Yeah, it's Toro, but they're not really used at all outside of Japan.

Other than the fact the franchise has been dead for like a decade, the Pipo Monkey is probably the best 1st party character that they have who is popular worldwide, and easily marketable.

I asked the same question when I was working at PlayStation, there aren't any mascots outside of Japan. PlayStation Japan has Toro Inoue.

Sony's last stab at an actual iconic mascot would have been Sackboy. But they didn't run with that well at all. A middling kart game, a trilogy of iterations. Could have been so much more. Everything now seems to be angled towards big experience games where the character is part of the background.

It's probably currently Kratos, but their mascot generally changes based on their current major release. Ellie from The Last of Us will probably be the PlayStation mascot once TLoUP2 releases.

They don't have one. They prioritize showing off multiple of their most iconic characters in ads rather than have one character be the umbrella mascot, if that makes sense.

Doesn't PlayStation Japan have the black and white cats as their mascot though? Is that still a thing?

edit: imo the closest thing they have to a mascot outside of Japan are their buttons. Triangle Square Circle X/Cross. You see those four shapes together, you know it's PlayStation.

It would be Spider-man, note the PS3 font, if the meddling MCU didn´t happen. I prefer Kuro on the right but the cats are it, only in Japan of course:

Why didn´t they just buy Crash in the 90s? It´s like owning Poochie!

Anyone who still has their PS3 hooked up should buy the Chinese version of Toro! Let's Party with the Eng subs included. The translation quality is woeful, but it's a fun game otherwise. Toro and Kuro are charm personified.

You don't need a mascot if your brand is synonymous with gaming. Playstation is the mascot itself alright.

This has been on my mind lately... They don't really have any character that can be elevated to Iconic status. I think that is the main reason PS All stars failed.

Why Sony can't make a recognizable character?

Clealry Kratos, Sony and ND could get rid of Nathan at any time replace him with any otehr character (and they did it with Chloe) and no one could get, neitehr Sony, nor ND nor PlayStation nor Uncharted itself. They could even drop Uncharted at some point and they will be fine.
GOW and Kratos, taht's anotehr story. Kratos is so iconic for every Playstation generation that Sony can't get rid of even if any GOW director wants to. He is the one that many identify PlayStation with. In fact ask your father, your uncle even your grandfather and grandmother whether they know Drake they will say nope while they surely know Kratos' person and his name too.
They didn't just reboot him, make im another person to get rid of him so soon.

Which Playstation generation?

Sony treats mascots the same way EA treats its mismanaged studios.

Crash.

Despite them not owning it. Closest they have. You can't have 'generic 40 year old model guy' as your mascot.
