Basically the title. Tell me your favourite Elder Scrolls race, and why you like them, be it for lore or design purposes.

I'd prefer this to be about the main mortal races on Tamriel, but if you want to answer with the Daedra, Aedra, or any other miscellaneous deities, go right ahead!

My favourites are the Dark Elves. Their history and lore is so long, detailed, and varied, from their worship of the Tribunal conflicting with the original worship of the Daedra, to their beautiful yet grim culture and Great Houses, and their eventual comeuppance and humbling from the Argonians for so many years of slavery before Skyrim (although it's hard to argue that they deserved the complete destruction of Vvardenfell as well).

Speaking of Argonians, they're my second favourite. It's nice that they're getting more appreciation as the badasses they are.

Sorry About that! But there is a slight difference. You can cite non-playable races in this thread. Also, your favourite race in the series doesn't necessarily mean it's also your favourite race to play as. Still, sorry anyways.

Yeah no worries, I said similar rather than exact. Just pointing to some earlier discussion if you wanted to hear some more opinions, though not necessarily in the exact same vein as the question.

I really like the Dunmer, Argonians and Khajit. They add a great deal of texture to the lore. I've never played 'em, but I really like 'em.

Khajit
  • some great catch phrases
  • skooma and moon sugar
  • usually makes the best stealth-warrior-mage
  • doesn't look human so you can't see how terrible the character models are as easily

For me it's which one I dislike the least and based on the character I'm going for. Prob Brentons for magical resistance.

I'm not sure on favorite, but I feel I'm statistically inclined to Dunmer and Argonian, shortly followed by Bretons and Redguards... I should play more Khajiit.

I usually play a wood elf, but I like Argonians and Khajeet just for being so different. Dark Elves are also cool, and it's interesting to see High Elves represented as fairly terrible in a high fantasy setting.

Favorite would be Nords or redguards probably.

After that, dark elves.

Least favorite would be argonians. I just think they look dumb and they never fit the environment you see them in. Their race skill in skyrim is bad too. Maybe if we get to go to black marsh someday I'll like them more.

The next ES game should do a better job of having different races represent their species more. I'm talking about ESO style clothing armor and item styles. Seeing argonians walking around in the same clothes the nords are wearing is just strange.

Argonians and khajits in general should animate and dress differently than the basic humans. Right now they're basically just humans with animal heads. How cool would it be to see argonians climbing on walls and dropping down from ceilings or watching khajit get down on all fours and run at incredible speeds?

Dunmer. Most interesting land and culture. It all feels very well thought out, how Morrowind's economy works, what they eat, how they build, etc. And they're not a monoculture. There are traditional Dunmer and then there are those with modern Dunmer culture, and then you got the variations within (Empire-leaning Hlaalu and magocracy Telvanni). And their history! Few races in fantasy works seem to have much history, yet alone as elaborate as the Chimer and then Dunmer have. You can see how there has been cultural evolution, instead of things being static forever.

While i like latter Elder Scrolls games for their own reasons, neither Cyrodiil nor Skyrim feel as real and as interesting as Morrowind does. And the way the local culture is presented and shown is a very big deal in this.

My initial favorite was probably Argonian because the more human models in Morrowind looked like garbo.

Skyrim and (modded) Oblivion have really increased my appreciation for Dark Elves.

Dunmer. They make some of the best vampires with their +50% fire resistance.

And they make damn good mages too.

I always go Dunmar. Their fire resistance is the bees knees for oblivion gates and going up against fire breathing dragons and they make savvy mages to boot. Dark elf for life!

I have been making big cat man based on one of my cats and creating a backstory where my wife and I are murdered in a nuclear accident and my cat gets radiation poisoning and grows into a bipedal superhero set out to avenge us and find the person who caused the accident.

Imperial. I usually stick to human characters in any game that gives you a choice. Also, every province should be back under Imperial control.

Hey, my friend/roommate made one based on our cat! High five.

Dunmer. Given their treatment by the Nords in Windhelm it's no wonder I side with the Empire.

Breton is my favorite to play, but I find the Dunmer the most interesting lore-wise.
