Why does there appear to be a disdain for superheroes on this forum?

On ERA, I've seen quite a bit of disdain for the superhero genre, with people saying things like their costumes look stupid, they aren't real media and thus too childish or they have outstayed their welcome. I don't quite understand the rationale for this as the same thing could be said for video games, anime or other fantasy/scienc fiction media. So what's with the dislike for the superhero genre?

Hear that Marvel-era and Arrowverse-era, you’ve been slacking. We need Thanos gifs, Roy gifs, Luthor gifs. Superheroes are getting a bad rep now.

Really? Havn’t seen that tbh. I might have just missed it but I see a lot of hype for MCU stuff, even the Netflix shit offspins.
Superhero stuff ARE easy targets for mockery though, for obvious reasons.

There isn’t. Every other thread here is either Marvel, DC or Star Wars related.
It just seems like we don’t like them because the people who hate them have to go into every thread to shit on them. There’s also the DC vs. Marvel people. They get the attention they want and eventually some people think we all agree with him/her. We don’t.

There's a huge contingent of passionate marvel fans on this forum which inevitably led to pushback from people who don't care about Marvel because this is how people fundementally tend to operate

Because they've dominated film for a solid decade and the Marvel movies are generally pretty shitty

I don't hate them, but I just don't care for the movies and they seem to be all the rage these days. Judging by this forum lmao

Were you a part of any of DCU movie threads? People can find flaws but ultimately love the hell out of them.

Have you seen how many people on this forum think Endgame was a great movie? If anything peeps here are too willing to give superhero films a pass even when they have big faults (thankfully that mostly doesn't extend to unmitigated drek like BvS). And I'm a huge comic fan myself.

I think some people, myself included, are getting a little tired of the focus Hollywood has on superheroes right now but I don't think I've seen the particular complains in the op.

Superhero media is in general, and by general i mean that which every super hero thread on Era is about, very very limited in scope, in what kinds of stories they tell, what kinds of characters they have, and in basically every way that you can distinguish a movie from another. Which is not true of videogames anime of sci fi.

I have no disdain. Though the only ones that I really liked were Raimi's Spider-man and Joker 2019. Most of MCU and DC universe stuff are mediocre to good range imo.

It wasn't great. It was the most perfect send off to a decade of bliss I've ever experienced. Phenomenal all around.

"I enjoy Superhero movie"

"Fucking rube. Ever heard of Kubrick?"

.
I'd love to see these threads because at most certain films get criticized but I rarely see someone saying, "lol, go watch Kubrick." Supe films aren't presecuted as much as Disney/Marvel tried to make them out to be during the Scorsese fiasco.

How fragile must you be for a pronounced minority of vocal critics of the genre to come across to you as a forum-wide "general disdain"?

As a person who is not into superhero movies so I just mostly filter the threads out of my brain ... I don't see how this is true. There's multiple superhero-media threads every day. For media in the Off Topic forum, it generally seems like Star Wars and then comic super heroes are the most popular genre of entertainment (I was thinking something like anime too, but I think a lot of anime is also superhero stuff)

Cant say I’ve noticed it. I see a lot of people dropping superhero comic panels or knowledge in threads. As someone with limited knowledge in comics it’s something I like about this side of the forum.
