She finally looks like she actually fits the premise of the game. And Capcom has been going ham with making their characters look more human than typical video game protagonists.
The RE Engine is the best thing that happened to Capcom since MT Framework. Just as efficient, can pull insane graphics at high framerates and they're using it for most of their IPs now.

I'm impatiently waiting for the day where we'll see Monster Hunter done on RE Engine. Maybe Street Fighter next gen. :o

lol

walks into the RPD looking like that in the middle of the zombie outbreak

her partner just died

everyone else in the station is dressed appropriately

"did it right"
Actually Jill was supposed to be flying out of Raccoon City before the shit hit the fan. I'm not saying it's a proper travel attire but she wasn't going to RPD dressed like that.

Show this image to anyone before the game reveal and ask them which video game character this is. They will say Lara Croft. What was distinguishing about Jill Valentine in RE3 is not there. Even something as simple as the jacket round the waist would have helped a lot. Nothing about the design of new Jill is memorable. She's literally 2013 Lara Croft.

lol okay looking at it from the female version of generic white guy angle, this is pretty funny.

Generic brunette white girl with exposed arms/shoulders? ehhh doesn't have the same ring to it

Jill looks bad, but not horrible. It's more her mug I'm dissatified with than the outfit. I'm looking forward to a potential PC release to mod her face and/or model as soon as the game drops.

I think she looks good. That previous outfit was always dumb and terrible but hey it’s there as a bonus for people who want it.

I always found Jill's clothes a bit silly given by that point martial law had been declared, there had been numerous squads of SWAT/paramilitary forces mowing down zombies in the streets, hospitals were totally overrun, etc.

Maybe tank tops and jeans are finding their way into a lot of games because that's what active women wear? Just a guess.

Well, to be fair, there isn't a great deal of design needed when your goal is photo realism...get actress, sort her wardrobe out. Done.
All this remake stuff does look nice but I miss my stylisation in video games...escapism and all that.
It's not just the photorealism but the clothing choices that don't sexualize or objectify the character that add to my appreciation of Jill's design. I appreciate that in my games, especially when you have so many games leveraging the female body as a tool to sell games. Here, Jill's form follows function and that's a breath of fresh air.

Well, aren't these renders? These are definitely not what the characters look like during actual gameplay. In gameplay, REMake 2 and ReMake 3 have DMC5 beat in terms of facial detail.

What was distinguishing about Jill was that she was a blatantly pandering character design made with a primarily straight male audience in mind. Which, considering the gaming industry's history with the character designs of women, right down to not even being able to design a giant spider as an actual giant spider.....

or a female predator without boob armor:

isn't that distinguishing.

Meanwhile, a very small selection of women in games wearing outfits that a physically active person would actually wear in that scenario is a rare thing.

These are CG renders and Jill's face, outfit, an body in this game all used the same tech as RE7, 8, and DMC5.

Her hair is completely different. Her gear is different. Her tank tops are different.
Literally she's not allowed to have a tanktop and jeans?

Pretty good but ngl I actually thought she was Alice (Milla Jovovich) for a second.

She's just about what I pictured, actually. Essentially reboot Lara with a blend of Milla Jovovich from the RE films. They're going for realism, not stylised.

Her classic outfit is an example of that. It looks silly and doesn't translate well. The default outfit is way more fitting and practical at the expense of being "generic", which is fine. If you don't like it, there'll be alternate outfits.

Exactly, the classic outfit looks really bad and out-of-place with the more realistic character models.

She look too much like modern Lara Croft. Its gonna be hard to tell the difference between Jill/Lara cosplayers from here on if there isn’t a STARS badge

On top of that it's likely her outfit will be adjusted as the game progresses. After all there was the moment where she
gets wounded by nemesis.

There has been some rather bizarre hair debate, at least a few pages ago. Let me solve it right now:

The comb-over is from the old design. Stop complaining that they ruined her hair.

That said, do I remember corectly that RE3 had boob jiggling outside of the CG cutscenes? (Those 100% have em and it´s really bad.) REmake 1 for sure has "breast physics". I wonder how long it will take till chads notice any of that and start another not my Tifa riot over a more sensible direction. Gamers...
We are also destined to get another is this the right panty color discussion, due to the classic skin, aren´t we? Even the REmake artbook discusses what color was chosen and why due to its RE3 costume. It´s black, I think. Oh, Capcom.

For the record: Pre-teen me somewhat disliked her Lara Croft rip-off RE3 re-design even back then as this was my first RE launch I followed and she was my favorite RE character even back then. It´s the most generic mid-90s to early 00s female design ever, outside of the crippling sexism, and she looks like a twig in the renders. The side by side comparison with 2020 is night and day. Even the RE5 catsuit, I don´t hate it, is better.

Just reading this and other posts like it is mind boggling to me. Like, I look at the classic costume on new Jill and it's so clearly LEAGUES better than the drab outfit they put her in for the redesign. I'll 100% take a design that stands out and looks good over something being generic just for the sake of practicality any day of the week.

I guess it's just different mindsets. I don't care personally about characters having to look super flashy and hot and stand out all over.

Yeah, I mean I definitely get people having their own preferences and there's nothing wrong with that. I'm also the kind of person whose favorite design for Dante is still his DMC3 look.

I just wish people were less demeaning over it. People saying Jill finally looks like a 'normal person' is weird to me, because there's nothing unreal about her original design. If anything you could give her some leggings and a different top and she'd be set.

The reason this looks odd on her is because the entire outfit is baggy. Compare with the old render pictured above of how it's supposed to fit. Kind of surprised they missed the mark a bit here.

I mean it's not unreal to wear that, but it kind of is in that situation, when dealing with zombies going to grab and bite you, and explosions and fire.

It really does. I’m glad it’s an option, but it looks super out of place in the RE Engine. Felt the same about Claire and Leon’s classic costumes in RE2Remake as well
Leon's classic was okay. Claire's was only wrong because she doesn't wear the black t-shirt under or have gloves.

She looks like a cross between Naomi Scott, Mila Jovovvovovoich and maybe little bit of Natalie Portman sprinkled in.

Yeah, I get that, it's just I don't really care about realism or practicality honestly. It's not what I want from my character designs. It's why I always enjoyed the snazzier and unrealistic bonus costumes in the RE games. Playing RE6 and having Chris run around in a kimono was awesome lol.

I'm mostly just disappointed that they didn't tweak her design to make it more modern like they did with Claire. It feels like they just gave Jill a completely new design. At the end of the day the classic costume is an option and I'm happy with that.

I just don't mind, I will note that it no longer seems to be based on an actual person who was the basic for Jill in the previous iterations but it's like Solid Snake. The first time you see young Snake in MGS4 it looks a bit strange but you get used to it. It only looked strange because with new hardware comes new capabilities and that means the character changes somewhat.

I am just surprised to hear this has apparently become some big thing. Sometimes, I really do think people critique things a little too much in general with gaming without enough praise being given where it is due.
