Why do most animals (fictional or real) seem to be defaulted as male?

Because English lacks a conventional gender-neutral definite pronoun, most speakers default to male.

I gave an english example because english is the language for most of the forum
I am fluent in portuguese and it has a bazilion of examples since it is a very gendered language

Like I said in a previous post in the same thread, in portuguese you use change to male pronoums for a group of infinite women that have just one man.

Don't know about english but the idea of gender in portuguese is always a tricky discussion because the concept of gender goes beyond biology.

Yeah, I listened to Gamexplain's new Pokémon discussion, and almost every single one was a male.
Even Milcery, which is exclusively female.
I was so annoyed.

Like people say "good boi" when referring to dogs, even when talking about female dogs.
And this applies to stuff like Pokémon, people default to male pronouns on almost everything. Some people even refer to female only lines with male pronouns if they're not as human-like.
