more footage. But the over the top monster design, excess gore and the metaphysical undertones kind of ruin it for me. It sort looks like one of those torture porn films that I loath. I just want good old-fashioned slow zombies.

Still no game in japan with a school setting,Tall oaks uni was too short and kinda bad.
But what i want is another urban setting like Raccoon, returning to China would be nice if they do it right.
Kinda tired of isolated villages, mansions etc

I also really want them to go back to an abandoned Rockfort Island where perhaps BOWs have evolved and become part of the natural habitat of the island. Could be really great to see abandoned shacks and jungle, since it is supposed o be a South American island, and it would be good to see how BOWs "evolve" if left to their own devices, life finds a way....

Chernobyl or a proxy of it. A location that was closed off after a Bio outbreak and was left to mutate and decay for a decade would be cool too. Not all of the Umbrella, TRICELL and so on location can have exploded after all.
Truly decayed locations (Rev2 and RE7 come close), zombies and Akira style bio mutants would be the logical result and a visual treat. The canon additions of Umbrella Corps are less than ideal but those training locations could work if a proper writer explored them.
Edit: Fixed the font, I hope.

A lot of the suggestions in this thread have me convinced even more that going back to Raccoon City in the present day would be a good idea. It would contain abandoned/derelict versions of a lot of what's in this thread.

That missile probably didn't kill everything in there. There's room for lots of intrigue to see what the government or maybe someone else has been doing in there all this time.

I always thought an automotive plant would make a good setting. Having worked at GM some of the darker areas in the plant are creepy as fuck.

Are we counting Outbreak here? Because with that included it crosses off a lot of potential areas:

-A bar
-A subway system
-A hospital (twice over, even)
-A hotel
-A university
-A zoo
-A forest area

An office cmplex in a high rise building like Nakatomi. Imagine each foor is filled with zombies and monsters. There's also the risk of using either the elevator or the stairs. Elevator is faster and skips some floors but requires you to get a key from an unexplored section of the office. This key gets upgraded in gaining access to restricted floors. The stairs get you where you want to be but you have to go through each floor of stairs with each set of threats.
Office building in the middle of a city that would be very cool. Especially messing with day and night stuff. The city just doing it's thing while your stuck inside a horror house and the rest of the world is none the wiser would be amazing.

I haven't read the thread, but I'm going to say a few off the top of my head. I'm sure most have been mentioned already, but just my thoughts. A few of these they've lightly dabbled in but think there's still a lot of untapped potential.

-A school. RE6 and Outbreak File #1 both have schools in them, but they kinda' just feel like misc buildings. I feel they haven't really fully delved into that possibility yet of having a central school setting.
-A jungle. There's a kinda' jungle chapter in RE5 and there's a jungle flavoring to the Operation Javier story in Darkside Chronicles, but I feel a lush jungle with monsters in it has some serious potential, even Predator influence, yet it's been mostly untapped by the series.
-A submarine. Gaiden was set in one through part of the game but that was a Gameboy game, and RE6 has a submarine for Ada's Chapter 1, but so much untapped potential there.
-Snowy places. There's been snowy places in RE, namely Code Veronica and Jake's Chapter 2 in RE6, but again it's been hugely untapped by them. Be it on a snowy mountain or a snowed-in facility. Hell, a snowy mansion itself could even be an interesting spin on what they usually do.
-Himalayan temples. This is a very specific one, but one I've always wanted to see them do.
-Mall. This one is a bit shocking they've never done on account of the huge "of the Dead" influence the series has. While it could possibly be stepping on Dead Rising's toes, the Resident Evil series has never actually done a mall type setting within it's games.
-Hospital. There was a hospital in Resident Evil 3 for a brief sequence and in Outbreak File #1, but this is actually another mostly untapped setting by the series despite being a horror trope location and one that makes almost too much sense with the virus outbreak theme the series has.
-Amusement Park. I would love to see an abandoned amusement park in a Resident Evil game, but they haven't done it yet.
-Aquarium. I'd love to see a RE game's take on an aquarium type setting. I think there's a lot of potential there.
-A Desert. Now RE5 was set in Africa near deserts, but outside of a turret sequence you never really spend it in a desert. There's not actually a RE game that's just... set in a barren desert or an isolated setting within a desert. There's good isolated potential there, it's just the series has never really tapped into it.
-Summer Camp. I want to see the RE series tackle this famous horror setting at some point.
-Motel. There's kinda' a motel in Outbreak File #1, but hotels and motels are still pretty much unused within the series, and I feel how they're laid-out could be an interesting take for the series. Funnily enough Dead Aim's boat felt more like a hotel at times than Outbreak's Hotel did, with different passenger rooms to visit.
-Zoo. Again, Outbreak had a Zoo setting in File #2, but I want to see them tackle a zoo again, there's so much potential there.
-Japan: Do it Capcom, I know you want to.
-Australia: It's basically already an island of dangerous monsters, I'd take an outback setting RE with interesting B.O.W.s.

I'm sure I could think of more, but a few off the top. The series sometimes spends a bit too much time in mansions and boats that it doesn't try so many possibilities (funnily enough despite how many boats the series has had, I feel they still have untapped potential for boat settings, but with as many attempts as they have I don't trust they'll ever fully tap into that potential).

The RE canon, I finished all the canon games and the anime/manga stuff, isn´t worth it getting into but the RE3 nuke was retconned into multiple cruise missiles (i think) in the Outbreaks so you can theoretically walk the earth without melting your insides. Here is the ending:

The US military is doing spooky testing in the ruins that went on for 2 decades. How come we never followed this Capcom? The new Red Umbrella division would be all over this. RE7 and the first anime film also state that the survivors face a strong social stigma. The same has to hold true for the military personnel on-site. Peak villian material right there. (Rev 1 had a similar idea that fails due to the endless rewrites.)

Dusk Golem´s jungle RE technically exists, outside the other stuff, due to the 2nd manga "Heavenly Island". It's a shounen survival adventure with strong ecchi elements... Peak 7th gen Crapcom story nonsense right there! It´s one somewhat legit idea was the vodoo zombie stuff. Thank Zodd for the soft reboot due to RE7 and the return of Capgod.

I love Heavenly Island and kinda' wish is was a game (dropping the fanserviey creepy cameraman protag and the bikini survival contest context which was completely unneeded though). I already wanted a jungle RE before that, but Heavenly Island doubled that I'd like a playable game with a setting like that in the series.

Gonna go with Abandoned Mine. That could be neat.

Though I wouldn't mind a whole variety of places...doggonit give us another Resident Evil Outbreak, Capcom!

(I'd settle for a remake / remaster, too).

My thoughts exactly.

Also would've liked the locations that Outbreak File #3 was rumored to include:

  • A Day in Raccoon: This was a hotel owned by Mickey.
  • Raccoon Pier: This likely involved Clint and survivors leaving through a pier / port.
  • U.S.S.: A scenario in which the U.S.S. Alpha team (including HUNK) are involved was more likely in-dev, evident by the leftover NPC characters and the enemy G-Birkin model, which is also seen in an early trailer for Resident Evil: Online Along with screenshots of U.S.S. Alpha team in action.
  • U.B.C.S.: The U.B.C.S. also had a role as NPCs in the story here where Survivors would meet with them at some point, some Resident Evil 3 locations were likely to be seen as seen in old Media images and videos, such as the outside front area of Raccoon General Hospital that links to the Clock Tower and Raccoon Park which is assumed to have been explorable in a certain scenario when the game was still known as RE: Online (Biohazard Network). It either evolved and became The Hive or it was another scenario that's likely shelved.[citation needed]
  • Raccoon High School : Although unconfirmed, This location is presumed/rumored to have been part of the cut-out content and may have involved Mary as an NPC Survivor (seen in screenshots/early media).

While the snowy setting has been explored in the franchise(in brief moments it felt like), I think I would like to be explored much more to the point enemies are affected by it and certain game mechanics involve it somehow.
