She messed with the wrong one.
This made me laugh pretty hard..she most definitely did. I love that this guy is squeekier clean than Ghandi himself so we can avoid the inevitable "This THUG was arrested for shop lifting in 1998". Not sure why seeing how amazing this guy is literally giving me so much joy.

I'm just waiting for her to end up profiting out of all of this by someone starting a Go Fund Me for her.

As a dog owner, LEASH YOUR DOG. The amount of unruly dog owners with dogs that just run free like mad men is crazy. Good on this guy for filming and glad he’s sage. Accountability via video is the only protection nowadays. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Russian dash cam like things you can wear on yourself sometime in the distant future.

The moment I saw De Blasio commented on the matter I knew she was gone. No company is going to hire her in NY again.

fight or flight response ... to being recorded? she was so convinced he was going to hurt her dog, even though nothing he said indicated that and he made no effort to approach them and she had the dog in hand just fine, that even his phone camera seemed deadly to the point she felt the need to get in his face?

doubtless Karen are blessed
No not all, this is not about recording, which he was smart to do clearly. There was a question being asked in the thread essentially along the lines of "how could she possibly feel threatened". So my comment was specifically in regards to that, and the conversation that took place before the recording started, which was provided by the guy on social media, in his own words, and is thread marked here. If someone said to me "I'm going to do what I'm going to do, but you're not going to like it", I'm not sure how else to take that other than as a threat. As I said though, ultimately that doesn't justify her actions, and she has rightfully been punished for what she did. So don't read this as some kind of defense, it was just discussing around what played out in the situation.

I don't think the question is whether did she feel threatened, it's why did she go to such extremes? I mean she actually appears to be panicking in the video, to the point of hyperventilating, even though he does nothing. As folks have mentioned in this thread, so often women have this ingrained fear of black men. Obviously there are reasons that women are defensive when in this kind of situation with any man, but it's so much worse when it's black man that it leads to this kind of crazed behavior. How much of that comes from parents/friends, and how much does it come from media, TV, movies, so often portraying black men as criminals over the years. Both I suppose, but it's really sad to see how this played out on video.

Didn't want to watch the video last night before bed but just caught up, how could that stance even cross your mind, what a horrible person. I get people go straight to angry if you call them out, people can be assholes but what she did is horrific, come and basically get/kill this guy.

Seeing that clip of him, seems like a swell guy, hope he doesn't get any blow back.

I suppose she will get mega bucks in a gofund me right wing rabbit hole if she leans into it, sad as life is nowadays. Has Trump ever helped a woman?

Wow what a fucking psycho. Of course she worked for an investment bank.

The guy handled this incredibly calmy. Nobody should have to put up with that shit. Lady was straight up threatening his life by proxy.

someone literally found her campaign donations. she donated quite a bit to obama, which i guess makes her a hypocrite
My wife's mother is Purivan, and her father is Polish. I have never met them because they are racist as hell. They also voted for Obama: there are plenty out there like this. I've given up trying to understand the cognitive dissonance.

Racism is not exclusive to North America but it would be insane to even try imagining a behavior so absurd somewhere like, here in Brazil.
Brazil? I don't know about that one, chief.

Anyway, this incident right here is why I don't elect to give white people the benefit of ignorance when it comes to racism. Amy specifically knew what the consequences would be for sicking the cops on a black man. White people understand, at the most, that there are systems in place that benefit them just for being white and that they can use and weaponize those systems against people of color anytime they feel mildly inconvenienced or have their ego tested, whom they don't even consider to be people, by the way. We are forever animals, nuisances, and unwanted occupants in our own country, blessed to have what we little we have and, as a result, we have no right to tell them what to do, even if they are in the wrong. Don't give white people an out. Don't presume that they don't know how this country has always worked. Yes they do.

Time to start the "how long until the fox news interview" poll.

What a cool dude. I hope that one of the end results of this insanity is that more people think about birding, and look up to this dude as a clear lover of nature.
This is such a wholesome exchange. Just two nerds, nerding it up about birds. Such a shame his life was threatened for no reason.

I could instantly tell she was one of those proud "I voted for Obama twice!" Democrats, when she was trying to sic the police on a black man, but apologized to the police officer, and made sure to call the man "African American". Hell, even the fact that she was hyper aware of the NYPD's disproportionate use of violence against innocent black folk meant she KNEW better.

Just evil.

Just makes me sick to my stomach. To try and get someone attacked by cops instead of just leashing your dog. Thank goodness he was recording.

This has been on my mind all day.

The woman's escalating hysterical voice act really bothered me. A coworker of mine suggested maybe she really was panicking, and maybe in some way she was, but before the "somebody help me!" BS started she was very matter-of-fact about ruining this man's life. I hope this follows her for a loooong time.

Also relieved that the dog is in safe hands. She was mistreating the poor thing as soon as she got nervous.

I always find it baffling when posters ask why people record this stuff. It's IMPORTANT to, that's why. This particular situation would have turned out drastically different if this guy didn't have the foresight to hit record.

This isn't the first racist thing this woman has done. She was breaking park ordinance then tried to get the cops to come after this dude. Without this camera footage, she's still a dirtbag cashing them Wall Street checks.

Accessible video recording is one of the FEW ways to hold these people accountable for being human garbage. She doesn't feel sorry about any of this, just upset she got caught. Fuck her.

I know it's not the point of the thread, but it doesn't really go unnoticed that, yet again, all the JAQing going on here is coming from non-Americans who gee shucks just don't understand what all that racism in the US is all about because racism doesn't exist in my country. Even one from Brazil, where Black Brazilians face incredibly high levels of racial discrimination and are vastly disproportionately the victims of homicides.

But to the point of the thread, lol fuck this lady, enjoy unemployment in a house with no dog companion.

You still doing this...and still looks like victim blaming.

You say you don't want to defend her but you keep finding reasons for why she's acting why she did, rather than out of racism, it's because she's a woman and women are inherently scared of men and black men more so, or because of racial conditioning. But she sure turned on that hyperventilating and panicking act like a switch. This ain't crazed behaviour or mental health issues, this is plain old weaponised racism to present to the white power situations like the cops so she can eliminate this black man from existence. Like I don't get the point to try to guess what's going on in a racist's head.

Not completely unexpected, but glad to see it happen quickly and decisively. Thought there might be some "review period" nonsense.

I was telling my friends that to not be surprised to find out that she might be a life long Democrat.
Yep!

And somewhat related but I saw this tweet while observing Black Twitter go to work on this story:

And it struck a note with me. Amy Cooper is a white Democrat, and as such probably doesn't consider herself to be racist. But that speaks to the prevalence of labels and creating in-groups and out-groups, and one of the downsides to that is this thinking discourages introspection -- i.e. if you don't identify as a Racist you don't ever need to reflect on your behavior and attitudes. Obviously not...because introspection is only for The Racists.

Amy might not be a racist (I think she is). She's a Democrat, she voted for AND donated to Obama! I'm pretty sure she's got Pod Save America merch. but what's more important here is that she did not hesitate to leverage her power as a white woman making an accusation against a Black man as soon as the opportunity presented itself. And it's worth pointing out that people who don't view themselves as racist nevertheless do versions of this all the time.

And it's sad because it makes you wonder how many Black people have had their lives altered or experienced trauma at the hands of white people who, while thinking they were firmly in the "Not Racist" group, nevertheless acted on racist ideas and beliefs thinking that was perfectly fine. We see this in schools; we see it hospitals. Apparently, we even see it in bird parks.

At first I was confused and thought this was a typical Karen story (given the original thread title), but watching that video, wow....

Good, get fucked. This news should teach all racist people like her a lesson & will make them think twice before calling the cops on people like us for no real reason other than their racism.

That's what I was waiting for.

Get fucked. Hope this stays as a stain for the rest of her life.
Oh, it will. This shit is on the internet forever.

The recording started when it started, but I just watched it for the first time and WOW at how casually that "I'm just going to call the cops and tell them a black man is threatening me" just came out of her mouth.

How threatening could he be when he's filming her approaching him from afar with a perfectly calm dog?

WOW

This is a big point.

The clip of Cooper sneering “I’m going to tell them there’s an African American man threatening my life” highlights this truth about race in America: White people are far more aware of the structure of the thing than they care to admit.
