"Don't @me" - This means you really want to come back to some notifications later hoping someone is talking to you.

"I hope this thing happens for the meltdowns" - Means you're a bit weird and get off over people you don't know arguing over dumb shit.

"Am I the only one...?"
"Okay Era, it's time we talked about..."
"Can we admit ___ was a disappointment now?"
"Hot take:"
"Literally unplayable"
"Be honest: do any of us still like ___?"

And referring to every damn member as if every last one of them's a guy. "Thank you gentlemen." "I see we are all men of taste in this topic." "Gentlemen, I present to you the GOTY." "Men, the greatest character action game of all time is almost upon us."

Other versions of that somehow don't irk me as much, like when people say "Guys, let's not jump the gun" or even "He edited his post after you quoted him." I'm not saying people need to constantly avoid using masculine pronouns, but there's something about the sentences that really seem to emphasize the maleness that always has me rolling my eyes.

Posts solely consisting of "... is trash" really get on my tits. And they never seem to get pulled up.

A lot of parents do accept that they've fucked up. The part that non-parents don't get is that you don't always know you've fucked up until after the fact, and some asshat coming in with "well if the parents had been doing what they were supposed to be doing they wouldn't have this problem!" isn't providing anything of value at that point.

But again, this isn't what was being discussed. It was people who fly in with "as a parent ..." as if by giving birth they are suddenly the purveyor of all knowledge on a subject. And then when someone dares to disagree they come out with some variant of "wait I until you have children".

There is also a basic smugness to parents that has been seen in this thread. Like only they can possibly understand how things are. I called someone out on this today in the "sleeping issues" thread when their sole response was "have children":

I see it didn't take long for this smug reply to come out, completely failing to understand what insomnia is and how it affects people.

Sarcastic drive-bys are obnoxious. This includes "Who", "Yikes", "You sound fun", etc.

People who get mad at "am I the only one?" annoy me a bit.

They always frame it like the person thinks they are some sort of unique snowflake, when in reality it's just a extension of real life interactions where the likelihood of you being the only one is much higher.

It comes off as really anti-social and wouldn't be suprised if these people were 'who?' people too.

"I mean..."
"Honestly, this."
"Eh..."
"X thread? X thread."
"Aaaand we're done here."
"Pre-order cancelled."
[in response to minor marital disagreements/relationship issues] "Lawyer up and hit the gym."
"I could care less."

Just fuck off.

Here's a thing I've noticed a lot more on the Gaming side:

Threads that seem to be made with the purposes of showing how a slightly controversial game (usually a console exclusive) is having 'success' and, more subtly, to show why those who don't like that game should shut up. They almost always seem to be based on a single award/review/statistic that, on further scrutiny, doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things. Discussion will almost always boil down to a hostile back-and-forth focusing on the "ERA Bubble" because, to many, sales still equal objective quality.

This isn't thread whining as these threads have every right to exist (and the ignore function makes thread whining even more pointless than usual), but it is a bit of a pet peeve.

Thinking certain reasonable (or unreasonable) criticisms are published and circulated only by Era users.

"Only people on Era think this!"

No, not usually.

"Well that's just your opinion." No shit it's my opinion, I wrote it didnt I. I'm sure what someone thinks they are proving when they respond with that.

Threads where the sole purpose is to list numbers or titles, like "How old is your GMail account?".

What kind of discussion or insight can you have aside from oh wow, this poster has a 4 year old gmail account and that other one has a 7 year old gmail account!
Incredible.

"Let's agree to disagree (because I know I lost the argument but can't admit it)"

Though this is mostly true, some arguments just become so inane and unproductive that this particular expression can work as an out for both parties. As in 'let's just move on from this silly conversation'. But yeah most times it's what you said.

/Thread

I fucking hate "/thread"

Even worse when someone "/threads" their own post.

"I recognize the user name" or something along those lines to discredit or put down a poster if they disagree with what's they are saying. You don't recognize shit, you're just being an asshole.

There's a moderator here who always seems to interject themselves into threads, and tries to be the center of attention. It's like that friend who, okay you're cool, but you don't need to make everything about you in a thread that really has nothing to do with you... It reeks of insecurity and the need for acceptance. Even in some of the more serious threads, I've seen some attention-seeking "levity" that is just head scratching. Like dude, just post. We get you're a mod, and "prominent" member, but just be cool.

When people answer a question with something that is not topic. Example: "Who has the better burgers, Mc Donald's or Wendy's?" and then people answer "Burger King".
When people post an image of a game, album, cover, food, etc and do not label what it actually is.

People that start topic threads with some long ass video and zero explanation for why anyone should waste a moment of time watching it. Posters need to use their words and communications skills if they're going to start a new thread.

Posting pictures in gaming side threads that ask people something along the lines of, "Post A Picture Of Your Favorite _______ Game Moment," and not saying which game it's from.

I get annoyed by posts, in the gaming forums, that only refer to multiplatform games as belonging to particular platform or multiplatform announcements as some sort of exclusive.

I also think the ignore feature is overused. It's good to use when someone is being abusive, but it seems like a lot of people use it just because someone posted an opinion they disagree with. I think those disagreeable moments are what makes this format of discussion engaging, but many seem to want to avoid it all together.

Oh absolutely. Most of the time the intent of the one writing is easy to discern as well, depending on how the discussion up to that point went.

"Naughty Gods"

Stop putting developers on a fucking untouchable pedestal.

The reaction gifs with Naughty Dog/God of War (sometimes Metal Gear) characters or, worse, video game CEOs edited in really bug me. They're rarely creative nor are they ever that funny so, to me, they just feel like corporate worship more than anything.

Maybe I'm just a bit salty because I'm nowhere near as enthused with TLoU: Part 2 as most people seem to be lol

Nitpicking grammar and spelling mistakes. Unless it changes the understanding of the text, its really not that imperative that it has to be pointed out. Its a cheap ploy to make someone look dumb yet not respond do what was actually said.

On the other side, people posturing and talking 'hood' when they never talk/type like that outside of when they want to sound tough. That isn't just on Era, its on Twitter and Tumblr too. Acting like they are gonna show up at the other person's house and fight them over a dumb internet argument.

Also, emojis are fine when used in moderation, we use them to convey the finer emotions hard to show through text. The presence of an emoji doesn't make a text's validity void.

There is also a basic smugness to parents that has been seen in this thread. Like only they can possibly understand how things are.

Being a parent does not automatically make anyone an expert on parenting, but until you've actually created a child and felt the intense, never-ending pressure of being responsible for every aspect of their entire existence (especially for the first several years), all day every day, then I'm sorry, you really don't understand how things are.

Believe it or not some things do require some experience before they can be understood. That doesn't mean people who are not parents can never make judgment calls about parenting; some parenting is obviously good or bad and doesn't require any special insight to understand. However, a lot of the day-to-day aspects of raising a child simply require you to have been there and done that before you can actually understand that.

I'm sorry if that bothers you, but that's the reality of the situation whether you like it or not.

They're really uncreative. I mean, sure your graphics and animation technology is impressive but you're just putting your dead eyed characters into existing classic scenes. Whatever lofty thoughts they have about themselves SIE studios really need to dial back the smugness. Or at least stop appropriating famous scenes as if they're the originators.

Complaining about trivial rich person problems, judgementalness, kneejerk drive-by condemnation of someone without evidence, bandwagon hating. Y'know, nothing too common.

Oh here? Probably thread titles that state an obvious thing asking if it only happens to them. Or in pew die pie threads denying antisemitism. Or LTTP threads when the games still new ish and the OT is active
