Topic stolen from a discussion between two history podcast hosts, Dan Carlin and Daniele Bolleli.
But on topic, any let's say any former US president is eligible. Or even another term for the current if you think that's what you'd like. And whomever you bring back will be brought up to speed on current events and political climate as if they'd been plugged in for the last few years.
I think this is a good topic, as whomever you pick will inform your political beliefs and what you think are problems. So let's start with their answers.
I think for me--and to be clear, I'm not nearly as knowledgeable regarding presidents--I agree more with Daniele, but I'd choose someone different: Jimmy Carter. I feel that, though he was impeded a lot during his presidency, his general policy position is progressive, and I also liked some of the other things that he tried, like using a bipartisan committee to recommend Supreme Court Justice candidates, which he would them choose based on merit. It's just a shame that he was succeeded by someone who have no shit about that and didn't continue that practice.

Eisenhower
Dan believes the American empire is ephemeral and that we should have someone who is looking to pull back some of our global operations. In his view, Eisenhower is good because he has the unique quality of growing up in the pre-WW2, Norman Rockwell America but also loving on the post-WW2 era, and as such, he knows what type of America to bring us back to. His being a former general also helps him to get this agenda past military toes without seeming weak.

Teddy Roosevelt
Downside is that Teddy loves war, but the upside is that he pushed really hard for environmental and anti-corruption policies. Dan also points out that, if we look at an older Teddy, his outlook on war might be different, too, since he lost his sons in WW1.
