Let's make this short and very simple.

Fullmetal Alchemist '03 adapted the first half manga and then veered off to do its own thing.

Brotherhood is a faithful adaptation all the way through.

The "Brotherhood treatment" would mean a follow-up anime that is more in line with the original manga.

I can think of two major contenders:

1. Naruto Shippuden

Part 1 is fine. Shippuden got beat up in transition to its animated form. Filler everywhere, worse soundtrack (although not bad by any means), slow pacing, integration of filler to canon material... just a mess overall. If they did a 1:1 recreation of the manga I doubt it would get as much flak as it does.

2. Rurouni Kenshin

The only good adaptation in the original series was the Shishio arc. To nobody's surprise, this is the most fondly remembered arc. The first arc was heavily altered in several ways, and the third was never adapted. The manga is superior in almost every way. We could also use a more grounded anime these days.

What do you think?

Literally pretty much any long running series. Brotherhood could've slowed the pace down for those first ten episodes or so and still be one of the best paced anime ever. Brotherhood is amazing though not just for its pace, but for its consistent animation, excellent writing, and generally high production value. You kinda need all of that to be as good as Brotherhood, and shit like Naruto is just too terrible to ever hit the highs of Brotherhood.

I'd go a step further and make Naruto/Bleach semi-reboots that try to fix the inherent crippling flaws of the source materials, but Japan seems to hate doing that sort of thing.

Soul Eater

If you're going for a long-running series that actually finished or mostly finished, but needs a re-edit to cut down the episode count, you're thinking of a Kai treatment.

Soul Eater. Manga already finished and yet Bones prefers to focus in MHA instead of giving Soul Eater the proper animated ending it deserves.

Even though this isn't the answer OP is looking for, Eyeshield-21 needs an anime with an actual budget. Yusuke Murata is a big name now and he could it off the ground.

The world needs to experience the greatness that is Yoichi Hiruma.

Definitely Claymore. Original anime started strong with good art design and all but ended with a really bad original anime ending. Now the manga is finished and they can do a 1 to 1 adaptation.

Gantz probably as well.

Bleach could do with the Brotherhood treatment. Condensing everything to 65 episodes would improve it so much.

Soul Eater does not deserve anything more than it's gotten. It's already gotten about as good a treatment as it deserves.

Rurouni Kenshin on the other hand, is a prime candidate.

I don't read manga, so I couldn't tell you. Although I WILL tell you that there is some anime that stopped while the manga was still going.

So I guess my default answer would be BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad.

Also I think this in particular is needs more of a 'Dragon Ball Kai" Treatment more than "Brotherhood"

Souten no Ken

The original anime sucked and was cancelled early. The new anime is a new take on the series so it has skipped a good chunk of the manga and changed stuff that appeared in the manga including the ending. It's doing its own thing... And that's fine given it was promoted as such. That said, one day in the future I would love a new redo of the series doing everything faithfully. And I want a Hokuto remake of the entire series all hand drawn and nice looking.

Take it slow, do one episode or two a year. Start from the beginning and do the Golden Age proper, and just run it through to the end. Wash the taste of the above away.

Love Hina is the first one that comes to mind. The manga is great, but the anime is really awful.

I've got the feeling this is going to be demanded with Game of Thrones, but that's not an anime.

Eyeshield 21 by far. The original anime stops before the best game in the series and doesn't even get to the Christmas Bowl

Ranma½ - an entire series with the quality of the OVA's and something that followed the manga more faithfully (or at all) would be amazing.

I think studios should probably avoid Rurouni Kenshin like the plague after the whole "the writer was literally convicted of possessing child pornography" thing.

But I also think a lot of these franchises would probably end up more with the Sailor Moon Crystal treatment than the Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood treatment.

An actually well made Berserk anime with a serious budget and a talented passionate staff that covered from the beginning to the current part without skipping parts would be awesome.

D.Gray-Man --- too bad they decided to make a budget continuation instead, complete with an artstyle makeover.

Eyeshield 21 --- good lord the anime is a disgrace. They need to get the studio that did One Punch Man to redo this.

A well made Berserk series would be fantastic to see, but I'd be surprised if we see anything like that for some time if ever.

After all the stuff with Kenshin's author that came up, I don't really want to see anything more. I don't think it really needs it anyway. The original anime is still fantastic. The only thing was that the final arc was never adapted.

Give Naruto the Kai treatment. While YYH's anime is the goat, I would definitely be down for it to be given the Brotherhood treatment to restore the lost Ghost Detective stuff from the early parts of the series and restore the manga's different take on the final arc (along with the different ending).

Let's maybe leave Kenshin alone forever, lets we give any more money and stuff to Watsuki.

My vote goes to Magi, though the final arc is a mess. They don't even need to reboot the series, just give us one more 26+ episode season.

Soul Eater. Manga already finished and yet Bones prefers to focus in MHA instead of giving Soul Eater the proper animated ending it deserves.
The manga ending isn't great either. I'd argue it's just as rushed as unfulfilling as the anime ending.

This is a perfect answer. The Eyeshield anime was an absolute let down and waste of one of my favorite Mangas. I do think a competent set of directors would help too. A limited budget wasn't the only issue that anime had.

I would wait until the manga is finished first.

There are 40 volumes with of material and if you got 3 half hour episodes per volume that's 120 episodes or nearly 5 seasons of 25 episodes. I'd say go for it as that would be at least 5 years and most likely longer than that unless they were making it at break neck pace.

Eyeshield 21 should absolutely get the full HunterXHunter treatment. It's a travesty that it never got the adaptation that it deserves.

Pandora Hearts desperately needs one. The manga was a million times better than the anime.

Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle and xxxHolic also need a remake. In general the entire Clampverse needs a redo.

Fruits Basket

The anime was so popular, I never understood why it never got a sequel

Although not a manga or anime, I'd like to see A Song of Ice and Fire get the Brotherhood treatment (the books would have to finish of course though. So in like 30 years)

And then in 5 years when we have 15-20 more chapters than we do right now? What then?
