Will throw out the starting round with Dr. Doom, what a character.

-Impossibly powerfully plot armor that allows all of his defeats to have been robot clones having been defeated.
-His superpower is that he's just too good at everything.
-He's so good at everything that his country thrives under dictatorship.
-He's so good at everything that the only universes that do well in Marvel have to be ruled by Dr. Doom.
-Sensitive boy because his face is ugly.

Hmmm, not sure there are that many super jerked off characters that have become popular recently.

Batman.

I feel like DC has this unspoken rule that Batman is never allowed to not be the biggest badass and smartest guy in the room in any given comic/movie/show.

No way it's not Batman.

Despite what DC likes to claim, he's absolutely beyond peak human in terms of strength/survivability/intelligence/agility/money.

  • Killing a Daemon Prince in his first combat action
  • Banishing Daemon Primarch Mortarion back to the warp, somehow carving the name of the previous supreme grand master Geronitan (a fucking long name) into the heart of said Daemon Primarch without contracting space daemon AIDS in the process
    • to put this insanity in perspective, try cursive writing with a Chainsaw while in the middle of an industrial toxic waste dump without any protection. wearing a punctured HAZMAT suit. Unless you have Plot Armor, then it's pretty sensible.
      • Another idea would be to go and listen to the audio drama "Mortarion's heart", this will resolve the issues that people have with this event.
  • Single-handedly holding off a daemon horde for two days in real space
  • Killing a Daemon Prince with a broken sword,
  • Killing one of Khorne's strongest Bloodthirsters little to no weaponry
  • Taking said Bloodthirster's axe and reforging it into a sword for his own personal use WITH HIS MIND (you know, despite it being an obvious weapon of a Daemon and automatically a corrupting influence just to hold, let alone press your bare mind against(just don't tell this to Logan Grimnar, m'kay?))
  • Slaying 6 of Slaanesh's chosen Daemonettes (when setting one's gaze upon them is enough to instantly force submission from any mortal, no matter how strong-willed)
  • Setting fire to Nurgle's garden (again, whilst somehow miraculously avoiding space daemon AIDS)
  • Walking into the City of Tzeentch and single-handedly smashing it to rubble, which, given that the City of Tzeentch comprises geometry which is literally impossible, MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE

Tommy Oliver, the Green MMPR Ranger.

And also the MMPR White Ranger
and the White Ninja Ranger
and Zeo Red
and Red Turbo
and the Black Dino Ranger
And now the newest, Lord Drakkon

He's been made into a Power Rangers god by fans and the producers.

Paul Atreides, at least when it comes to the first book.

Apparently he actually struggles some in the sequels, but in Dune he's pretty much a proto-Kvothe.

I wouldn't call it popular fiction, but Fëanor from The Silmarillion. Pretty much perfect in every way. The ultimate Elf, with his ego been his only flaw.

Okay, so it's been a very, very long time since I talked about the Silmarillion, let alone read it. However.....Feanor?! Dude was a moron who fucked up every chance we saw him. Didn't he go down, literally, in flames? Nah. It can't be him.

Unspoken? I'd argue it's pretty blatant here. I remember, during the Justice League cartoons, at times, it did feel like they had to sort of dumb and weaken everyone else down to make Batman look actually useful

Honestly? Any "human" in a superhuman universe is always the most OP character that's jerked off by the writers. Captain America going toe to toe with Iron Man? Batman with Superman? Stop that shit.

But I think I gotta go with Joker here. Batman should outmatch the Joker all the time. Should easily be a one and done villain. And yet somehow writers constantly have him giving Batman so much trouble.

Arya in the GoT TV show
She's up there. An arc that's supposed to be about how war can turn people into cold blooded killers is played up as being an awesome super cool ninja girl despite the show not even handling that well since she just fails her way to the top.

She's probably the best all-around trained killer, though

- Learned swordplay from Syrio Forel
- Vassel'd for Tywin Lannister and learned how the powerful think and fool themselves
- Rode with the Hound who taught her how to actually fight and kill in the real world
- Faceless men trained her to be an assassin

She may be a macguffin ninja but they didn't just pull her out of nowhere, she's had the best training you can ask for

Isekai has produced an entire genre of lead characters like this.
Pretty much.

"He was loser in real life, and only knew games and anime, just like you viewer! :D Then he died or walked through a portal, and went to another world where his game knowledge and basic deduction/reasoning skills makes him a genius god-being that never loses in anything. This new world is also filled with women of various ages/body types, who may or may not be his slaves, all extremely hungry for his dick and idiots that only exist to make him look better."

Like 95% of the genre is just the most bottom of the barrel trash.

The editorial voice on that wiki is bad like a thousand ways. Truly remarkable drek.

The faceless man stuff was her failing upwards.

Also Im still saying they missed the emotional core of her arc.

Sasuke has to be way up there.

As much as I like Batman... yea Batman as well.

Kirito from SAO but that's most protags in this genre anyway.

Also Sephiroth.

Definitely has gotta be Doom, Thanos, or Batman.

Really not sure where people are getting Shirou from though? The kid gets to be useful sometimes, but I think aside from his ideals being romanticized, the narrative kinda likes to dump on his abilities/sense a lot.
