Why is Ronda Rousey, a Sandy Hook truther, headlining the main event at WrestleMania?

This is really saddening to me, as I read today about a father of one of the victims of that tragedy choosing to end his own life. How is it that a parent who not only dealt with the loss of their child due to the actions of a cold blooded killer, but then also had to also deal with numerous people harassing and torturing he and other parents about the legitimacy of their heartache and suffering. A father who was pushed to the point of suicide no thanks in part to high profile people who pushed this conspiracy theory to the spotlight, people just like Ronda Rousey in 2013. How can she go on in her life to face no reprocussions, land million dollar deals and headline one of the biggest pay per view events of the year?

Did Ronda Rousey ever address this tweet, publicly, after she deleted it sometime later? Did she ever publicly apologize to the parents, family and loved ones of the victims she tried to de-legitimize?

How is it that Laura Ingraham faced a decent amount of backlash for her attempts to shit on Parkland survivor, David Hogg, yet Ronda Rousey has gone on to be more successful than ever?

Because like a lot of things, money is the main motivation and not a lot of people know about Rousey being a dipshit to cause a stir

Most of the right, like Vince, think this an acceptable view. That’s why. I wouldn’t be surprised if he believed it too.

Ronda's a heat magnet but she isn't even close to the worst person in the world like people act like, that's just wrestling fans defining everything as moral inferiority/superiority and because she's an easy target. There's way worse people who have main evented WM, e.g. Brock "I don't like gay people" Lesnar literally last year.

It's much easier to understand Ronda if you basically view her as a random Redditor who just says frequently stupid shit without thinking about it (e.g. most Redditors). She gets dragged for being a TERF when she didn't actually say anything that rose to that level, she just said she didn't think she should have to fight a trans-woman in UFC because of the physical differences in birth gender. It's not like she refused to use Fallon Fox's preferred gender pronoun or refused to allow Fox to define her gender however she chose, she argued Fox may still have physical advantages in the cage. Like it's dumb and she doesn't know what she's talking about but it doesn't make her a supervillain.

The Sandy Hook thing is overblown too because all she really did was say some really dumb conspiracy video brought up some interesting points. Even Dana was quoted at the time as saying "She didn't come out and say that the thing was a fucking hoax and all this shit. She tweeted something and said, 'Look at this story.' Like, that video had 20m views. It was also stupid as fuck and insipid but stupid conspiracy theories have always attracted a certain amount of attention from the kind of weirdo who deep dives the internet, it's just that Sandy Hook conspiracies are typically bad-faith right wing "mah guns" shit. Except Ronda endorsed Bernie Sanders for president, and it's highly unlikely her interest in that conspiracy theory is something other than she just likes conspiracy theories. Being stupid isn't the same thing as being a hatemonger.

I've read about people saying how smart she is. That she could be an actress in Hollywood, because she's so talented and so well-liked.

It's like folks just talk crazy shit on the internet all the time, or something.

Hard to say, but maybe WWE just wants to give their core audience the candy they crave. And that candy appears to be shithead has-beens.

Because very few people give a flying fuck what Rousey thinks about Sandy Hook. They pay money to watch her kick ass or get her ass kicked, depending on the night.

People think she could be an actress? I've seen planks of wood that were more emotive.

The world isn't black and white, sorry. If you don't know the difference between Brock saying "I don't like gays. Write that down in your little notebook. I don't like gays" and Ronda saying she thinks there's a physical difference between trans women and people born as women, I don't know what to tell you.

Here's the guy who main evented the WrestleMania before that:

Pro Tip: Going "what about so and so" when talking about someone doing something shitty is usually a pretty tired and ineffectual defense.

Her trying to claim it is patriotic is the icing on that cake of stupidity. Can't believe she is in Mortal Kombat 11.

Why is her employer starting up a racist, Yankee doodle football league?

Those two questions have similar answers.

Ignorance from WWE's audience on the subject. bring enough noise and attention on it and put pressure on them to make changes!

Except that isn't all that happened.

She caught flack for posting the video and then followed up valid criticism of her post with the brilliant retort of, "Doing research and asking questions is more patriotic than just believing what you're told"

She didn't just post a conspiracy video, she followed up the insane conspiracy video with her own comments, calling into question the validity of the reporting of a massacre at an elementary school.

It's professional wrestling. Being an awful person is practically a job requirement.
Yeah, seeing a lot of posts in this thread with this notion. That mentality probably worked nicely back in the 80s and 90s. Now these athletes are pushed as "Superstars" and they are more accessible and engaged with the fanbase than in any previous era in the history of professional wrestling. I have a problem with a known Sandy Hook truther being hired in and being used as a superstar for young people to look up to and believe in.

There seems to be a big sense of "that's just the way it is." Like nobody should ask for a higher standard.
