5 and 4 are trash. 343 is bad at making video games.

5, and I thought after 4 it could only get better. Instead I got a Call of Halo without anything interesting in it for me (on top of the marketing fail). I couldn't wait for the H1-3 releases at that time, but 4 was boring and 5 made me not care for the series anymore :/

I would like to see someone reconcile picking 5 over 4. The Prometheans in 4 are utterly awful to fight. 4's final boss fight is a QTE. 4 introduces angry foreign-sounding Covenant as an enemy type. I just don't get it.
4 had a more defined aesthetic, a resonating Master Chief characterization, and the campaign followed a full concept design - and was still nothing special. 5 has the worst looking art, a repetitive boss, a new generic soldier protagonist eating up time, few locales, and a plot that wholly undermines the characters’ past interactions in the franchise.

The two that I would have chosen between are both omitted from the poll. CE got overly repetitive in the second half and ODST I found just plain boring

Both Halo 4 and 5 campaigns are equally shit in my eyes. Next time around I’m not buying Halo on release day, if at all. I don’t understand how 343 was built specifically to maintain and create Halo and they’ve botched the job three times. Aside from Halo 5’s current (not launch) multiplayer, they’re batting 0.

It's Halo 5 but there are still some great aspects to it. The story is convoluted, Osiris is lame, and the warden fights suck. However, the level design is fantastic, the gameplay is great, the music and art are excellent. It also looks extremely good on the 1X.

They absolutely do: the new trilogy cost us Cortana and the ODSTs: big parts of the universe that'll will never be the same thanks to 343i. Not to mention there being no sign whatsoever of the Flood or Brutes.

343i must be stopped, and the only way to do this is for them to make a game that retcons their previous games. The series can go from there (and arguably the best move at that point is retirement).
There are no longer ODST?WTF?

I've only played 1, 2, 3, and ODST, but 2 wasn't very fun. Worst of the mainline I played, and ODST is trash.

Easily 5.

Followed by 4.

Fuck 343i for making books and comics required reading before jumping into these games.

Easily 5. I'd probably put 2 down as the second worst - outside of a few cool set-pieces it just feels dull, unpolished and disjointed - like it needed months more of development.

Halo 5 is just extremely forgettable for like 95% of the game, and even the memorable parts don't hold up the the best parts of any of the other games. Its only real saving grace is Exuberant Witness. I liked the non-combat levels too, I hope those can get seriouslyexpanded on in the future. The story as a gigantic missed opportunity though.

H4 arguably has worse core gameplay, hut almost every level is at least conceptually or visually unique or interesting in some way. The story is kind of stupid, but at least it isn't H5's. Cortana should've stayed dead.

H6 will probably be of a similar calibur to the previous 2, but it'll have the advantage of being the game to (presumably) wrap up a bunch of awful story threads instead of being the one that Created (let's say that pun was intentional, shall we?) them.

Halo's best hope going forward is to drop/end the current Forerunner and Cortana storylines as fast as possible and go back to basics somehow. Maybe focus on prequels and side-stories during the Covenant war when it made sense why we were fighting Elites and Forerunners were just mysterious ancient artifacts and not the horribly overdesigned skull face ass floating transformers we have now.

4 - It was focused on the Master Chief
5 - Most of the missions was a team I couldn't care less about

4 - The cutscenes were interesting
5 - I felt like I was watching an Avengers wannabe

4 - One final boss QTE that was crap
5 - Multiple boss battles that were repetitive and the final boss battle was everything x3 (or was it x4)

4 - Cortana is interesting
5 - wat

5. It wasnt even that it was THAT bad. It was just so mediocre.

4 I can kind of forgive as a newly built studio coming in on a huge franchise. 5 should have been them showing what they are truly capable of but somehow it was worse!

Do you value gameplay so little? I thought the campaign in 5 was just lots of fun to play through. It's not bad, wtf.
Can't say the same about 4, and Reach also wasn't the greatest.

Spartans, Spartans everywhere. Buck from ODST is one now. Yeah.

I really can't understand why they went down that road. It's boring.
343 is obsessed with making the multiplayer part of the lore so they found a way to justify Spartans fighting each other. In H4, I think it was called the "War Games" simulation or something.

Aren't Spartan 4's just replacing ODST's these days?

Plus, I'm pretty sure that Rookie and co were killed off in a book. Don't quote me on that, though. I gave up following the 343i Halo lore. lol
The spartan situation is the worst thing 343 have done in terms of lore, maybe its the Forerunners, I cant decide...probably forerunners actually. Both are baffling bad decisions.

5 is easily the worst followed by 4. That said, I still enjoyed 5, it was fun. But it was no Halo CE/2/3. Those were epic masterpieces.

5 basically felt like what Halo would have been like if EA had made it.

Really? I've only fallen asleep while playing a game sitting up with one game, and that was the Halo Reach campaign, multiple times, across multiple sessions in co-op, even when I wasn't even tired. I just couldn't believe how dull it was, especially the spaceship combat.
Oof. It hit the spot for me, top 20 if not 10 of a last gen.

Wait... do you guys really think that Halo 1 is the best campaign like the OP claims?

Because to me it's definitely the worst. Who the fuck liked all those ridiculous long repetitive sections like Library? That level was fucking torture when I played it originally, I kept waiting for it to end but it kept on going.

That level alone makes me knock down the game's rating by at least 2 points on a 10-pt scale.

5 is the only one I haven’t played but I can’t process how it can be even worse than 4. What happened?

Halo 4 and 5 definitely feels like they put some shitty fanfic writer in charge, all the lame BS about the emotional story of the Chief ended up being a wet fart in the face of fans. Extremely disappointing showing. 343 has yet to show they can make a competent Halo game after 8 years working on it, definitely time for a shakeup.

OMG
It just feels like 343 wants to kill everything passed Halo and insert anything so it could be theirs. It would be alot easier if they made their own game. They are talented.
Didn't they also killed some other team? Black team?

Black Team was killed by the Didact in the comics that take place after Halo 4... lol

Not gonna lie, I hated Halo Reach. I found it to be terribly boring for about 80% of the game. The only part I liked was the New Alexandria sections halfway thru. Those environments were beautiful.

5 was completely unenjoyable for me playing single player as I always do for Halo campaigns. Resurrection mechanics were bullshit, AI was bullshit, constant 4-man team was bullshit, just overall a feeling of dumbass bullshit. Master Chief has a team now? Please. I enjoyed all the other Halos a lot but not this one.

Reach isn’t great, worst Bungie campaign. I do enjoy Long Night of Solace though.
